RWBY Thread III: Time To Say Goodbye

Stop: So gotta few things that need to be said real quick.
so gotta few things that need to be said real quick.
We get a lot of reports from this thread. A lot of it is just a series of people yelling at each other over arguments that have been rehashed hundreds of times since the end of the recent Volume. And I get that the last Volume - and RWBY in general, really - has some controversial moments that people will want to discuss, argue about, debate, etc.

That's fine. We're not going to stop people from doing that, because that's literally what the point of the thread is. However, there's just a point where it gets to be a bit too much, and arguments about whether or not Ironwood was morally justified in his actions in the recent Volume, or if RWBY and her team were in the right for withholding information from Ironwood out of distrust, or whatever flavor of argument of the day descend into insulting other posters, expressing a demeaning attitude towards other's opinions, and just being overall unpleasant. That tends to happen a lot in this thread. We want it to stop happening in this thread.

So! As of now the thread is in a higher state of moderation. What that means is that any future infractions will result in a weeklong boot from the thread, and repeated offenders will likely be permanently removed. So please, everyone endeavor to actually respect the other's arguments, and even if you strongly disagree with them please stay civil and mindful when it comes to responding to others.

In addition, users should refrain from talking about off-site users in the thread. Bear in mind that this does not mean that you cannot continue to post tumblr posts, for example, that add onto the discussion in the thread, with the caveat that it's related to RWBY of course. But any objections to offsite users in the thread should be handled via PM, or they'll be treated as thread violations and infracted as such.

Myes because obviously whether this dude can take criticism or not is way more important then people harassing other people because they happen to share a name with him.

Quite frankly this is getting ridiculous. The guy could be a douche for all i know but your reaction is mystifying.
Sorry, I didn't want to phrase it like I'm trying to defend the harassment, whether it was the right or wrong target for it. I'm more wishing that we could have better, clearer and saner spokespeople for any critics that RT listens to.
Though if Fatman is to be believed, the only voices they hear are those that keep clamoring for more of their favorite characters.

No, that's why I said "saner". And probably better spelled, too.
To make it worse, I'm pretty sure that tweet Luna's highlighted was made at the end of a chain of tweets bitching about a list of Cinemasins-esque plotholes.
Sorry should have made it clearer, I was referring more to the "I refuse to listen to criticism if it isn't worded as praise." line than the comment on Oghabi's tweet.

>Dumb and wrong.

>To quote The Dude: That's just like, your opinion man.
>It also showed up in volume 3 and the Adam Short. If you don't pay attention then that's your problem.
Wait, what? What does that have have to do with anything I said? And what did you even say? Are you saying that you pirate free shows? The fuck is wrong with you?

How about we tone it down on the incivility a notch, hm? 25 points for violation of Rule 3, along with the standard 3-day threadban.
Once again RWBY proves how stupid it is as a show and how much it sucks. Volume once again is going nowhere, the sexism is really apparent e.g. "Get away from my man", double standards abounding such as the only lgbt people are lesbians and the poor fight scenes.

How
Does this show still exist?6

Dropping in a deliberately inflammatory post like this without actual thought is in violation of Rule 4. 25 points and three days out of the thread.

Wait, so Poarter's parachutes are classified as disruptive, but Seven's constant nitpick posts repeatedly making him the center of conversation aren't?

Anyways, when /rwbyg/ watched Episode 12, a lot of them were, in between saying Adam was never going to die because RoosterTeeth, saying that they were probably gonna have Sapphire or Terra die in the monster attack because it would be "shocking" and/or give Luna more motivation/attention. I'm doubting that they'll be so stupid that they'll do something that EVEN TVTROPES discorages ("Bury Your Gays"), but I have realized that they still have Pyrrha's mom to have that happen to.

So, you think they'll kill off any of the three?

If they wanna be dark, edgy, and go all "LOL, PREPARE TO BE HARD MEN MAKING HARD CHOICES!", then yeah.

But given how the last time something like this happened, where a mass of Grimm just up and invade a city on the penultimate episode*, it got immediately resolved in the next episode, so I doubt they'll commit.

But we'll see. Finale's tomorrow and allegedly it's gonna have a bigger plot twist than Lost Fable.

* = As in the episode before the finale, not a couple of episodes prior, so Beacon doesn't count.

Wonder what the deus ex machina will be this time. right now they have to not only kill the Kaiju but also several hundred sphinxes or whatever in one 25 minute episode

I mean if they had say, a giant robot with a super powerful Dust cannon on one arm this wouldn't be as much of an issue... Wonder where they could get such a thing?

