RWBY Thread III: Time To Say Goodbye

Stop: So gotta few things that need to be said real quick.
so gotta few things that need to be said real quick.
We get a lot of reports from this thread. A lot of it is just a series of people yelling at each other over arguments that have been rehashed hundreds of times since the end of the recent Volume. And I get that the last Volume - and RWBY in general, really - has some controversial moments that people will want to discuss, argue about, debate, etc.

That's fine. We're not going to stop people from doing that, because that's literally what the point of the thread is. However, there's just a point where it gets to be a bit too much, and arguments about whether or not Ironwood was morally justified in his actions in the recent Volume, or if RWBY and her team were in the right for withholding information from Ironwood out of distrust, or whatever flavor of argument of the day descend into insulting other posters, expressing a demeaning attitude towards other's opinions, and just being overall unpleasant. That tends to happen a lot in this thread. We want it to stop happening in this thread.

So! As of now the thread is in a higher state of moderation. What that means is that any future infractions will result in a weeklong boot from the thread, and repeated offenders will likely be permanently removed. So please, everyone endeavor to actually respect the other's arguments, and even if you strongly disagree with them please stay civil and mindful when it comes to responding to others.

In addition, users should refrain from talking about off-site users in the thread. Bear in mind that this does not mean that you cannot continue to post tumblr posts, for example, that add onto the discussion in the thread, with the caveat that it's related to RWBY of course. But any objections to offsite users in the thread should be handled via PM, or they'll be treated as thread violations and infracted as such.

Large-scale violence is not mutually exclusive with guerilla warfare. The White Fang pretty clearly do not have an extensive infrastructure or technology base backing them, and everything we've seen of them paints a picture of an underground movement fighting a guerilla war. That's completely antithetical to heavy assets like warships.

What I'm trying to get is :

-Schnee Company HQ, optimized to resist an infantry assault.
-Atlesian Warship passing through the area, optimized not to resist an infantry assault.
-Covertly Board Warship, kill/neutralize crew before they can call for help
-Alpha strike HQ
-Parachute to safety

Yeah, razing a Schnee compound with laser fire from the cloud level would be pretty sweet, but given the Schnee's corporate muscle, I suspect any facility that would warrant that kind of firepower would also warrant calling in a CAP squadron of Atlesian ships, at which point, why not just skip hijacking a ship for a very expensive suicide mission and put the effort towards cracking the place open with commando tactics?

How that work out for the rest of Torchwood's squadron again?

Sure Neo had cover due to the Grim Attack but considering how quickly she and Roman were able to turn the guns on the other ships surprise seems like it would let them do a lot of damage.

As blasphemous as it sounds, brute force doesn't solve everything.

Commando tactics are brute force.

Just applied with surprise by a small number of people.

Hell, one would argue that just taking over an airship is a propaganda coup for whomever did it. Just watch the Atlesian military try to explain to taxpayers that their flying battleship got taken over by the White Fang, much less a single personn

Up until Cinder offered the WF money and Dust it seems like they were a, not a small or weak movement, but not nearly as dangerous or damaging to society as they currently are given they had a base out in the woods in tents and were bombing trains. They were dangerous but to me in a largely middle-tier sense.

You know one thing I love about the 'order 66' thing, not just that it was foreshadowed well in my books, or that the scene itself was really well directed and framed but that despite the Knights being chump change compared to Hunters we still know that not only are they useful, taking out chump Grim, but that they are likely spread all over the city and likely in many areas where there aren't Hunters to turn them into scrap metal, and now they'll be turning on the civilians.

Also I think we can expect Yang making her way to the airship as well and fighting Roman.

Oh and also Poor Roy from BRNZ, He's apparently being carried by a Nevermore. "I wanted screen time but not like this!"
Which in turns makes you wonder what is it about Raven that makes Neo so scared of her?
Well I do have a theory that Neo took a penalty to become so badass and that being a weakness against masked samurai maidens XD I kid, I have no idea but it likely means that Raven sits in the army killer category of badass which is probably a weight class above Neo's own impressive ship killer ranking.

This popped up over on SB and was too good not to share.

Presenting the two understated and still completely balls-to-the-walls baddasses of Beacon.

Students! I think it would be best for you to leave.
Miss Rose, this day will surely go down in Remnant's history. I'd prefer it if my students could live to tell about it.

