RWBY Thread III: Time To Say Goodbye

Stop: So gotta few things that need to be said real quick.
so gotta few things that need to be said real quick.
We get a lot of reports from this thread. A lot of it is just a series of people yelling at each other over arguments that have been rehashed hundreds of times since the end of the recent Volume. And I get that the last Volume - and RWBY in general, really - has some controversial moments that people will want to discuss, argue about, debate, etc.

That's fine. We're not going to stop people from doing that, because that's literally what the point of the thread is. However, there's just a point where it gets to be a bit too much, and arguments about whether or not Ironwood was morally justified in his actions in the recent Volume, or if RWBY and her team were in the right for withholding information from Ironwood out of distrust, or whatever flavor of argument of the day descend into insulting other posters, expressing a demeaning attitude towards other's opinions, and just being overall unpleasant. That tends to happen a lot in this thread. We want it to stop happening in this thread.

So! As of now the thread is in a higher state of moderation. What that means is that any future infractions will result in a weeklong boot from the thread, and repeated offenders will likely be permanently removed. So please, everyone endeavor to actually respect the other's arguments, and even if you strongly disagree with them please stay civil and mindful when it comes to responding to others.

In addition, users should refrain from talking about off-site users in the thread. Bear in mind that this does not mean that you cannot continue to post tumblr posts, for example, that add onto the discussion in the thread, with the caveat that it's related to RWBY of course. But any objections to offsite users in the thread should be handled via PM, or they'll be treated as thread violations and infracted as such.

Triggerhappy is right: From a certain point of view, Ozpin is overstepping his official authority as a headmaster, because Ironwood should be answering to the Vale Council who put him in charge of security.
More than that, pay attention to Ozpin's words. "My kingdom" Now, that could simply be a reference to the fact that he's the one who takes care of the academy here, but given the fact that he's the oldest person in the series (probably), that could simply mean that yes, Vale may or may not ahve a council but the true boss is Ozpin.

I thought that too at first but I also call the US my country so it's probably a bit of a stretch.

Honestly, I sorta assumed that from the get go.

I mean, he is the guy in charge of teaching and training the country's elite magical super soldiers.

That seems to be the sort of position that gives someone a fair bit of power.

Ozpin's probably not immortal, but he's definitely been around for a long time, longer than a normal human, they've all but stated it at this point.

Just watched the Worlds of Remnant from Volume 3, Ozpin makes for a much better narrator than Cortana, in my opinion. There were some tidbits amongst the exposition that I found rather strange, in the sense I suspect they may perhaps foreshadow future events to come next week. (Cause' this week we're just getting another World of Remnant.)

The one that crosses the top of my head the most is how the CCTS needs all four towers in order to remain active, and taking one out will shut the entire system down. If I was interested in the idea of causing mass chaos, which I think is Cinder's endgame, I'd go right for an information and communications blackout of the highest order. But what's that you say? The tower is one of the most well-guarded structures in Vale? Well, at the moment there's a massive colosseum floating right nearby, imagine the damage one might be able to do if they knocked it out near or above the tower. Not only will that damage the relay tower, but even if it misses, dropping something as big as that will severely damage the surrounding area. With the resulting casualties and destruction the panic and hysteria will call more Grimm, possibly enough to destroy Vale, and its tower.

The blackout after that may or may not incite the reactions needed to attract Grimm at other places, and this just after the shitstorm caused when Yang was tricked into punching Mercury, or Pyrrha's Semblance tearing Penny to pieces.

Of course, that's just me guessing, most likely Cinder's great big evil scheme will be less complex or she might be going for a similar idea just with destroying Vale with Grimm, getting the rest of the Fall Maiden's powers, and leaving the CCTS active so people can spread the dread. Whatever her play is in the great game of things, I foresee Vale is just the beginning.

The stadium is a symbol of unity between the nations too. Destroying it is rather symbolic of her plans, it would seem.

Not to mention with an info blackout the general population will only have Cinder's speech to go on for however long it would take to restore at least local communications. That would result in plenty of time for people to make up their own minds and settle into a certain way of thinking about the situation.

It only occurred to me a little while ago, but Winter said she was guarding some of the new Paladins right? Who's expecting them to pop up at some point in the next few episodes?

The next World of Remnant is about the Maidens. Here's the titlecard.

All of their faces are Ruby. Clearly, this means Ruby is the super ultra special Maiden who can wield the power of all the seasons!

[Discussion] Volume 3, World of Remnant 4: The Four Maidens
Huh no laser team today, cool, not that I'm against adds but still.

Ozpin's narrating again and we are at a snowy house. Its next to a river, the old dude does not resemble Ozpin much and he's also described as a wizard.

Ozpin even does the voices! :D Winter is waiting for her sisters and was named Winter from the start, the wizard followed Winter's example to meditate. Also I'm beginning to think the Maidens may have had some magic about them regardless given how the seasons switched the moment one arrived, or he just takes long naps.

Spring is a cinnamon role of enthusiasm. Summer is super philosopher, also all the maidens just chilling at his place waiting on one another amuses me for some reason like "Yeah this tree seems nice, whatever, I'll just sit here."

Why are they all just giving him food? I did like the character progression though that was demonstrated by him welcoming someone happily over tolerating them. Hmm, I see no Faunus, this irritates me personally, but that's just me. Huh the wizard apparently lived for centuries. Winter is the eldest and they apparently go around helping people like this all the time. Simple souls I guess.

Hmm it sounds like he gave up his magic to them, interesting. Summer controls fire, Spring makes things grow.

No one ate the meal, they promised to come back once and every year.
Edit: Sorry forgot to spoiler! :(

Definitely one of the more interesting World of Remnants, since it's not expository, but a full recounting of the Story of the Seasons. We're probably not meant to take any of it literally, but treat it like a fairy tale. As when we first encountered this tale a few episodes ago, major Deathly Hallows vibes from the story.

I'd say there are only two major things that we didn't already know from Pyrrha's version of the story. First, that there does seem to be some level of difference between the Maidens' powers: Winter has ice, Spring has plants, Summer has fire, and Fall has leaves. Obviously, from Amber's showing we know that it's not a strict delineation since I'm pretty sure she used all of those, but perhaps there is some thematic separation. We probably won't know for sure until we meet another Maiden.

Second and more importantly, the story concludes with the Maidens promising to come back and visit the wizard once a year. That is almost certainly going to play a role some time down the line, probably once the other Maidens start coming into play.

One thing we need to keep in mind is that this is also a season story to explain WHY Winter Spring Summer and Fall all come around again. So we cant take the whole promise thing seriously because that may not be part of the original myth.
More then likely there is 2 parts the one that explains how the maidens got their powers, A wizard did it Harry, and a season story explaining the basics of what to do during the seasons and the order they come in, Winter Spring Summer Fall. We know PART of the story is correct Maidens with Powerful abilities do exist the rest though...well we shall see.

Plot twist: it's Emerald, she's been infiltrating Cinder's organisation to bring her down from the inside.

I kinda suspect Ruby actually might be a candidate for the Summer maiden.
Ya know, with her mom and all.
....Pfffftttttt, who am I kidding?