The only thing that could count as surprising would be bringing in Taiyang, and that's not what passes for being called a "twist". But then this is the guy who thinks exposition counts as a "plot bomb", so whatever.

They'll definitely be using Expecto Patronum to resolve this attack, but there's still the "mystery" of whether it'll be by Ruby or by Maria (who will likely be killed off as she does so)

.....................Do you think Maria is going to just regrow her eyes?

Because that's the only way she would be able to use her powers again.

Since, y'know, they were cut out.......

They said next episode would be super shocking or whatever. What's more surprising than a blind person suddenly regrowing their eyes to use their superpower? They could always go the cliche'd route of "the eyes are just cosmetic; they don't need eyes to use the power" or something.

Good question. I mean, they did have a perfectly functional giant Dust cannon but it was just destroyed, and idk if the base has a spare.

'Sides, given a single hunter (Weiss) could effortlessly negate the blast, clearly it's not all that strong so even if it was functional I doubt it would do much good.

Never underestimate the power of cliche, Slater.

Though on the subject of "surprise", yet another post from 4chan was that instead of Adam surviving and seeing Cinder in the teaser, we're instead gonna see Cinder find his sword, just so it can be left ambiguous that he survived and generate maximum traffic for the show.

The cliche of just randomly being able to regrow eyes?

Please, that's a nonsense prediction based on nothing. Although given that you think the Levithan looks like a Beowulf.....somehow maybe it's just on brand.

Speaking of which:

Oh god Ruby's going to give another damned speech, isn't she. The last 5 or so speeches this volume have been lame and contradictory, and this will probably follow that trend. I wish Ruby spent her time actually being a good team leader instead of speechifying everything, because she's clearly no good at it.

Lemme guess: she'll address all of the city which will somehow motivate them all and they will pull a miracle out of their ass, like everyone and their mother suddenly has combat training or the buildings turn into cannons or something asinine like that.

Because he's giving a lot more context than "LOL IT'S SHIT!"
Does it really count as "context" if he makes claims that are flat out wrong often? We have to correct him every week because without fail he makes claims that are objectively incorrect.

He said, acting like the fairytale references have ever actually mattered in any meaningful way.

Your forgetting the Nevermore. A rather blatant and large omission.

...........Yang literally spends V4 training with Tai and learns to not use her Semblance as a crutch.

Something explicitly "shown not told" afterwards by having her go through multiple fights in both V5 and V6 without having used it once.

Wow it couldn't be more clear that you didn't actually watch the episode just got gifs.

Jaune isn't the only one of the team who sees the statue and mourns her there. So do Ren and Nora. And all three compare her going into a fight she knew she would probably die in as a contrast to there own situation with Salem. Coming to the conclusion that just like her they can't walk away despite the odds.

Like come on. That post isn't even an unflattering read of events, it's just a hot take that doesn't match up with what happens not 2 minutes later

Uh, not really. Like the entire point of the Lost Fable is that Salem wasn't born evil, and Ozpin wasn't born a manipulator. Extreme circumstances and tragic choices pushed them both there.

To go further, Mercury and Emerald both come from broken lives with Merc canonically being abused very badly.

Ilia wasn't born somebody willing to kill. It was ignited by her parents death. And likewise found her way back to being good.

Qrow wasn't born a drunk life just made it an "easy option"

Leo wasn't born a coward.

Weiss wasn't born to have bigoted beliefs at first, and her mother wasn't born to be a shut in alcoholic either.

Even the God of Destruction is not capital E evil.

The fact the pretty thoroughly evil people like Adam and Cinder exist, along with the opposite in Ruby, does not in anyway say the show is telling you that as a prevailing message. The fact that the prevailing evil threat in the show very much did not start out that way should make that blindingly obvious.

(Also Ruby leaving Yang in her now functional father's care is not at all the same as becoming a shut down belligerent drunk. What a ridiculous comparison, that's not even getting into the fact that the first thing she did when she saw Yang again was apologize for it.)

And to go further, one last thing. Alcoholism pre V6 didn't stop Qrow from being fully functional when he needed to be. The fact that it finally is is why Ruby et all are reacting differently to it. Thats not a 180, its the context changing.

It hampers actual discussion when time has to be set aside each week to remind him about something like the giant monsters they fought in V4 and V1 only to have him boldly declare they don't count for some arbitrary reason to save face. Rinse and repeat every episode.
