RWBY Thread III: Time To Say Goodbye

Stop: So gotta few things that need to be said real quick.
so gotta few things that need to be said real quick.
We get a lot of reports from this thread. A lot of it is just a series of people yelling at each other over arguments that have been rehashed hundreds of times since the end of the recent Volume. And I get that the last Volume - and RWBY in general, really - has some controversial moments that people will want to discuss, argue about, debate, etc.

That's fine. We're not going to stop people from doing that, because that's literally what the point of the thread is. However, there's just a point where it gets to be a bit too much, and arguments about whether or not Ironwood was morally justified in his actions in the recent Volume, or if RWBY and her team were in the right for withholding information from Ironwood out of distrust, or whatever flavor of argument of the day descend into insulting other posters, expressing a demeaning attitude towards other's opinions, and just being overall unpleasant. That tends to happen a lot in this thread. We want it to stop happening in this thread.

So! As of now the thread is in a higher state of moderation. What that means is that any future infractions will result in a weeklong boot from the thread, and repeated offenders will likely be permanently removed. So please, everyone endeavor to actually respect the other's arguments, and even if you strongly disagree with them please stay civil and mindful when it comes to responding to others.

In addition, users should refrain from talking about off-site users in the thread. Bear in mind that this does not mean that you cannot continue to post tumblr posts, for example, that add onto the discussion in the thread, with the caveat that it's related to RWBY of course. But any objections to offsite users in the thread should be handled via PM, or they'll be treated as thread violations and infracted as such.

So over on SB an interesting theory came up regarding Red like Roses II that as Ruby was mentioned to be too young to really remember her mother that the song is based around Yang and her birth mother/Summer Rose instead. Fanart is already popping up.
And to dispel said sad feels:

Wasn't there a Word of God that the song was about Ruby and her Mother?
Honestly can't remember there being one, I had just assumed it.

According to Jeff Williams, the lyrics of this song are about Ruby's reaction to the death of her mother, Summer Rose, and Summer's regrets about leaving her daughter. (link)

Edit*2
Still some of the lyrics just seem to link more to Yang then Ruby. Oh well, these things are always open to interpretation.

The fucking laser pointer.

I laughed at first. Then I felt horrible because her reaction seemed to me to be "really? Really? That's how you want to do this?" And she just ended up following it out of exasperation because whoever was doing it A) knew she was a cat Fauna in the first place and so was probably one of her close friends and B) wasn't going to give up any time soon.

Honestly, in-universe that seems like it would be kind of a weirdly (unintentionally?) racist thing to do, the kind of thing that would get a "not cool bro" even from a good friend.

Oh, I totally agree; that seems like something an anti-Faunus bully would resort to, not the best friend of a Faunus.

Still hilarious.

I suspect that it may have had elements of 'this is the only way to actually hold your attention for enough time to even start getting the message across'.

This is Yang.

She's "the kind of person who would teach someone how to swim by pushing them in the water." as said by the RT team. She probably didn't want to make a scene by directly dragging Blake off from where she was working/brooding. As a result she went to the 'I am going to annoy you until you come to me' strategy though I agree it was in the 'not cool bro' category.

Of course there is the question is if anything less could even get Blake's attention at this point.

If it hadn't worked I suspect Yang's next tactic would have involved some choice nepeta herbs and possibly some brightly-colored feathers tied to a fishing line.

Well sometimes friends just have to do horrible things to eachother. Most of the time for shits and giggles, sometimes because it is for their friends's own good.

Yang got shits and giggles and did it for Blake's own good. Very efficient.

You know, it just occurred to me but, I think Velvet and the rest of Team CFVY aren't first years. The fact that they were in charge of planning the party before, but couldn't because of an away mission, combined with what Glynda had said about the freshman class having their first missions after the dance, sparked the idea.

that doesn't really mean that much. other then the year spefic classes at my high school each class has a mix of students from different years.
Point. Could be a class that Velvet didn't take the previous semester/year and decided to pick for the current one. She just had the bad luck to be in the same class as Cardin.

Which reminds me, we need a team CFVY trashing team CRDL moment during the tournament.

Pyrrha handing them their asses solo not enough, eh?

... Yeah. Totally not enough.
Pyrrha hammering them is a lot like when Ruby smashed Junior's rent-a-thugs. The comparative skill levels of the two sides turn it into a simple curb stomp (nothing wrong with that though).

I'm talking about 1v1 or 4v4 fight when CRDL isn't going up against a world renowned elite fighter.

One thing the tournament will help with is start giving us some decent power rankings. The only fights between students have been an epic food fight that was just them having fun and Pyrhha taking out the trash.

I know that team RWBY is mostly evenly matched, with their fighting styles going all rock-paper-scissors but JNPR in particular have much more uneven power levels. Pyrrha may be the strongest of the eight, and Jaune's still the weakest. And then there's SSSN and Penny...

Oh, definitely. Though I was amused, "they're really doing this?" was my first reaction, followed by the hope that Blake wouldn't start swatting at the Red Dot.

But it worked out: Blake looked around for the source of the laser pointer, and didn't paw at it like a cat. (Well, she did try to step on it later, but something something sleep deprivation. :D)

Sounds reasonable. (I could've sworn that someone from Rooster Teeth mentioned Velvet being an older student previously, but I don't know the reference.)

So, does anyone think its significant that Yang described the Bewolves with "those burning red eyes" and then makes her eyes go red with a burning sound? Could her Semblance be related to that incident or something?

Possibly. I mean, we still have no idea how people develop semblances, though the leading theory is that it's a mix of a whole bunch of different factors including genetics, environment, and personality.

Alright everyone, I'm taking bets on who gets their speaking role first: Team CFVY of the other two S's in team SSSN.

Military candy espresso Vs Mythological K-pop boyband FIGHT.
