RWBY Thread III: Time To Say Goodbye

Stop: So gotta few things that need to be said real quick.
so gotta few things that need to be said real quick.
We get a lot of reports from this thread. A lot of it is just a series of people yelling at each other over arguments that have been rehashed hundreds of times since the end of the recent Volume. And I get that the last Volume - and RWBY in general, really - has some controversial moments that people will want to discuss, argue about, debate, etc.

That's fine. We're not going to stop people from doing that, because that's literally what the point of the thread is. However, there's just a point where it gets to be a bit too much, and arguments about whether or not Ironwood was morally justified in his actions in the recent Volume, or if RWBY and her team were in the right for withholding information from Ironwood out of distrust, or whatever flavor of argument of the day descend into insulting other posters, expressing a demeaning attitude towards other's opinions, and just being overall unpleasant. That tends to happen a lot in this thread. We want it to stop happening in this thread.

So! As of now the thread is in a higher state of moderation. What that means is that any future infractions will result in a weeklong boot from the thread, and repeated offenders will likely be permanently removed. So please, everyone endeavor to actually respect the other's arguments, and even if you strongly disagree with them please stay civil and mindful when it comes to responding to others.

In addition, users should refrain from talking about off-site users in the thread. Bear in mind that this does not mean that you cannot continue to post tumblr posts, for example, that add onto the discussion in the thread, with the caveat that it's related to RWBY of course. But any objections to offsite users in the thread should be handled via PM, or they'll be treated as thread violations and infracted as such.

And the flirting, don't forget the flirting. And teasing. And abusing Junior (Volume 2, sure, but still)
... Beyond her little interaction with Junior how often does she actually flirt with anyone, or tease in a way that is 'fanservicy'?
Her mere existence.

That or her puns.
Again, barring her outfit I don't really get it, or I 'could' see it if I squinted a bit, but what I'd see would be speaking of an entirely different attitude rather than fanservice.

Tis was a jest but yeah same here, I guess it's because no one else is fanservicey at all so...

She gets it by default? That does appear to be the case in fanfics and fan art a lot of the time.

She's the most aggressive and outgoing, and she's got both the most revealing outfit and the most well-developed figure in the main cast. Ergo, she's the designated fanservice character.
Put that way, she's a lot like Tifa.

I have no idea what you two are arguing about, I just anted to break the Chain of you repeating ya selfs. :p

Here's a different subject:

While Ozpin as the big good ancient badass is all fine and cool am I the only one a little disappointed he's not a more normal Hunter who just got his job at Beacon? Because if he was then that would mean he and Roman could have an epic cane fight, and I would love to see that!

I hope I haven't brought this up before.

Well off the top of my head, there's the flirting with Junior in the Yellow trailer, her ogling the topless male students in episode 3, her flirting again with Junior in season 2, her mention that she's gonna wear a dress for the dance that will "make spin all the boys head", her general cocky and slightly teasing attitude when she dominates a fight, case in point:

And of course her more revealing attire compared to the rest of her team.

She also threatened to crush his balls, I think that kind of counters the flirt/fanservice aspect of it, well for most people anyway. Ogling is not the same as flirting, when did she flirt with him in S2?She said he owed her a drink then literally dragged him to the bar, it seemed more companionable or jocular than flirty but maybe that is just me. Her dress seemed pretty normal all things considered so I'm not sure it counts. Is winking innately flirty? Maybe this is a cultural or personal thing, I can see it as flirty but I can see it as being equally cocky, sneaky, or even just friendly.

Have we seen any evidence that Ozpin is an ancient badass? Imma have to watch the Breach episode again I suppose, but off the top of my head it's entirely possible that he's a normal guy putting on a big act as befits his position (People expect him to have the answers, so he kinda wings it and it works out)

While I love this idea its been noted that Ozpin has 'experience' more than any other cast member currently present by Glynda, and he's the only character without a colour name implying he's old and I think Monty mentioned he was incredibly powerful, and I think a World of Remnant video hinted he'd become something more than human due to how far he'd developed his Aura.

I would say it's a mix of all that: she's cocky, sneaky, sometimes simply cool and friendly, other times teasing just for the hell of it or to get an opening to attack, and sometimes she's just enjoying the view of the other boys' naked torso.

And since she's the only character with that kind of personality, that stands out much more, which is why she's considered as the "Ms Fanservice", but done well: she's not reduced to T&A and revealing outfits, it's just one of the facets of her personality, and not even the more important and more prominent one, as she has other facets much more interesting and highlighted : cool and supportive big sister, loyal friend, determined woman in finding her disappeared mother, kickass fighter. That's what makes her such an interesting and compelling character.

I have to ask, when has she used her appearance of flirting/teasing or anything like that to get an opening, did I miss it?

I suppose for me 'ms fanservice' both has too many negative connotations that I cannot really see it ever being applied positively but also that I don't necessarily see these traits as being a form of fanservice.

Admittedly most of the cast are in school, so him having more 'experience' is hardly surprising.

It did? Man, I'm going to have to see those videos again. I must have gotten distracted by the filler with the occasional spot of new information there was in them.

Still, with stuff like this, and Glynda's magic reset button, and all the crazy stuff we've seen in the show, someone remind me why Humanity is still confined to four theoretically small kingdoms? (Huntsmen are OP Hax. And the human forces we see don't seem weak or incompetent enough to completely offset that.) Yeah, we heard about how Mountain Glenn bought it, but that, combined with the Breach episode, has just really reduced my appreciation of the threat of the Grimm. So, I guess the true villains must be humanity themselves, or else the soulless evil abominations never would have gotten this far in the first place. I mean hell, they managed to fight a world war of sorts (Or two) while under siege by Grimm.

Hopefully Volume 3 will restore the apparent threat level we hear, to what we actually see.
