RWBY Thread III: Time To Say Goodbye

Stop: So gotta few things that need to be said real quick.
so gotta few things that need to be said real quick.
We get a lot of reports from this thread. A lot of it is just a series of people yelling at each other over arguments that have been rehashed hundreds of times since the end of the recent Volume. And I get that the last Volume - and RWBY in general, really - has some controversial moments that people will want to discuss, argue about, debate, etc.

That's fine. We're not going to stop people from doing that, because that's literally what the point of the thread is. However, there's just a point where it gets to be a bit too much, and arguments about whether or not Ironwood was morally justified in his actions in the recent Volume, or if RWBY and her team were in the right for withholding information from Ironwood out of distrust, or whatever flavor of argument of the day descend into insulting other posters, expressing a demeaning attitude towards other's opinions, and just being overall unpleasant. That tends to happen a lot in this thread. We want it to stop happening in this thread.

So! As of now the thread is in a higher state of moderation. What that means is that any future infractions will result in a weeklong boot from the thread, and repeated offenders will likely be permanently removed. So please, everyone endeavor to actually respect the other's arguments, and even if you strongly disagree with them please stay civil and mindful when it comes to responding to others.

In addition, users should refrain from talking about off-site users in the thread. Bear in mind that this does not mean that you cannot continue to post tumblr posts, for example, that add onto the discussion in the thread, with the caveat that it's related to RWBY of course. But any objections to offsite users in the thread should be handled via PM, or they'll be treated as thread violations and infracted as such.

I have a different theory on Pyrrha: Remember what she said when she unlocked Jaune's aura? "For it is in passing that we achieve immortality,
through this we become a paragon of virtue and glory to rise above all.
Infinite in distance and unbound by death,
I release your soul, and by my shoulder, protect thee."
Maybe what's left of her soul is connected to Jaune's, and she's piggybacking on his aura. Also, Joane of Arc supposedly had hallucinations. What better way to use that aspect than to use ghost!Pyrrha? I'm probably grasping at straws.

Nothing, other than being a potential outgrowth. Oh, wait, it has everything to do with it, as it's in retrospect pretty clear foreshadowing that something was up, since nobody else used their semblances even remotely as much as she did, or with such casual ease. You know, almost like the kind of foreshadowing everybody's been bemoaning that RT should have made. It's exactly the right kind of foreshadowing in retrospect when you think about it.
Again. How? How does "someone uses their Semblance a lot more than others" equal "I have a power completely different from the power I displayed previously". If it was Maiden powers, then I guess I can see the resemblance, but this is apparently something completely separate from that. Like seriously, even a throwaway line about eyes and skilled warriors would do wonders.

You're reaching. A lot.

That's not what we're saying.

Good foreshadowing is more than dropping a flag early. Good foreshadowing makes you think. Maybe not at the time. But in retrospect.

As it is we went three seasons before one comment in the very first episode became relevant.

With no hint from Ruby herself that she had any sort of special power beyond her, as near as standard issue semblance as you can get. It could have been something as simple as the occasional grimm hesitating for a heartbeat in her presence.

Something as minor as that would convey that something wasn't quite right. Would have taken little time to implement. And would have been a massive lightbulb in retrospect.
I imagine for her powers to work on any respect they'd need to be active in some manner, that is to say we may get that 'now' but if they were in a dormant state beforehand it wouldn't have made sense to show them hesitating.

Beyond that from what some people have been saying the first three saeasons are in many respects closer to a 'season 1' of other shows which may also play a role.

Plus and this is more from me, my general view of RWBY has been that, for the most part, we know only a little more than the characters, stuff that shocks them is meant to shock us too at least at first and again,if it was to be a surprise I'm not sure how much more they could have done beyond Ozpin's outright line about her eyes without basically revealing 'something is up, expect big things when shit goes down' which, to me, would have sort of undermined the whole 'Grim are invading, Cinder's winning' ETC and the surprise. .
That's just me though, I don't think it was perfect but I don't think it was 'bad' by any stretch and certainly not an ass-pull given the planning put into RWBY.

Big Sister / Surrogate Mother Yang's hugs should never be less soft and warm.
More or less what Weeble said, though in all honesty said hugs are likely to be lacking now anyway and she'll be less able to look out for her little sister.

I like the credits song, the first one.
It sounds like the lady at the end is mocking Ozpin.
If RWBY were a musical, this would probably be her song.

Do you mean this one?

