RWBY Thread III: Time To Say Goodbye

Stop: So gotta few things that need to be said real quick.
so gotta few things that need to be said real quick.
We get a lot of reports from this thread. A lot of it is just a series of people yelling at each other over arguments that have been rehashed hundreds of times since the end of the recent Volume. And I get that the last Volume - and RWBY in general, really - has some controversial moments that people will want to discuss, argue about, debate, etc.

That's fine. We're not going to stop people from doing that, because that's literally what the point of the thread is. However, there's just a point where it gets to be a bit too much, and arguments about whether or not Ironwood was morally justified in his actions in the recent Volume, or if RWBY and her team were in the right for withholding information from Ironwood out of distrust, or whatever flavor of argument of the day descend into insulting other posters, expressing a demeaning attitude towards other's opinions, and just being overall unpleasant. That tends to happen a lot in this thread. We want it to stop happening in this thread.

So! As of now the thread is in a higher state of moderation. What that means is that any future infractions will result in a weeklong boot from the thread, and repeated offenders will likely be permanently removed. So please, everyone endeavor to actually respect the other's arguments, and even if you strongly disagree with them please stay civil and mindful when it comes to responding to others.

In addition, users should refrain from talking about off-site users in the thread. Bear in mind that this does not mean that you cannot continue to post tumblr posts, for example, that add onto the discussion in the thread, with the caveat that it's related to RWBY of course. But any objections to offsite users in the thread should be handled via PM, or they'll be treated as thread violations and infracted as such.

That was the Communication Tower Weiss went to in episode 3 of volume 2. You know, the one basically any student could use.
are you assuming that the primary means of communication in all the kingdoms is not already treated as a military asset? also those are hunter students, they are equivalent to officer trainees

Well, certainly not in the long term no.

But in the interim, while they set up a more secure method?

But why not just run C&C from the flying battleship thing? They seem to be doing fine maintaining the forces they had on the ground already, and were still combat effective to boot.

But it isn't. If it were the primary method of communication, it would be in Vale, not on Beacon's campus. I'm not going to deny that it's important, but I don't think it's a military asset beyond the civilian communications network.

Personally, I think the virus is supposed to crash the network itself, preventing Vale from calling for help Or was, and the plan is now being altered. But that's just me.

...the comms tower isn't on Beacon's campus. Remember, that's where Ruby met up with Penny for the Robot Girl reveal.

You mean a comm tower should not on top of a cliff face that happens to be a military staging area?

If it's the primary method of communication, wouldn't you want it in a place where a majority of people could access it?

Relevant part bolded.

RWBY wiki said:
As the first part of Team RWBY's investigation, Weiss and Ruby Rose first visit the CCT tower at the Beacon Academy campus, in order to gather data from the Schnee Dust Company records

...where's that in the episode?

As in, where do they say it's on campus?

They don't explicitly say it. But going by the episode 'Dance Dance Infiltration', one can infer that it's near the Ballroom, given how quickly Cinder and Ruby were able to move from one location to the other, when going to Vale would generally require the use of an airship.

you don't need to be at the tower to access it, Weiss tells rubes that they could have just gone to the library.

....The library is also at Beacon Academy. That says nothing about the rest of Vale outside of the campus

But can it cover the entire city?

Because of the Breech, people will be scared. Scared people attract more and more Grimm.

Knowing this, Ironwood would likely want a large, visible sign that Vale is protected, and a robot army deployed throughout the city provides that, if nothing else.

Also, if it was supposed to do that, thwn why did they have all the men and material on the train? It was excessive if the train was just supposed to be a bomb/ram. And if it was a smuggling run with the Grimm as cover, how were they supposed to get it off before the giant horde of Grimm following then showed up?
I always assume the plan, at least what Cinder told the WF was to ram the train into the city then charge in ahead of the Grim with mech suits and guns glazing, but to either go and protect Faunus neighbourhoods or attack far away areas of the city while Atlas tried to contain the explosion of Grim.

As to the Tower, Cinder may have just been putting something into screw with phones and the like (as we saw Ruby struggling to call anyone) but Ironwood seemed concerned, so its possible the communication tower was connected to his ship and by proxy his robots.

I'm pretty sure the problem was a bad signal due to her location, not a virus. Remember, she was in Mountain Glenn while the train was still being prepared, and a communications-wrecking virus would have maximum effect if it was activated during a time of crisis. Activating it before they cause an emergency would just get the military alert as they deal with it and investigate (communications are super important for the military).

Fair points there.

So, Yang didn't look happy to see Mommy... at least not after hearing her speak.

I'm pretty sure Yang and I were both thinking, "Bitch, the FIRST DAMNED WORDS out of your mouth should have been 'I'm sorry'!"

Raven doesn't seem the least bit apologetic or ashamed of her absence. She only looks amused.

No, I'm talking about the stinger at the end of the second season.

Yang's expression is open, curious, guileless, and awed as this mysterious figure pulls off her mask.

Yang's expression grows more and more closed and angry after the reveal, when it becomes clear that this figure IS her mother, and that she doesn't seem the least bit repentant.
However it looked like a dream sequence and I don't think RT said Raven was her mother. She could be a half-sister like Ruby (highly unlikely, cause I'm in the Mother camp).

Unfortunately we won't get any resolution of that stinger until mid-season/end of season.

Her name is given as Raven Branwyn!

Qrow's last name is Branwyn!

Yang outright says that both of her mothers were on a team with her father and Qrow. Qrow is Yang's biological uncle.
