RWBY Thread III: Time To Say Goodbye

Stop: So gotta few things that need to be said real quick.
so gotta few things that need to be said real quick.
We get a lot of reports from this thread. A lot of it is just a series of people yelling at each other over arguments that have been rehashed hundreds of times since the end of the recent Volume. And I get that the last Volume - and RWBY in general, really - has some controversial moments that people will want to discuss, argue about, debate, etc.

That's fine. We're not going to stop people from doing that, because that's literally what the point of the thread is. However, there's just a point where it gets to be a bit too much, and arguments about whether or not Ironwood was morally justified in his actions in the recent Volume, or if RWBY and her team were in the right for withholding information from Ironwood out of distrust, or whatever flavor of argument of the day descend into insulting other posters, expressing a demeaning attitude towards other's opinions, and just being overall unpleasant. That tends to happen a lot in this thread. We want it to stop happening in this thread.

So! As of now the thread is in a higher state of moderation. What that means is that any future infractions will result in a weeklong boot from the thread, and repeated offenders will likely be permanently removed. So please, everyone endeavor to actually respect the other's arguments, and even if you strongly disagree with them please stay civil and mindful when it comes to responding to others.

In addition, users should refrain from talking about off-site users in the thread. Bear in mind that this does not mean that you cannot continue to post tumblr posts, for example, that add onto the discussion in the thread, with the caveat that it's related to RWBY of course. But any objections to offsite users in the thread should be handled via PM, or they'll be treated as thread violations and infracted as such.

It's Neo. If any single character has been shown as capable of doing it, it's her.

I mean, between her illusions and how easily she toyed with Yang? A bunch of mooks probably didn't even inconvenience her.

To be honest that irks me a little bit. She literally took out a ship load of dudes. What the hell?
Considering the fact that she was walking around in an Atlas army uniform presumably as a disguise, my guess is that her Semblance (whatever it is, because it's not Emerald single/double target illusions) helped. The fact that she's a good enough fighter to hand Yang her own arse also helps.

Those weren't specialists. Winter is a specialist, those are just ordinary soldiers.

I know. But you'd sort of expect their to be a few huntsmen/huntresses (I know they're trying to be inclusive here but is hunter ever used as a gender neutral place holder?) on hand to secure their giant flying military investment.

Emerald's semblance is basically a big blob of universal plot goo to hold everything together. Part of what makes a plan interesting is creating, at least the impression, that a clever slight of hand is going on. But no, it's just illusions all the way down.
Its funny but I think I actually prefer it this way as opposed to Cinder manipulating or tricking Yang and Pyrrha into attacking unnecessarily as that would feel more like the apparently terrible "just as planned" territory people seem concerned about.
Hmm . . . Probably less. If 'Penrose' was actually sapient and capable of making observations, providing, advice, and assisting Ruby in battle, she'd just be a very oddly shaped teammate. I honestly don't see a problem with that.
I actually have snippets based on Penny being designed like that from the get go XD

What's wrong with it?

I don't think Hunter has been used as a neutral term, or necessarily at all though I personally use it as it reads less awkwardly. Given some of the troops training and uniforms it wouldn't shock me if some on the ship were specialists or at least holding a similar level of skill to Hunters, but then, they were going up against Neo so I can't fault them for losing XD

Don't get me wrong. I dislike the intricate 'Just as Planned' chess master idea even more. This just feels a bit lazy.

Even Cinder's hacking doesn't bother me that much. Hollywood can't get computers right nine times out of ten, so why should we expect Rooster Teeth to manage it?

Or we could look at the henchman that's in the crowd for some reason.
Even mooks need time off, I guess.

Also, someone pointed out that the Beacon student three seats to the right of Junior's hatchetman is a Faunus with tusks:

Those tusks would make brushing your teeth and other oral stuff awkward, I bet.

I thought it was officially male hunters, female huntresses, and neutral huntsmen, but I'm not sure where I heard that.

As for Neo taking over the ship, she could have first taken out the bridge and then locked down the rest of the ship, trapping the surviving crew. Atlas's emphasis on automation would help.