Also, I know its ridiculous, but I desperately want ABRN in season 4 and for them to like, get involved in all this conspiracy, magic stuff on their own, like I actually have snippets in my head built around such ideas its ridiculous.

Eh, Yang activated her Semblance every time she got angry. Hell, she hadn't even taken any damage the first two non-trailer times she activated it. I think Glyphs are a secondary part of the Schnee Semblance in addition to summons, and Weiss used those all the time. It's outright stated by Mercury that Pyrrha is known as the "invincible woman" or whatever because she uses her Semblance all the time in subtle ways. And when she used it full-power, she very nearly wrecked full-Maiden Cinder. Blake uses her afterimages every in almost every fight.

Anyway, the "eyes" foreshadowing? It's nothing of the sort. Anyone read the Harry Potter books. Many people remark that Harry's eyes are "just like Lily's." But it never actually amounts to anything, other than stating he inherited his mother's eyes.

Finally, I came to the show for RWBY. Y'know, the name of the show. Not RNJR.

I'm not really sure what that proves to be honest, I'm not trying to be rude I'm just saying that I don't really get it. Ozpin didn't compare Ruby's eyes to her mothers he just looked at her really intensely and said she had silver eyes hinting that meant 'something; to him and later we find out he's the leader of a magical conspiracy and that some myths fables and legends are actually true, not just the Maidens, but some meaning unseen/unexpected magic can pop up and presumably will as the world is expanded and explored, like Qrow's seeming ability to shape shift if that's not just his Semblance.

I do get where you're coming from, form here though, I wanted Ren and Nora to get a bit more screen-time but not at the expense of Weiss, Blake and Yang, however until we see season 4 I'm not sure we'll know how much focus that will be getting or how long it will take for RWBY to reunite, I'm sort of expecting half a season before Yang or Blake show up anyway.

I agree. I liked it when I first heard it. Then I started to listen specifically for the lyrics and liked it more.

Oddly enough (or not), I especially honed in on the part that said, "Legends and fairy tales scattered in time,"suggesting what this episode pretty much told us. That there is a lot more truth that people don't know that has been lost throughout the ages, and there being a lot more than simply the Maidens and the silver eyed warriors bits.

Penny had synthetic flesh, and Ruby never reacted to her hugs as anything other than crushingenthusiastic.
Not just that -- Pyrrha actually struck her a number of times, and apparently didn't feel anything appreciably "off" about those impacts.

Keep in mind that this is being said with the idea that Penny's Aura might not have been protecting her whole body, but merely some removable, CPU core. Given how stopping that truck tore up the skin of her palms, and how her wires cut right through her.

The thing that caught my ear the most was how the singer mocked the listener (Ozpin presumably) about how he's dragged others into his war.

spoiler: The entire Grim state of Remnant is just because two old magical people are having a long tiff but Ozpin never got very good at creating golems' so he needs to talk people into fighting for him.

That really would be a more compelling line of argument if Salem's goal wasn't (presumably) "kill everyone".

I mean there's still the "then they could have spent their last years enjoying themselves instead of fighting" line of argument but...

I didn't say that I agreed with her. Much like Dumbledore, it would imply that Ozpin manipulated others to become weapons of war against the enemy.
Not that I blame either of them, since the alternative is entirely undesirable.

And then it turns out that this is just a lover's spat! :V

Nah. Salem's totally his sister. Gotta follow that sister trend.
you might want to relook at gods and goddess her being his sister doesnt change ANYTHING about this possibly being a lover's spat.

So I had a crazy idea has anyone compared Salem's face to Pyrrha's? Like they might be the same face and Salem is using Pyrrha as a host kind of thing?
I just had that idea pop into my head so I was wondering.

EDIT
ok I just looked and they do look alike the shape of the jaw and the eyebrows. Eyes look different though hard to say if that is a true difference or how they are being held.

Not sure if they are close to the same face or just they look alike.

Nah, Salem has a pointier chin and more angular eyes.

Chin looks the same to me but the eyes do look different.
Salem's chin is just a bit pointier.

"Ruby, I have made more mistakes than any man, woman, and child on this planet. Screwing my sister was one of them."
Plot Twist: The Grimm only exist because one man had the hots for his sister and couldn't keep it in his pants. A story worthy of Greek Mythology.

I see what you are saying and I agree she probably isnt Pyrrha though I have to point out the chin thing could be from the view and not how her chin actually is.

I just want my Pyrrha back.
