RWBY Thread III: Time To Say Goodbye

Stop: So gotta few things that need to be said real quick.
so gotta few things that need to be said real quick.
We get a lot of reports from this thread. A lot of it is just a series of people yelling at each other over arguments that have been rehashed hundreds of times since the end of the recent Volume. And I get that the last Volume - and RWBY in general, really - has some controversial moments that people will want to discuss, argue about, debate, etc.

That's fine. We're not going to stop people from doing that, because that's literally what the point of the thread is. However, there's just a point where it gets to be a bit too much, and arguments about whether or not Ironwood was morally justified in his actions in the recent Volume, or if RWBY and her team were in the right for withholding information from Ironwood out of distrust, or whatever flavor of argument of the day descend into insulting other posters, expressing a demeaning attitude towards other's opinions, and just being overall unpleasant. That tends to happen a lot in this thread. We want it to stop happening in this thread.

So! As of now the thread is in a higher state of moderation. What that means is that any future infractions will result in a weeklong boot from the thread, and repeated offenders will likely be permanently removed. So please, everyone endeavor to actually respect the other's arguments, and even if you strongly disagree with them please stay civil and mindful when it comes to responding to others.

In addition, users should refrain from talking about off-site users in the thread. Bear in mind that this does not mean that you cannot continue to post tumblr posts, for example, that add onto the discussion in the thread, with the caveat that it's related to RWBY of course. But any objections to offsite users in the thread should be handled via PM, or they'll be treated as thread violations and infracted as such.

Going to have to get used to the different music. Kind of a different theme/tone then the last two Volumes.

Things are apparently going down in a big way and the Volume might end on a cliffie/downer (Protags having to retreat while Beacon/Vale is in flames etc).

Winter is apparently also a sword user but no sign of dust cartridges etc. It also seems that she and Qrow might not get along.

1:10 Hot Damn! Picture of Taiyang's team including Raven(Yang's mother), Qrow and Summer Rose(Ruby's mother).
Taiyang looks like an inverse rule 63 Yang, Raven looks like she hasn't aged a day (the mask is apparently something newer, Qrow apparently subscribed to the Yatsuhashi-style of weapons (AKA nearly as long as he is tall) and Summer Rose apparently liked white cloaks.
I wonder if thats because Monty or because this will be 'EVERYTHING GETS WORSE' the season.
Yes. Though I suspect it's more the latter than the former.

Also why is Qrow holding a sword.

Wasn't he meant to be the expert gunscythe wielder that trained Ruby/was known by Ozpin

He's either so badass that he's a legendary Scythe user when it's not even his main weapon, or it unfolds into a scythe. That shoots missiles. That shoots laser beams.

EDIT: And oh god, Summer was so adorable <3

Maybe he started with a sword and changed style sometimes during his career? Or maybe he's that kind of blademaster that's a master with everything that can cut people?

Or maybe his blade can transform into a scythe, because fuck logic.

Still, that photography confirms that Raven is the masked samouraï that saved Yang and Yang's mom, and that the woman in a white cloak seen in the "Red" trailer is indeed Summer.

You know, I was wondering why I wasn't a fan of this opening (rather then just how it doesn't fit in with the other two and how the grim trampled that Rose I thought was a tribute to Monty)... Was talking to a friend who made this observation while we were discussing.

The final part, with the four of them sitting in darkness... it feels like a Game Over scene.

It really does when I think about it in that context. The first two had the Ruby slashing part, almost to say the fight is still on, as if they've pressed continue. While the four in darkness just feels wrong, as if its the final season.

It's probably in an alt form. Crescent Rose has a sword mode too, but Ruby has only used it in the trailer.

There's some kind of mechanism in the hilt- if I had to guess, it looks like the handle would pivot around the gear and extend to form the scythe.

Also, obsessive-compulsive great people from the RWBY wiki already made an HD image of Summer from the opening, and damn, Ruby could be her clone!
Not sure if it's her knee we see poking out of the cloak or her weapon.

Also in the photography, Summer is rather withdrawn compared to the rest of the team, her pose don't says "leader" to me. She might had been the Blake of her team.

I don't know who between the three reminding members it could be, could be Raven, she seems to be slightly forward compared to the others.

EDIT: I just realized that Qrow's folded weapon on his back when facing Winter is a sword, so I guess that answer the question: his weapon is a sword, that can transform into an even bigger sword, that can probably transforms in a giant scythe. And I'm ready to bet there's a gun hidden somewhere inside it too.

EDIT 2: There's also a zoomed picture of Raven and Qrow:

I now know what Summer Rose looks like.
Cutie

Maybe I should write that fic...

Animation looks better, though.

Love it, I love everything its hinting at. Though my head canon that Tai is a Viking expy is ruined XD Seriously though, Grim climbing all over everything, big ass battles, potential huge changes with a side of drama (look at Ruby;s face when they are falling) and the hilarious Jaune sent spiralling off because he can't fly right, looks awesome. That final moment, wow, I get the impression things will be broken, bonds strained and friends separated.

The opening itself seems fine. The Summer/TaiYang/Qrow/Raven pic is fantastic, I loved it.

I hate the music. I just.. hate it. That surprised me, since I love almost all the music from RWBY.

I didn't like maybe three songs, total, from the first two soundtracks and the only other one I can say I HATE is Caffeine. I suppose that explains things, since they've got a similar style.

It started out strong and got really bad at the end.
It's probably just truncated in a weird place.

For how serious it all looked, let's remember that the Volume 2 trailer had Emerald, Mercury, and Cinder all fighting Team RWBY members, most of which did not happen, and Vale engulfed in flames, which also did not happen. Also not included, HALO jumps, and the like.

So, I'm not going to judge anything by the OP animation.

Personally I'm not expecting anything from this season besides some cool fight scenes.

Well, I do have one prediction. It'll probably be way better in the beginning than it will be near the end. First two seasons were like that imo.

Also I'm betting that Qrow's sword works similarly to Sparda from DMC 1. Monty did love his hackn'slash games...

EDIT: Having watched it a couple times the animation.... isn't that impressive. Look at teh scene where the hunters rush the wave of Grimm. wtf?

I mean, with the very opening lines being "Maybe it's red like roses, maybe it's the pool of blood." the minor tonality, and the visuals they're basically shouting from the rooftops that they're not going to be pulling any punches and this season's going to be rough.

That kind of tone was already present before with "red like roses" in the previous songs being a blatant metaphor for blood, with "Red Like Roses II" outright saying it.

The song felt a bit off at first but once I got into the rhythm I really liked it. I think my issue is that it almost felt like the song started in the middle.
