RWBY Thread III: Time To Say Goodbye

Stop: So gotta few things that need to be said real quick.
so gotta few things that need to be said real quick.
We get a lot of reports from this thread. A lot of it is just a series of people yelling at each other over arguments that have been rehashed hundreds of times since the end of the recent Volume. And I get that the last Volume - and RWBY in general, really - has some controversial moments that people will want to discuss, argue about, debate, etc.

That's fine. We're not going to stop people from doing that, because that's literally what the point of the thread is. However, there's just a point where it gets to be a bit too much, and arguments about whether or not Ironwood was morally justified in his actions in the recent Volume, or if RWBY and her team were in the right for withholding information from Ironwood out of distrust, or whatever flavor of argument of the day descend into insulting other posters, expressing a demeaning attitude towards other's opinions, and just being overall unpleasant. That tends to happen a lot in this thread. We want it to stop happening in this thread.

So! As of now the thread is in a higher state of moderation. What that means is that any future infractions will result in a weeklong boot from the thread, and repeated offenders will likely be permanently removed. So please, everyone endeavor to actually respect the other's arguments, and even if you strongly disagree with them please stay civil and mindful when it comes to responding to others.

In addition, users should refrain from talking about off-site users in the thread. Bear in mind that this does not mean that you cannot continue to post tumblr posts, for example, that add onto the discussion in the thread, with the caveat that it's related to RWBY of course. But any objections to offsite users in the thread should be handled via PM, or they'll be treated as thread violations and infracted as such.

Whitedragon, this is not about "sucking fun" out of something, this is just clearly stating the facts the show has given us and making it clear to you that we are tired of the cast being made to be idiots because they don't have spacebattles competence or omnipotence. The heroes were clever in how they handled a dire situation, and they are not at fault for anything that goes wrong on the portal path.

Why do you think I put the "with the benefit of Hindsight (TM)" bit in the original post? I give credit to the heroes with their cleverness regarding the situation, but there's always room for improvement, which is why Hindsight (TM) exists: it allows one to go "well, THERE'S where we fucked up".

Why do you think mocking the failures made in famous engineering disasters is a thing?

Wow, rereading this thread's reactions to Volume 6 was painful. There were some absolutely fucking stupid takes from certain users.

Good to see the SV thread's calmed down since then.

Yeah, but nothing will make me cringe quite like this thread during the Post Volume 5 Pre-Volume 6 period, because I was a really hatefully stupid turd at the time. God, who has the energy for that? Nowadays, I'm just regular stupid.

something I just realized that has not been touched on
Ambrosius only said "Do Not Fall" and said it as a "dire warning". He never explained WHY they shouldn't fall nor WHY it was a dire warning.
Oh yeah, that compounded with the fact that his creations can't destroy, there is no way that the void is gonna kill anybody falling down there. Now how safe it is on the other side and how one would navigate their way out are the real questions.

so current positions
Green Team (Oscar, Ren, Emerald) - Trying to protect a panicking group of civilians in the middle of a sandstorm as Ravager Grimm swoop in and pluck up defensless people. Also Ren is basically out of aura and they have no signal due to said sandstorm.

Evac Team (May, Fiona, Joanna, Jaune, Nora) - Trying to guide people to safety and not falling into the void.

Atlas side (Qrow, Robyn, AceOps, Watts, Winter, Ironwood) - Qrow and Robyn VS Harriet and Vine in the air between 2 drop ships with an armed bomb on board. Watts in the control room and controlling all the tech. Marrow and Elm are still in the hanger, Marrow out cold with no aura and Elm awake but with her arms tired behind her back. Jac is dust in the cell block. Winter and Ironwood are fighting in the Vault area.

Fight Scene (RWBP VS Fried Ice) - Ruby is fighting Neo, Penny and Weiss are fighting Cinder while trying to make sure more people don't get knocked off. Blake is a stressed cat and is unsure what to do. Yang is in the hole.

Unaccounted for - Willow, Whitley and Klein were last seen piloting the Manta that got RWBY and Penny to the hole under Atlas. Pietro and Maria were last seen in the falling Amity.

Did I miss anyone?

Mommy Salami. She could theoretically reconstitute herself next episode. And before someone goes "Oh I don't think that'll happen" you do not know that for certain, so it is still on the table. This show loves proving us wrong. People thought she and Cinder wouldn't appear in Volume 7, but look at what happened.

Ruby's Semblance and character in a nutshell. :p

Anyway, I think I saw a post recently talking about how Miles stated in an interview that Ruby goofing off in class was because she is smart enough that she doesn't need to pay attention to get good grades and it added some interesting discourse about how the education system isn't good at teaching people who are above or below average in any way. Anyone seen that around here or on tumblr?

I have to say that I am impressed with Neo, she breaks the aura on the designated tank of Team RWBY with a single hit, and that hit is still strong enough to throw a woman a foot taller than her several meters away with enough strength that Yang is not only stunned but it also bounces off several meters to the abyss...

Really, this girl is the anthropomorphic personification of the Hypercompetent Sidequick Trope... I am pretty sure that Salem is mad that she did not manage to recruit her before, she would have made a much better, well EVERYTHING that Salem wanted, than Cinder (unless you want her to give a speech).

Besides that, I think that we Yang will reappear eventually as Loki did, but if she is dead-dead I am going to be quite mad that CRWBY decided to kill her off by throwing her to the abyss when not one, not two, not three, but FOUR of the other girls can fly.

For what it's worth, keep in mind that Yang's Aura was dangerously low given the past two days.

You suck the fun out of everything, don't you? Fun sucker. You must be great at parties.
My apologies but I find "The characters are dumb because they didn't do (Insert thing that wouldn't work)" to be annoying rather than fun.

Yeah but they didn't ask for there to be a giant void at all.
They asked him to create a central location to collection everyone "like the vaults" so chances are the vaults were built in whatever that void is.

This along with other things makes me think that RWBY's (assuming that more than one of the team fall) trip through the 'void' is going to be somehow important for the entire narrative. That whatever they encounter down there will have some part to play later on.
I feel like it's that and whatever Summers final mission was that holds the key to defeating Salem. We know what may have happened to her but not why she was off on that mission. I think she figured something out.

Alice all along
I don't know how many of you remember the Volume 2 days, but one of the early questions in regards to Neo was if she was the Cheshire Cat, and the response from CRWBY (I don't remember who), was Neo was not the Cheshire Cat, someone else was.

Guess what, Alice, the Cheshire Cat, and several other Wonderland characters have been right there on screen the entire time

If this is accurate it's some long term planning.

I'm inclined to buy it. This isn't the first time they've thrown long term foreshadowing at us.

Miles being sneaky
This was tweeted on the same day the Yellow trailer came out.

Speaking of possible long-term foreshadowing...

Oscar thoughts

I'm not at all a Rosegarden person because age gaps and all that, so I'm taking this post with a generous serving of salt, but there's something here, I think. Oscar as The Little Prince would track. It's probably a clincher if Fox becomes friends with Oscar or something.

Not a RG shipper either (Nuts and Dolts 4 lyfe), but Oscar does fit really well as the Little Prince, with Ozpin fulfilling the role of the airplane pilot. Heck, his updated outfit looks a lot like that one drawing of the Prince from the book
