RWBY Thread III: Time To Say Goodbye

Stop: So gotta few things that need to be said real quick.
so gotta few things that need to be said real quick.
We get a lot of reports from this thread. A lot of it is just a series of people yelling at each other over arguments that have been rehashed hundreds of times since the end of the recent Volume. And I get that the last Volume - and RWBY in general, really - has some controversial moments that people will want to discuss, argue about, debate, etc.

That's fine. We're not going to stop people from doing that, because that's literally what the point of the thread is. However, there's just a point where it gets to be a bit too much, and arguments about whether or not Ironwood was morally justified in his actions in the recent Volume, or if RWBY and her team were in the right for withholding information from Ironwood out of distrust, or whatever flavor of argument of the day descend into insulting other posters, expressing a demeaning attitude towards other's opinions, and just being overall unpleasant. That tends to happen a lot in this thread. We want it to stop happening in this thread.

So! As of now the thread is in a higher state of moderation. What that means is that any future infractions will result in a weeklong boot from the thread, and repeated offenders will likely be permanently removed. So please, everyone endeavor to actually respect the other's arguments, and even if you strongly disagree with them please stay civil and mindful when it comes to responding to others.

In addition, users should refrain from talking about off-site users in the thread. Bear in mind that this does not mean that you cannot continue to post tumblr posts, for example, that add onto the discussion in the thread, with the caveat that it's related to RWBY of course. But any objections to offsite users in the thread should be handled via PM, or they'll be treated as thread violations and infracted as such.

Because "We know best. Now do as we say as we take our army around the world." is kind of how colonialism goes about stuff.

"We know best. We will protect you." etc. etc.
Yeah, though remember that part of the reason why they are the only ones that know was because a certain immortal wizard (who ironically also was being shady in hiding the truth because he knows what's best for people) insisted to hide Salem from the world.

Ah. Rereading it...

How does "I will tell the world about Salem and have my Army help in taking care of the Grimm" translate to colonialism?
Part of the issue here, as you surely know, is that he's focusing that above the very basic problem of 'hey our fucking city needs better infrastructure'. If he can't even protect the one city underneath him (when he is shown to have the capacity, simply not the willingness), how does he expect to protect the entire world?

And that's before taking into account how he's essentially describing a military takeover of other nations 'for their own good'.

The other 2 headmasters also knew about Salem, and yet never tried to mobilize a force across the world, either before or after The Fall. Oz knew about Salem and warned Ironwood AGAINST traveling around with his army in tow.
Ironwood has always thought raw power/force is enough, and yet time after time he has been proven wrong. The fact he wants to spread it to the world, especially after what the world saw Atlas bots due at Vytal, and he thinks the world will listen? Yeeesh.

There's also the fact that Atlas has a... complicated history with the rest of the world, with them having been the bad guys of the last Great War, and the current regime under Ironwood shows that they didn't changed that much since those times, so the rest of the world would had a very hard time trusting him and his army.

Honestly, I see Weiss and Blake at least being more themselves. Blake was afraid to be her own person, and Weiss couldn't see herself outside of a Schnee.
Yah there's some good meta on this, Blake's color is purple, not black, and Weiss's color is blue, not white, their dominant color schemes in V1 were that of their abusers, not their own.

I mean it's more likely that Rooster Teeth was just trying to create a more visually interesting character design. The color thing isn't super absolute. Hell Yang is in more tan than yellow at this point.

Huh. That's handy.

Also can we talk a bit about how incredible Ren's growth with his Semblance is? And I'm not talking about his emotion reading which already gets a ton of attention. No I want to talk about how much better he has gotten at masking emotions. Back in volume 4 he struggled to mask just two people at range and a lot of attention has been called on how he needs Jaune to mask large groups of people. But now his growth has gotten him far enough that he can mask hundreds/thousands of people at the same time for at least a few minutes even after burning out all of his energy on the rescue mission just a few hours prior. Mad respect.

