RWBY Thread III: Time To Say Goodbye

Stop: So gotta few things that need to be said real quick.
so gotta few things that need to be said real quick.
We get a lot of reports from this thread. A lot of it is just a series of people yelling at each other over arguments that have been rehashed hundreds of times since the end of the recent Volume. And I get that the last Volume - and RWBY in general, really - has some controversial moments that people will want to discuss, argue about, debate, etc.

That's fine. We're not going to stop people from doing that, because that's literally what the point of the thread is. However, there's just a point where it gets to be a bit too much, and arguments about whether or not Ironwood was morally justified in his actions in the recent Volume, or if RWBY and her team were in the right for withholding information from Ironwood out of distrust, or whatever flavor of argument of the day descend into insulting other posters, expressing a demeaning attitude towards other's opinions, and just being overall unpleasant. That tends to happen a lot in this thread. We want it to stop happening in this thread.

So! As of now the thread is in a higher state of moderation. What that means is that any future infractions will result in a weeklong boot from the thread, and repeated offenders will likely be permanently removed. So please, everyone endeavor to actually respect the other's arguments, and even if you strongly disagree with them please stay civil and mindful when it comes to responding to others.

In addition, users should refrain from talking about off-site users in the thread. Bear in mind that this does not mean that you cannot continue to post tumblr posts, for example, that add onto the discussion in the thread, with the caveat that it's related to RWBY of course. But any objections to offsite users in the thread should be handled via PM, or they'll be treated as thread violations and infracted as such.

Well a fiction thing becoming real is known as defictionalization. A real thing inserted into fiction is a product placement. :p

They accidentally showed a few seconds of something exclusive on stream, which looked kinda different than the normal art style.

Ruby from the stream:

Q&A transcript by /u/Kuchenjaeger:

Q: "Will Yang's disability, the strain of going through, be put into her character when you are voicing her?"

A: "I tried my best, and I hope I did okay. It's impossible to really put myself into her situation, but I tried my best."

Q: "How much did the inclusion of the maidens change the story?"

A: "It impacted Pyrrha to a degree, but everything that happened would have happened to her. In term of the main story: We really like it, we put something in there that Monty really wanted that we are really happy with. There is more of the world of Remnant to explore. It would be good if they had a season where they like travel around (laughing)"

Q: "How do you plan on handling the next scope? Skip from one place to the other in each episode, or stay in one for a little bit of time?"

A: "It depends on the character. Some will travel around, others will stay more in one place. There will be different kinds of journeys, some literal, some more emotional/psychological."

Q: "Would you ever consider turning RWBY into a comic to do more worldbuilding?"

A: "Absolutely. We would love something like that."

Q: "Emblems: Family thing or do they make their own?"

A: "Depends on the character."

Q: "Are there aquatic Grimm?"

A: "Watch Volume 4!"

Q: "Will the contest to put an OC into the show be a thing?"

A: "It has come up in conversations"

Q: "When did the idea of Salem come around?"

A:"She was the 9th character to be designed. After RWBY and JNPR."

Q: "Which member of Team JNPR do you think will die next"

A: Miles: "OH MY GOD! ...Jaune's innocence."

Q: "Will we see the weapons evolve?"

A: "The answer is: Please continue to watch the show. That is something we want to explore."

A preview of the animation

Looks like a TellTale game.

[Media] RWBY Volume 4 Grimm Concept Art
Other bits of information I found:
  • We got the artwork of a new Grimm, and updated designs for the Beowolf and Nevermore:
They now look much more frightening than before, they have a new "glowing insides" effect as well as a light trailing effect on their eyes, can't wait to see them animated. Also now that the Salem cat is out of the bag, some of the Grimms appear bearing Salem's eye symbol, notably on the back of the new Grimm and the forehead of the updated Nevermore.
  • They changed their animation tool, replacing the now old Poser by Maya, which is a widely more used animation tool. That's probably the reason behind the new animation quality.
  • The new character concepts were drawn by Ein Lee. (who also made the official portrait of team RWBY)
  • Trivia: Salem was planned since the beginning of the RWBY project. In fact, she was the 9th character to be designed, right after RWBY and JNPR.

From here we enter on hearsay territory, so take these information with a grain of salt:
  • The bit of video was maybe shown in its entirety after the panel, it's actually a "Red trailer 2.0" where Ruby saves a village from a Grimm attack.
  • Ruby looks older, no idea if it's because of the new animation tool, an effect of the time skip (we don't know how much time has passed), or both
  • Ruby apparently got a massive boost on her skills
  • at the end of Red 2.0, we see a pic of JN_R on Ruby' scroll: Nora has slightly longer hair, and Jaune has a stubble. TAI-YANG 2.0 CONFIRMED! :o
  • at the very end of the trailer, we see Yang looking down, then looking up and then someone giggles from offscreen, most people believe that it could be Neo, which then would confirm that she's not mute.

Link to the stream here, for those that want to watch it. The audio is down at some points, but the Q&A (which begins at the 18 minute mark) was alright.

Also the Roman and Emerald figures look awesome. :D

Wow, it looks great! Looks waaaayyy better.

Totally off topic but this page is seriously killing Firefox. Is it just me? Because this page is causing my CPU to skyrocket to 100% and apparently for this one page alone (No other tab than this one.) requires 1,111 Mb wtf.