One final match, Barty! Place your bets!

Or something about Raven's own technique/semblance lets her no sell Neo/counter her gimmick.

That's possible, though I still prefer to think that Neo beat Yang on skill and strength over depending on illusions.

Not saying she didn't.

Just that on top of Raven having a terrifying reputation she may also be able to counter anything Neo would try to even the fight.

My money is on her showing up just in time to save Blake's ass.

Probably with a 'Fuck you, don't care' for Adam.
That would be very cool, however I recall a Vine posted with Yang repeatedly punching Roman in the face so that's why I'm expecting it, though that could have been a for fun animation.
What's your concept?
It sort of varies but the general idea is that she projects an Aura construct, either a weapon or a straight up energy-knight that she uses to fight for her similar to the Schnee summons in concept though not born of her defeated foes. I even have her give it a name/names depending on whether it comes in only one form or several, the primary being "Gallant Knight!" Thanks for the curiosity :)

Roy Stallion from Team BRNZ, the guy with the wrist-saws.

After other people said they saw a Nevermore carry someone off, I took a look and realized it wasn't a generic character. By process of elimination (since it couldn't be anyone we saw fighting), and bolstered by the fact that we saw him at the fairgrounds with Weiss and Blake last episode, I narrowed it down to Roy. Comparing the image with earlier screenshots confirmed Roy's identity.

It looks like he has his wrist-saws with him, so at least he's not defenseless. Ruby and Weiss survived their Nevermore ride, right?

Perhaps BNZ will rescue their hapless teammate. (Maybe they didn't show up this episode because they were busy chasing him down?)

On an airship
Roman: Ah Red so good of you to join me care for a seat? popcorn? Its a wonderful show.
Ruby:...You dont have cookies? You Monster.
Roman: Mwhahaha!

Ironwood: Mr. Torchwick you have been relieved of duty.
Roman: James , James, dont you see you lost.
Ironwood: I am here and I am unbowed so long as those 2 facts are true I have not lost.
Roman: Tsk and here I was hoping for a SHOW!
Ironwood: Fireworks? Is that all..let me show you how its done.
Roman: ACK! That was Lester!
Ruby: Uhmm why did they lose their shirts?......oh wow...
Ruby: Oh thanks...good popcooooorrrrnnnn...

Today is the anniversary of the death of Monty Oum... We have lost a great man on this day, gone long before he reached his prime.

In spite of that, his creation, RWBY, lives on, and with that last gift of his, he has truly achieved immortality with all of us.

Here's to you, Monty Oum.

Additionally, something I wrote for the occasion. Please don't send the entirety of Beacon Academy after me.

For those who haven't seen it, Barbara's tribute to Monty:

Dear Monty | Rooster Teeth
Article:
DEAR MONTY

It's been 1 year since you were taken from us. There's not a day that goes by that I don't think about you, and not a day that goes by that I don't miss you.
I wish so badly that you could see the impact you've had on the world, and what your creations have become. I wish you could have seen RWBY on Netflix, get picked up in Japan, become a game, and how it has inspired and touched millions. I wish you could see Volume 3, and how beautiful it is. I wish you could see how big the animation team has grown, and the magic they produce. I wish you could be in our Monday all-hands meetings, talking about how you remember when the company was just a handful of people. I wish you could have been with us for the premiere of Lazer Team. I wish I could have a 3 hour heart to heart with you in the kitchen at work over a cappuccino at 2 in the morning. I wish you could have seen the outpour of love and support from our community when you passed. I wish you could see the lives you continue to affect on a daily basis.

I wish we could have seen what you would've done next.

But most of all, I wish you were still here, making the world brighter and more magnificent every day.

We've kept moving forward, but don't for a second think we're not taking you along with us.
Miss you buddy.

In other news, Remnant Scans has released a fan-translation for Chapter 3 of the Japanese RWBY manga. Some interesting snips:

On the latter, I think "possession-type Grimm" are something physical (like e.g. the Flood from Halo), rather than a ghost or spirit. People were speculating what might happen if the Grimm Dragon's "Grimm summoning" ichor landed on a person or robot; could be something like that, but more independent. Might also be related to the stuff Cinder's Grimm beetle shot out at Amber to steal her Maiden powers?

Also, apparently Weiss was a piano prodigy, as well as a singer and huntress. What can't she do?
