RWBY Thread III: Time To Say Goodbye

Stop: So gotta few things that need to be said real quick.
so gotta few things that need to be said real quick.
We get a lot of reports from this thread. A lot of it is just a series of people yelling at each other over arguments that have been rehashed hundreds of times since the end of the recent Volume. And I get that the last Volume - and RWBY in general, really - has some controversial moments that people will want to discuss, argue about, debate, etc.

That's fine. We're not going to stop people from doing that, because that's literally what the point of the thread is. However, there's just a point where it gets to be a bit too much, and arguments about whether or not Ironwood was morally justified in his actions in the recent Volume, or if RWBY and her team were in the right for withholding information from Ironwood out of distrust, or whatever flavor of argument of the day descend into insulting other posters, expressing a demeaning attitude towards other's opinions, and just being overall unpleasant. That tends to happen a lot in this thread. We want it to stop happening in this thread.

So! As of now the thread is in a higher state of moderation. What that means is that any future infractions will result in a weeklong boot from the thread, and repeated offenders will likely be permanently removed. So please, everyone endeavor to actually respect the other's arguments, and even if you strongly disagree with them please stay civil and mindful when it comes to responding to others.

In addition, users should refrain from talking about off-site users in the thread. Bear in mind that this does not mean that you cannot continue to post tumblr posts, for example, that add onto the discussion in the thread, with the caveat that it's related to RWBY of course. But any objections to offsite users in the thread should be handled via PM, or they'll be treated as thread violations and infracted as such.

RWBY V8E14: The Final Word
My Reaction below:
& its tiiiiiiiiiiiiiime!

Ominous Monstra, oh this ain't good!

Call him out Winter, yes queen!

Ironwood shut the fuck up you did what was "best" for your version of Atlas and even then it was bad.

Penny I beg you please stop being so self sacrificing, and ooh Cinder what is up and hahaha, go Blake!

Eeeey nice try Qrow and clever move by Harriet I'll give her that, and aah they admitted it!

Did he, please tell me Qrow just tried to use his Semblance to cause good luck and it worked, cos him realizing it was a matter of perspective would be great.

Watts you smug fuck!

Dang and here I thought Blake was gonna do shadow clone XD

Neo is a very rough opponent for Ruby cos she bases her style on counter attacks and Ruby's weapon is very easy to make unwieldly, also oh gosh right through the portal and oh gosh Aura break, aaaaah!

OK Harriet's agonized screaming hurt my soul.

Also what the fuck Vine way to do a redemption arc, now I feel bad! Also wow, that bomb was not nearly as impressive as expected, OR, Vine is supremely badass, what the fuck, woah.

Ruby full on luring Neo into an attack to surprise counter, clever too bad about Cinder and ooh betrayal, not surprised, but haha, Cinder that may not work out for you.

Dang I was hoping they'd choose to jump after Yang, oh well.

Ah Cinder's class hatred again XD

Oh gosh they don't know its one way, fuck!

Salem's back!!!

Weiss using Blake's weapons, aah feels.

oh gosh Winter's gonna die.

Penny's gonna die!

THEY FUCKING KILLED PENNY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Get fucked Ironwood!

Wow Cinder actually got her victory.

Also Salem sounds pissed.

Ugh, I wanted a team RWBY exclusive adventure, not exactly thrilled Jaune's coming along even if I don't dislike him anymore :/

Oooh Salem can enter a ghost mode.

Oh shit, she's burning Watts alive, fuck that's grim, like a legit horrifying way to go out.

Well Ironwood, you went down with your stupid fucking ship.

Oooh epic scene.

Atlas, more like Atlantis!

Seriously though did they seriously fucking kill Penny, what the actual fuck :(

Well those predicting Cinder victory were right but were wrong about Salem's reaction.

Nice end song.

After credits scene shows a lovely beach and magical looking tree and Crescent Rose, implying everyone got scattered.

Seriously though Penny's fucking dead, what!?

Cool. Cool cool cool cool cool. I'm gonna go take a nap for eight months. See you all then.

I hope

Penny's "I will be a part of you" is a bit more literal than most because she's in a bit of a weird spot as a living Aura person.... Because this feels like it cut her character arc a bit too short and I really hope that isn't all there was too it.

Wait, so Penny's dead, again? So what the hell was the point using the Staff of Creation then, Rooster Teeth? She better not be actually dead, because that's just wasteful.

Also, what happens to the Winter Maiden powers, then? Because if Penny's actually dead, where are they going to go?

I'm betting that Penny's not actually dead dead yet: Seeing as she basically became pure Soul as a result of the Staff, she might be in the same sort of position as Hellsing's Schrödinger - "I think, therefore I am", or in other words, she's still alive because she believes she's still alive.

I'm inclined to agree.
Considering what they went through I'm pretty sure Penny's uniqueness is going to have side effects either with Winter or in some other way.

Especially since RWBY sacrificed Atlas to give Penny that aural form and now it's seemingly for nothing.

I liked the episode overalll but:

So they brought Penny back in one volume to just fucking kill her off again in the next one? WTF!? And please don't fucking @ me about 'sHe MaDe a cHoIcE' it was an assisted suicide, there's nothing noble or heroic about that shit. Especially in a multivolume story arc about deconstructing of 'noble self-sacrifice'. When that mindset has repeatedly been shown to be deeply unhealthy and nothing to emulate.

And small potatoes in comparison but why the ever-loving fuck did Jaune coming along for this ride? I've wanted a RWBY volume that's actually centered around the people whose name's in the fucking title for years and thought we were finally gonna get and nope! Please for the love of God don't make the next volume all about Jaune's man pain about killing Penny instead of giving us the in-depth exploration of our four heroines.

I think I might be angrier than I realized about all this, will come later to say nice things about the episode.

Like let's be logical about this. RT has demonstrated themselves to be very solid story tellers particularly this volume.

Do you really think they'd go through the trouble to Save Penny like that just to have her killed off two episodes later, by Jaune, with only Weiss to bear witness? Maybe she's dead but I'm reasonably certain they're not done with her story wise.

Edit: This post sums up some of my thoughts on the issue

No, Penny!:( Also, Blake and Jaune broke their weapons. Jaune will have to break the news to everyone about Penny. Hopefully they kill Neo before leaving whereever they are. I wonder where the Birds and the Ace-Ops will fly to now. And Winter will have to break the news to the Vacuo side good guys. And since CRWBY like this on-the-nose naming, I think Summer is alive and is the Summer Maiden, although her condition is highly suspect.

That's not going to stop all the reviewers who want to find shit.

Cinder's not getting a redemption arc any time soon and people who thought otherwise were clearly not paying attention to her actions in Volumes 2 & 3.

Well
Now I wonder was the tree that Sun saw when he was young in Vacou in the book. Was that what where seeing now? If so it may periodically travel dimension. So their is that possible way out.

Yeah this episode proved that whatever her backstory, whatever moments of emotion she has. Cinder is the mother of all vindictive bastards.