I don't fully agree with that. Yes RWBY does pull off surprises like Oscar pulling out the the magic nuke but generally RWBY tends to follow a pattern of "You know the general direction things are going but not the specifics." Like with Pyrrha, we knew SOMETHING was going to happen with her considering how Volume 3 was going but not the specifics. Same with tomorrow. We all have a general idea of what's going to happen but no idea what the result will be.

Ironwood is admittedly more "Obivious in retrospect"

And yet a lot of people don't get that.

I have seen a lot of predictions
That we're going to see a mirror scene of Cinder killing Rhodes with Winter killing Ironwood:

I think someone even drew fanart of it, though I can't find it right now. Anyway, while that's certainly a possibility it also gave me an idea that I've been stewing on for the last couple of days, and I'd like to make a prediction of my own. Cinder's big thing this volume has been her character arc of learning to fight smarter, rather than harder. Culminating in her brilliant derailing of Ruby & Co's otherwise mostly flawless plan.

So here's the thing, I can't help but notice how Penny is carrying the Staff of Creation on her back. And with how much focus has been put on Penny's development I doubt she's dying any time soon, especially since Cinder going after her powers would go against the point of Cinder's character development. But Cinder needs a big win here. She spent one of Jinn's 3 per 100 years questions on this plan she's concocted, she needs to pull out a big win. And getting the Staff would certainly qualify, not to mention put a lot more pressure on the heroes and create a situation where Ghira and whatever other reinforcements show up can truly save the day.

So with that in mind and considering how Cinder's more intelligent approach is basically just a result of her going back to her roots as an underdog that had to use every tool at their disposal to survive here is the parallel to the Rhodes fight that I expect to see:

Basically at some point in the finale I expect something to happen that will, if not turn the tide against Cinder then at least make it uncertain if she can actually beat Penny. Made Jaune, Nora, Blake and the Happy Huntresses will all gang up on her and fighting them all and Penny at the same time is too much. Maybe Jaune and Nora join the fight and the combination of Nora having her Aura amped by Jaune and Penny amping Nora's Semblance with lightning (like she amped Floating Array in her last fight) creates an unstoppable thunder deity that Cinder can't face while also dealing with Penny. Or maybe Team FNKI, Ciel and other students and Huntsmen will show up and help out, showing that Cinder got too focused on Ruby and her team to realize the strength of all the bonds they've cultivated. Or maybe Raven or Ghira+Illia show up.

In any case Cinder is faced with the choice between a risky fight against a Maiden or just going for the Relic and getting out of there. And I think she's going to go for the Relic and she will steal it the same way she stole Rhodes weapon, by creating a smokescreen to cover an "attack" that's actually just a distraction from her snatching the Relic. In other words:

"Stealing is an art of patience, coordination, and in a pinch, sleight of hand."

Those costumes are from a magical world where Atlas has its shit together :)
Nah, they are from the magical land of "Just off-screen to spare the budget" along with all those dudes with rocket launchers and whatever weapons caused the explosions hitting the Deathstalker the Atlesian Soldiers were fighting in volume 3. Joining it are all the Atlesian Beam Turrets, Burrow Guns and Arrachnea Mines, soldiers with miniguns and Military Huntsmen and Atlas Academy students who aren't Team FNKI (or rather, Flynt and Neon) having actual fights and using their Semblances and stuff.

Sigh. What I wouldn't give to be able to pay RT all the revenue and connections they make from animating that Transformer series and give them said dough to put all those animation efforts into RWBY and gen:LOCK instead. :(

Oh well. We live in a society. :/

Saw a good followup on that.

had a emblem. But Ironwood seemingly doesn't.

Emblems are a common feature on Remnant that are used to represent a person and can be compared to personal signatures. They are commonly found adorning weapons and armor but have also appeared on clothing, personal equipment, and even as tattoos. Some characters, such as Ruby Rose, put their...

Incidentailly said Emblem looks really fucking badass and makes me hope to hell that we can see Lionheart in his prime at some point during RWBY: The Grimm Campaign. I mean just look at that thing. 🦁
