RWBY Thread III: Time To Say Goodbye

Stop: So gotta few things that need to be said real quick.
so gotta few things that need to be said real quick.
We get a lot of reports from this thread. A lot of it is just a series of people yelling at each other over arguments that have been rehashed hundreds of times since the end of the recent Volume. And I get that the last Volume - and RWBY in general, really - has some controversial moments that people will want to discuss, argue about, debate, etc.

That's fine. We're not going to stop people from doing that, because that's literally what the point of the thread is. However, there's just a point where it gets to be a bit too much, and arguments about whether or not Ironwood was morally justified in his actions in the recent Volume, or if RWBY and her team were in the right for withholding information from Ironwood out of distrust, or whatever flavor of argument of the day descend into insulting other posters, expressing a demeaning attitude towards other's opinions, and just being overall unpleasant. That tends to happen a lot in this thread. We want it to stop happening in this thread.

So! As of now the thread is in a higher state of moderation. What that means is that any future infractions will result in a weeklong boot from the thread, and repeated offenders will likely be permanently removed. So please, everyone endeavor to actually respect the other's arguments, and even if you strongly disagree with them please stay civil and mindful when it comes to responding to others.

In addition, users should refrain from talking about off-site users in the thread. Bear in mind that this does not mean that you cannot continue to post tumblr posts, for example, that add onto the discussion in the thread, with the caveat that it's related to RWBY of course. But any objections to offsite users in the thread should be handled via PM, or they'll be treated as thread violations and infracted as such.

That was probably cRWBY's intention but when you think about it, trenches aren't good defensive structures against Grimm (compared to walls or a moat/big ditch between you and them). Because their purpose is to hide a fighter from gunfire etc and the Grimm are overwhelmingly melee combatants. It's not actually helping the Atlas soldiers very much.

The fact that they're using such incorrect tactics makes sense because Atlas has never had to deal with being on the defensive against Grimm because of the shields+flight. Whenever the army/Specialists have fought Grimm its been out in the field or on somebody else's turf that they can ultimately retreat from (since they would have been brought there via the air fleet). But now with the fleet getting torn to shreads and Grimm literally on their doorstep they're flailing around and falling back on ancient techniques/protocols because that's all they have.
I mean are the trenches a bad idea? Flying Grimm are a Thing and are swarming all over the place. It's probably not a bad thing to have a place where the troops can be sheltered from Manticore fireballs, Nevermore fatal feathers, Lancer stingers and Teryxes or other fliers just swooping in and picking them up.

Oh Rwby idea for Whitley 's 1st summons.
What if the thing he defeated was his fear of Jacque therefor he summons a glyph Jacque with all the powers a scared young boy grants a terrible father in his mind

No, because that would mean that something with Jacques' face will look cool and help the fight, and I utterly refuse of such a thing to happen.

But at the same time it kind of makes them sitting ducks for the ground-based Grimm. Becuase all the trench does is make it harder for them back up/maintain distance since they'd need to clamber in and out of it. And they'd need to keep the distance becuase only Flynt, Neon have a hope in hell of surviving in melee with Grimm.

The trenches also provide shelter from ranged Grimm. At the very least manticores and nevermores have pretty dangerous ranged attacks, so theoretically a trench gives a soldier shelter. Also, if a Manta squad does a bombing run, you don't want to be in the open.

-Looks at how the air battle seems to be going as per what May saw-
Don't think they need to worry about friendly fire from Manta squads any time soon.

Yeah, even if the thing is 100% done, it still needs to not only be uploaded but also ensure that it's actually on the servers. Given how Texas is currently undergoing a bad weather storm where the power grid could shutter at any time, it's better not to risk any corruption or mishap with the upload. Even if there's a sort of "buffer" in place where the file's already up on the server and waiting to be uploaded on its designated time, all it takes is one bad storm to knock that down.

That said, I feel like this might factor into any decisions they could make for future releases, like how the COVID thing had them take a longer hiatus to accommodate for it.

Yeah especially since even major motion pictures sometimes have last minute tweaks made to them before release. Or even after release.
