RWBY Thread III: Time To Say Goodbye

Stop: So gotta few things that need to be said real quick.
so gotta few things that need to be said real quick.
We get a lot of reports from this thread. A lot of it is just a series of people yelling at each other over arguments that have been rehashed hundreds of times since the end of the recent Volume. And I get that the last Volume - and RWBY in general, really - has some controversial moments that people will want to discuss, argue about, debate, etc.

That's fine. We're not going to stop people from doing that, because that's literally what the point of the thread is. However, there's just a point where it gets to be a bit too much, and arguments about whether or not Ironwood was morally justified in his actions in the recent Volume, or if RWBY and her team were in the right for withholding information from Ironwood out of distrust, or whatever flavor of argument of the day descend into insulting other posters, expressing a demeaning attitude towards other's opinions, and just being overall unpleasant. That tends to happen a lot in this thread. We want it to stop happening in this thread.

So! As of now the thread is in a higher state of moderation. What that means is that any future infractions will result in a weeklong boot from the thread, and repeated offenders will likely be permanently removed. So please, everyone endeavor to actually respect the other's arguments, and even if you strongly disagree with them please stay civil and mindful when it comes to responding to others.

In addition, users should refrain from talking about off-site users in the thread. Bear in mind that this does not mean that you cannot continue to post tumblr posts, for example, that add onto the discussion in the thread, with the caveat that it's related to RWBY of course. But any objections to offsite users in the thread should be handled via PM, or they'll be treated as thread violations and infracted as such.

Actually weird question but how many members of the council of Evil/Salems Organization are female? Cause I can understand Cinder getting the Fall Maiden powers but what are they going to do with the other maidens once captured I suppose they could lock them up but that leaves three ultra powerful women pissed off planning escape and such well unless medical induced comas are possible or make them brain dead so they are technically "Alive". Can't kill them since that would just transfer the power to someone else unless they are hoping to execute there plans before the "New" maidens are fully trained in there powers , we don't know if Salem can use those powers as well and unless more then one maiden powers can be put into a vessel say Cinder who would then become the "All Seasons" Maiden just what do they have planned for them?

Well considering that their plan A a while back was to forcefully transfer a Maiden's power into Cinder, who's to say they aren't simply intending her make her the Maiden of all the Seasons?

And then Salem kills her and assumes all the Maiden powers for herself for all eternity.
Do we even know if Salem can hold the Maiden powers in her at all? Cause if that was the plan why not just kill Cinder right there in her weakened state and claim them for herself? Maybe due to Salems apparent inhuman nature she doesn't qualify or that the powers won't go near her. Just raises more questions about Salem and what the hell she is.

Because then she'd have to go and find another surrogate or three that are strong, smart, and driven enough to get the other Maidens' powers. She clearly can't go out hunting herslef and kidnapping leaves chances for escape or the Ozluminati to mount a rescue or relocation. Cinder's hurt, sure, but hurts can be healed and she's proven willing and able to go as far as potentially destroying a kingdom.

As for whether Salem can take on the Maiden Powers herself, who knows. I'm spitballing.

If Cinder is no longer capable of taking the rest of the maiden mantles onto herself, Emerald is a decent backup plan.

Something unsettles me about how caring and patient Emerald is with Cinder, despite being treated like crap and getting slapped by her once.

I always just figured Cinder was abusive and manipulative "You'll never go hungry again" - "Thank you" accompanied by "(Slap!) Don't forget your place".

Cinder is down inthe dumps yesss. Also holy crap the Grimm spawning scene and Salem's entry. On Cinder's lackeys I figure Merc will be the one more likely to break away first considering he is the least loyal among the 2. So we got 3 new baddies, the crazy Tyrian who fought Ruby in the V4 intro and hints to have fought Silver-Eyed people before (I expect subversion that it's not Summer) and is ordered to assassinate her, moustache guy Dr.Watts who's mocking Cindy which can come back to bite him. Hazel the stoic one is the WF enforcer. Heh, Sienna Khan=Shere Khan.

Qrow is following RNJR huh per the opening, and seems to be Raven? Hope she and Pops Schnee aren't the rest of Salem's team (WTCH right now), if that happens could Raven be double-agent? Yang is being trained by Taiyang, hope both could get spelunking across Remnant following Ruby to get her home or help her (after Tai have words with her and 'words' with Qrow). The Adam v Blake scene in the intro is derpy :lol.

Ruby is indeed a much fiercer fighter. She can use her semblance to carry others too. On Jaune, I like the fact that RT is portraying him as the tactician, with him noticing the Geist blocking attacks to its face and making a plan. Also the fact he can't articulate it well since that is a skill he needs to learn (oh dork knight). Still seems Butt Monkey and not shown well in his tactic role since his plan though somewhat clever is a bit basic, if RT want to show he deserves the tactician role he needs better showing, and I want Ruby to have the tactical advisor role be shown to not waste her leadership skills. Per V4 intro his combat skills may be around to a bit above CRDL now? Tho probably still below SSSN, which is fine since I want him to be the sort-of Sokka of RNJR (the latter more badass but still weakest in the team Sokka that is).

However, leaving your weapons behind? No borrowing spare weapons no matter how crap they are? C'mon Jaune, and RNR for not reminding him. The JNRR and RNJR debate really shows that Ren can be as silly as Nora, he's just quieter. On Nora, none of them thought to bring taser to juice her Semblance up, parts and repair concerns? Magnhild is also a sorta jetpack now.

Ruby's mean jokes actually shows when she's with people she's comfortable with e.g. Weiss, Yang, & now Jaune though I expected a 'o crap sorry' moment for the Pumpkin Pete thing heh (tying it to Pyrrha and all) but that'll kill the mood. That upgrade to Jaune with Pyrrha's armaments...

