RWBY Thread III: Time To Say Goodbye

Stop: So gotta few things that need to be said real quick.
so gotta few things that need to be said real quick.
We get a lot of reports from this thread. A lot of it is just a series of people yelling at each other over arguments that have been rehashed hundreds of times since the end of the recent Volume. And I get that the last Volume - and RWBY in general, really - has some controversial moments that people will want to discuss, argue about, debate, etc.

That's fine. We're not going to stop people from doing that, because that's literally what the point of the thread is. However, there's just a point where it gets to be a bit too much, and arguments about whether or not Ironwood was morally justified in his actions in the recent Volume, or if RWBY and her team were in the right for withholding information from Ironwood out of distrust, or whatever flavor of argument of the day descend into insulting other posters, expressing a demeaning attitude towards other's opinions, and just being overall unpleasant. That tends to happen a lot in this thread. We want it to stop happening in this thread.

So! As of now the thread is in a higher state of moderation. What that means is that any future infractions will result in a weeklong boot from the thread, and repeated offenders will likely be permanently removed. So please, everyone endeavor to actually respect the other's arguments, and even if you strongly disagree with them please stay civil and mindful when it comes to responding to others.

In addition, users should refrain from talking about off-site users in the thread. Bear in mind that this does not mean that you cannot continue to post tumblr posts, for example, that add onto the discussion in the thread, with the caveat that it's related to RWBY of course. But any objections to offsite users in the thread should be handled via PM, or they'll be treated as thread violations and infracted as such.

I feel like this is splitting hairs, tbh. If you invade a village and that causes people to die, either directly or indirectly through starvation/inviting grimm attacks, then you killed those people. She's a bandit leader. Bandits raid and pillage, that's what they do. You don't need to justify her actions in order to like her as a character. I like that she's evil, personally.

It's been a while, but doesn't Qrow even raise that point? And irrc all she really has to say in response to that is that they deserved to die for being weak.

Another Reaction just starting with the trailers from a couple weeks ago:

Nice!, thanks for sharing, hope it goes well!
Wonder if that would be symbolic or representative of anything for Tai if that's the case.
Compartmentalization, you don't need to deal with problems, you can just squish them into a box and they go away forever! :D

Not really, or more, not in the way that was being discussed here.

What I mean is, when people talked about Raven destroying villages, it was a lot like how in V2 people were giving her "Worst mom" awards, despite the fact they had zero idea why she was absent and that there's 100% worse mothers or parents out there than one who is just not present.

IE, the framing and discussion exaggerated the negatives to an absurd degree, in this case, it was often treated less like villages might fall as a domino effect of Raven's raid and instead more like Raven personally bathed in the blood of civilians and was the one doing all the killing, or that the Grimm were intended to be lured there for the express purpose of wiping out the town even though neither align with what she actually did or would actually want.

So yes, a town, possibly more than one, did get destroyed as a result of Raven's raids and she's obviously a terrible person for this. However, she didn't kill everyone there herself, on purpose or for the lols and then build a throne out of their skulls which given how she's talked about sometimes, you'd think she had done.

Basically, Raven's a shitty person, but the negative reaction and framing to her actions is far more extreme than is given to other characters and comes off as weirdly disproportionate as a result.

oh look, it's excalibur not understanding the post.
what a shock.

What that writer is ignoring how most of Ironwood not looking as much of a villain was what happened in the next episode and the time between episodes probably would mean as much since Ironwood was already set up for that BEFORE they pushed the episode back. All that really got saved was all the people defending the stealing an airship plan getting laughed at for months after RWBY ends the Volume getting arrested for it.

This is exactly the "missing the forest for the trees" thing that post was talking about.

I would like to take this moment to remind the good people of the RWBY fandom on this site that the forum has a ignore function. simply click on the the person you can' no long be civil toward and select "ignore". this way everyone gets to use the forum as best they are able and no one has to leave

Be nice if that could be limited to specific threads, like for when someone has good or at least interesting opinions about some things but when they talk about one specific topic they make a total ass of themselves so you don't want to see them talk about it.

Honestly, putting the start of V7 in V7 was probably the best for keeping people, myself included, into fooling ourselves that maybe the Aceops weren't ironwoods secret police until the chess piece. If we had the whole hiatus lingering on the heroes being arrested by people that didn't help with the Grimm? Yeah...

I don't think the glee over penny would cancel out the long term concerns about Altas.

Frankly the ACEOPS creeped me the fuck out, and feed into my theory that James's supposed supporters were making him do all the thinking and PR work for them, just generally driving him to the brink by being so fucking messed up, and that the only reason he kept them around was they were better than the previous pack of social officers, bitter faunas war vets, and corporate pawns.

There's something to that theory, yeah

Another person looking to be starting to React, though they seem to know even less about RWBY than the average for people starting with the trailers. Used to watch the gaming part of RT. Seems to have the most surface level reads of things, not getting the quotes at the start of the trailers and not thinking about any of the words Adam said over how cool he sounded saying them.

Also did a thing with the first eight openings a while ago too:
