RWBY Thread III: Time To Say Goodbye

Stop: So gotta few things that need to be said real quick.
so gotta few things that need to be said real quick.
We get a lot of reports from this thread. A lot of it is just a series of people yelling at each other over arguments that have been rehashed hundreds of times since the end of the recent Volume. And I get that the last Volume - and RWBY in general, really - has some controversial moments that people will want to discuss, argue about, debate, etc.

That's fine. We're not going to stop people from doing that, because that's literally what the point of the thread is. However, there's just a point where it gets to be a bit too much, and arguments about whether or not Ironwood was morally justified in his actions in the recent Volume, or if RWBY and her team were in the right for withholding information from Ironwood out of distrust, or whatever flavor of argument of the day descend into insulting other posters, expressing a demeaning attitude towards other's opinions, and just being overall unpleasant. That tends to happen a lot in this thread. We want it to stop happening in this thread.

So! As of now the thread is in a higher state of moderation. What that means is that any future infractions will result in a weeklong boot from the thread, and repeated offenders will likely be permanently removed. So please, everyone endeavor to actually respect the other's arguments, and even if you strongly disagree with them please stay civil and mindful when it comes to responding to others.

In addition, users should refrain from talking about off-site users in the thread. Bear in mind that this does not mean that you cannot continue to post tumblr posts, for example, that add onto the discussion in the thread, with the caveat that it's related to RWBY of course. But any objections to offsite users in the thread should be handled via PM, or they'll be treated as thread violations and infracted as such.

Honestly I want Emerald to end up in a situation where Cinder could save her but doing so would harm her goals thus Cinder discards her little illusionist. Now that would be fitting punishment.

And then Ruby saves her so she has to LIVE with her destroyed world.

Ladies and Gentlemen there is FAR worse things in this world then death and having your very embodiment of who you want to be betraying you and then living with that is far worse then mere death.

It's times like these when you really wish you had stuff like Archimedes II.
Damn Dust and it's inability to space properly!

While this would be likely to happen, and I generally agree with you, ending someone you just want painfully dead has a greater pull than the cruel mercy of life if the option isn't present by someone else and/or your head isn't clear enough.

Clearly some people are going to need more time before they can consider other options besides a brutal end.

On the bright side cruel mercy preserves the main cast's purity.

(0 points) Violation of Rule 2
I'd...probably not spare her.
The death would be slow, and ungodly painful, but I wouldn't let her live.

So we go from painful punstering to ITGing over fictional characters.

This is why none of us should ever be given power ever. :V

I do wish people would use less acronyms. I mean, I know that since I'm online anyway it's pretty easy to Google them, but it's a hassle I don't need.

The problem with this is if everyone only had basic Aura until recently is the fact that humanity still would have become extinct as even a single three story-tall Goliath or several Deathstalkers would be functionally invulnerable. Early humanity only had swords and the like FFS. Making it so the higher levels of Aura were a recent development is like shooting a toddler in the leg and telling it to run from a bloodlusted cheetah.
The shattered moon, scattered ruins, and the very name of the setting imply that humanity is weaker now than it was in the past. They're a Remnant, an echo of something greater. I strongly suspect that the humans caused the grimm to come into being via Digging Too Deep or Stealing The Planet's Lifeforce or some other foolish thing that had cataclysmic consequences. I also suspect that dust, rather then being 'discovered' and giving them an edge over the grimm, are somehow causing them. If the grimm came before dust, but after their civilization collapsed, then yes humanity being around is improbable, even with aura.

Have we been given any clues on what Ren's semblance is? Or anyone have any theories on what it could be?

My theory was that he is able to project his aura like a blast, and usually channels it through his guns StormFlower, which is why his stamina is so low. He depletes his own aura firing his weapons.