Also a glimpse on Weiss after her being mentioned and making Ruby miss team RWBY. The Glyph in the V4 intro she made is HUEG. Also good butler may be part of her keeping her sanity being cooped up while her team scatters across Remnant. Was that a younger brother/relative of Weiss in the intro.

The other faunus hugging Blake in the intro is probably her family, but are they her parents? Are they WF or ex-WF that Blake can even join up to the rmovement turned terrorist organization? It maybe just be me but Sun's abs is missing int he intro. The rest of SSSN I theorize will be meeting RNJR in Mistral. Hah Blake and Sun is stealing Scarlet' Pirate schtick

Also Farmer Boy is Compost King. Believe.

So does anyone else think Torchwick might have Pacific Rim'd his way out of the grimm that supposedly ate him? He was swallowed whole with his weapon.

Well, watching s4e1 right now and first thoughts . . . finally the shows production quality is starting to look presentable

Edit : I mean seriously. The environments were well realized. The animation was reasonable. Camera shots were good. Jaune wasn't annoying. And the Villains were appropriately cryptic while giving us some, hopefully useful hints.

Or, as she says, she knows what the powers can bring her but doesn't want the weaknesses which, apparently, come with them.

Do we actually know it's (overtly) abusive? Cinder is almost certainly using some sort of manipulation to make Emerald more compliant. But a single slap, possibly administered with reason, to a teenager, ain't exactly the stuff of deep rift generating trauma.

Although the vestigial Yuri lobe of my writer's brain is wondering if the slap wasn't because of how friendly Emerald can be.

Cinder slapped Emerald because she didn't want to team up with Merc and given Cinder holds a position of power and authority over Emerald and the language she used I'm pretty sure it indeed would count as abuse. Add in that what they decide to show is important, meaning if the slap was some meaningless thing Cinder had never done before, never did again and was not meant to demonstrate or represent anything about their dynamic why include it? Also 'with reason' really?

Uh, we are talking about RWBY here. The show famous for a third season full of scenes of Cinder muttering non commitally about her evil plans. And a first season that wasted like a 3rd of its runtime on Jaune being bullied. :p

You're probably right that it's at least somewhat important. But there are leves of abuse. It seems more likely to me that Cinder was laying down exactly what there relationship actually was.

Edit :

Also, my GOD!

His hoody! It really was there the entire time!

I do agree the writing takes a downward turn whenever it comes to Jaune, otherwise though I don't feel they utilised Cinder poorly, she spent three seasons being vague, but also doing stuff, arranging cats paws and gathering info that we only got to see bits and pieces of until it all culminated in the finale.

I will be honest when I say I do not see the difference, apologies if I seem rude but this is a subject I tend to be rather... easily frustrated on, even if she doesn't slap Emerald all the time, the fact she was willing to, to make a point shows its an unhealthy and damaging relationship. That is to say, just because Emerald didn't get slapped a lot, that doesn't mean Cinder wouldn't be willing to, it just means Emerald has avoided pissing her off.

Long Haired Cinder: Ew.

Short Haired Cinder: MUST PROTECT AT ALL COSTS. so cute~! ahh fuck im turning into woolie.

Cortana is an awesome boss, praise based AI Overlord.

Hazel reminds me of General Jaeger from Valkyria Chronicles, except a hell lot less suave.

Crazy Axe Laughing Man honestly gave me quite the chuckle for how over the top he was. Honestly he seems like a guy who would fuck over everyone's plan just for a laugh. My headcanon for this season is that all he does is just constantly heckle Cinder with bad eye puns.

Have I mentioned how adorable Cinder is? She is very cute.

ROCK 'EM SOCK 'EM GIANT GOLEM

The giant golem honestly is a freaking cool ass boss, I so wouldn't mind fighting it in a RPG.

Boss strat reminds me of that bishop thingy in Kingdom Heart 1: Destroy all the limbs and then go for the body. (Technically you can just bum rush the body but it's easier to do destroy the limbs first.)

Jaune has no weapons, wtf man. At least give him a gun or something. Or a scouter of some sort iunno.

Not sure if the cast making comments mid plan was meant to be a joke or not.

Ren's fighting style remains cool as ever. LET'S BEYBLLAAAAADEEEEEE DIE DIE DIE

Nora/Ruby team attack was a bit meh because the impact wasn't there, like if they slow mo-ed it and showed electricity weaving in out of the golem as it slowly disintergrated would've been fucking awesome. Honestly I think that was the major issue with the fight, no impact/they didn't sell it well enough.

Also lightning hammer attacks, fucking finally.

That blacksmith is hot you cannot deny it. His voice is good too.

Ruby continues to be a national treasure.

Jaune's upgrades, sentimentality aside looks...like a downgrade? He looks less armored, I mean I know he barely wears armor to begin with but still. Sadly the sword is still just a sword come on man at least add a gauss cannon to it.

Watch as Vol. 4 mainly consists of RNJR getting lost and caught up in a billion shenanigans. Meanwhile Crazy Axe Man has the hardest of times keeping up with them as they wander around aimlessly and constantly thwarting his schemes by sheer accident. Salem freaks the fuck out, thinking this is the true tactical geniusTM of Jaune Arc. Cinder continues to moe it up. Yang starts up a new organization, Hunters Sans Frontieres. Blake loses sight of her goals and begins to search for the One Piece. Meanwhile Weiss finds out her summon only came about due to her great great uncle being Grimmified, this causes her father's summon to start choking the fuck out of him. Weiss only has 30 days to (begrudgingly) save her father, and thus SchneeDust Crusaders begins!