Point. And to be fair the Kingdoms haven't fought a war against one another in quite some time. They may have gotten sloppy when their enemies are either unthinking grim or chronically under-equipped terrorists.

I can sort of see lazy, though in this context its more of an in universe Cinder waving her hand and saying "Just use an illusion" to solve her problem while Emerald deals with chronic headaches.

That's fair, though given how the towers work, and when Cinder chose to infect it and where from its entirely possible that her plan virus isn't so unreasonable though I don't know enough to say for certain.

The one thing I have to point out is that cinder has probably been planning for this for years.

Blake trailer is a year before episode 1 from what I have heard now no one has confirmed or denied it as since cinder's hair goes from short to long so solidly at least a couple months from Blake Trailer to Episode 1 plus the time from there till she shows up proper.
Its really clear to me that she has done a lot of prep work such as getting Roman's help and recruiting the White Fang covered well before the plans even started to ramp up.
It doesnt strike me as odd based on what we see of her that she would make sure she has the ability or at least a virus to hack the CTT and place control in her hands as soon as she activates the password.

She strikes me as not as "Just as Planned" mastermind but rather one who has a LOT of backup plans and is willing to edit said plans as things unfold. More then likely Emerald and Mercury's Double Battle Against Coco and Yatsuhashi was a test to see if they can get Emerald's semblance past the sensors in a place where it wont call attention to it. Recall Flynt when he used his Semblance was commented on by Obleck yet we know Emerald used her Semblance and it wasnt. If it was called on the plans would have changed but since it wasnt they could go ahead with it.

Considering how easily Cinder rolled with the whole Train bomb issue and Roman being arrested despite the fact it seriously set her back I doubt very much Emeralds power was such a lynchpin Cinder's whole plan wouldnt work without it.She is just willing to abuse it when she can because why not.

Also Neo would like a word with the captain

What pisses me off are the wires on Penny's sword-guns.

Most of the time, they're not even there. I don't just mean that we don't see them or they're not rendered and animated, I mean that the sword-guns move as though they were NOT attached to strings. They don't move like they're being pulled around by strings, and they spin around in formations that would tangle the strings together and wind around Penny or her opponent.

Schrodinger's Strings.

...Those tusks look like they're growing from her head or something, when in reality/on an actual animal, tusks are just huge teeth. That's something I don't like about Faunus designs (like the two pairs of ears thing), I know most of them are just mooks or BG characters but it feels tacked on. I try to handwave it away by thinking to myself that Faunus' animal parts are very, very vestigial...

This must be the work of an enemy ally Stand Semblance!

Schrodinger's Strings.

It's more disappointing than irritating in my opinion. Personally I think working within limitations is one of the best ways to train creativity (I don't practice what I preach -_-) and somebody sitting down with some sticks on string and trying to plot out Penny's fights in a way that makes sense could offer some cool choreography.

On the other hand I'm not sure how a dozen swords attached to strings could really work, even with perfect coordination.

Yeah, that's been bugging me too.

Especially when Sun can lift himself by his tail.

Give Blake bigger cat ears to hide in her bow and a hair piece with fake silicone human ears. :D

You just want to pet them lets be honest here.

As for Penny's strings they could act less like strings and more like tentacles.....:oshe is the ultimate anti-schoolgirl isnt she? Poor tentacle monsters Penny is combat ready for you.:p

You know what? I agree. I forgot they moved with wires, I thought Penny was controlling them a bit like Pyrrha's semblance. The finale of Volume 1 was a long long time ago...
The way they move like there aren't any wires annoys me.

No looks like a sweatshirt hoodie the guy in grey next to the girl in green right?
I think that is his hood, you just can't see any fold lines on it. It's a bit jarring that the girl in green on the far left has the exact same hairstyle as Nora, but black (I'm pretending everyone with the same hair as someone from the main cast is a die-hard fan and changed their hairstyle).
...The guy next to "hunchback" Sunglasses looks exactly like the guy sitting in the middle row.
