RWBY Thread III: Time To Say Goodbye

Stop: So gotta few things that need to be said real quick.
so gotta few things that need to be said real quick.
We get a lot of reports from this thread. A lot of it is just a series of people yelling at each other over arguments that have been rehashed hundreds of times since the end of the recent Volume. And I get that the last Volume - and RWBY in general, really - has some controversial moments that people will want to discuss, argue about, debate, etc.

That's fine. We're not going to stop people from doing that, because that's literally what the point of the thread is. However, there's just a point where it gets to be a bit too much, and arguments about whether or not Ironwood was morally justified in his actions in the recent Volume, or if RWBY and her team were in the right for withholding information from Ironwood out of distrust, or whatever flavor of argument of the day descend into insulting other posters, expressing a demeaning attitude towards other's opinions, and just being overall unpleasant. That tends to happen a lot in this thread. We want it to stop happening in this thread.

So! As of now the thread is in a higher state of moderation. What that means is that any future infractions will result in a weeklong boot from the thread, and repeated offenders will likely be permanently removed. So please, everyone endeavor to actually respect the other's arguments, and even if you strongly disagree with them please stay civil and mindful when it comes to responding to others.

In addition, users should refrain from talking about off-site users in the thread. Bear in mind that this does not mean that you cannot continue to post tumblr posts, for example, that add onto the discussion in the thread, with the caveat that it's related to RWBY of course. But any objections to offsite users in the thread should be handled via PM, or they'll be treated as thread violations and infracted as such.

This means fights come down to bias over anything else.
Well, that's your opinion.

If'd you instead tried to argue that Gaara exists in a shounen world where everyone fights in bullet-time that Toph had no chance to react to, I might have conceded the point. But arguing that Toph can't control sand from another world?

Or maybe that Jean Grey and Luke Skywalker couldn't use telekinesis on the same object at once?

They didn't.

Besides which, didn't they have Toph win that fight?
That's what I thought, I was wondering what part of the statement bade them think they did though.

No idea, I've watched exactly two death battles, one I enjoyed for novelty value and one I hated that more or less soured me to the series... Childish? Perhaps.

This can result in mutually incompatible systems being pitted against each other requiring some form of arbitration to determine how they interact.

I was being fair by pointing out the reality of the situation and not taking sides (as you'll notice I made no judgement on how it should work and merely described the match-up). There is no guide to determine how Earthbending interacts with Gaara's chakra-based sand control; thus someone, when plotting out that fight, had to arbitrate how they interact for that fight. That arbitration ultimately comes down to what the specific arbiter thinks in logical; thus the result of the arbitration is formed from the arbiter's bias.

Thus it's not "my opinion", any more than your post is "your opinion" about what I actually said.

Again, is anyone seriously going to argue that Jean Grey's mutant-telekinesis and Luke Skywalker's Force-telekinesis are going to somehow interfere with each other?

If Gaara was up against another sand-manipulating ninja, they could fight over control of the same sand. Same with Toph if she was up against another Earthbender.

Why not simply go ahead and assume that magical telekinesis is magical telekinesis, and the only interaction is "who is exerting the greater force upon the substance in question"?

I could be misunderstanding your point, but who is going to split hairs on this example or any example like it?

Random dude: "And who's got your back?"

(Wiess Glyph Kick)

Ruby: My BFF.

Wiess: No. (Leaves to go fight.)

Ruby: Yesss

Kinda disappointed that Yang was getting her ass kicked, but she clearly isn't the best fighter.

Actually I don't think Yang is getting her ass kicked, we only say a small portion of the fight and from what I could tell she was doing alright.

I thought Yang was doing fairly well at the start but then her opponent was turning things around.

I'm half expecting that pink haired dude to have a thing with Yang given the mopey face he pulled. Also, dude, you have Aura bust out of there!

Also, Ruby has new bullet types, wooh!

From what we see, she was losing before Ruby helped and handed Yang a hostage.

We're only seeing a small part of the battle, dude. She could turn things around.

If Ruby didn't do anything, I kinda doubt it. Besides, Ruby is now giving fire support to cover Yang.

Yang was pretty shaky on that ice from what we see, really easy to slip on from what we see of Blake vs. Hoverboard girl.

I thought pinky's face expression told me he realized he was now a potential hostage, or was going to be used as a meat shield.

Also, new bullet types ftw!
Does Ruby count as a magical girl? Because if she does...

Aura = Supernatural

So, yes? So does Yang, Blake, and every female character we have seen thus far.

But yes, Ruby seemingly has the power of befriending. And it is glorious.

Anyway, who do you guys think is going to win in the deathbattle?

(It's Yang vs. Tifa.)

If the Link Vs. Cloud is anything to go by, along with them Deathbattle loving Yang's character.

But, ignoring any bia's, let's keep in mind that Monty himself had a very, very high opinion of Tifa if DeadFantasy is anything to go by, granted she lost that fight as well.

Yes! (That last bit)

Weirded out blue hair was hurt by a fall on the ice though, but otherwise awesome.
A fall on the tailbone, which hurts like a bitch, that's why everyone was cringing.

As for Yang, remember that her fights tends to not really start until her Semblance starts to kick in, so until we see the red eyes the true fight didn't began yet, and seeing Arslan's fighting style (she definitively isn't the "dodge & counter" type of fighter Neo is), it will happen quickly.

Just watched the clip... I was right! Some Faunus did move to Menagerie! Or it's Vacuo, but it seemed so...open compared to a city/kingdom, and definitely some Australia expy. And since Australia was a penal colony, Menagerie makes sense to be one, right?

In any case, it's nice to see more Faunus. It seems that for most of them their Faunus traits show via animal ears or horns, Sun seems to be an exception so far. (and a random WF guard with boar tusks IIRC)

Also I'm the only one who find the punch Arslan give to Yang at 1:02 to be weirdly animated? With her apparently gliding to Yang and that anime like "action background"?

One things for sure, Faunus do seem to only have mammalian traits and nothing else. This could be a case of RT doing research and understanding the small similarities all mammals have... or the more likely option that scale skins and wings are dang hard to animate, and they stuck with mammals.

...I have got to slow down my SF Debris watching, that sounded like Chuck in my head.
