RWBY Thread III: Time To Say Goodbye

Stop: So gotta few things that need to be said real quick.
so gotta few things that need to be said real quick.
We get a lot of reports from this thread. A lot of it is just a series of people yelling at each other over arguments that have been rehashed hundreds of times since the end of the recent Volume. And I get that the last Volume - and RWBY in general, really - has some controversial moments that people will want to discuss, argue about, debate, etc.

That's fine. We're not going to stop people from doing that, because that's literally what the point of the thread is. However, there's just a point where it gets to be a bit too much, and arguments about whether or not Ironwood was morally justified in his actions in the recent Volume, or if RWBY and her team were in the right for withholding information from Ironwood out of distrust, or whatever flavor of argument of the day descend into insulting other posters, expressing a demeaning attitude towards other's opinions, and just being overall unpleasant. That tends to happen a lot in this thread. We want it to stop happening in this thread.

So! As of now the thread is in a higher state of moderation. What that means is that any future infractions will result in a weeklong boot from the thread, and repeated offenders will likely be permanently removed. So please, everyone endeavor to actually respect the other's arguments, and even if you strongly disagree with them please stay civil and mindful when it comes to responding to others.

In addition, users should refrain from talking about off-site users in the thread. Bear in mind that this does not mean that you cannot continue to post tumblr posts, for example, that add onto the discussion in the thread, with the caveat that it's related to RWBY of course. But any objections to offsite users in the thread should be handled via PM, or they'll be treated as thread violations and infracted as such.

RWBY Chibi updated, RWBY put on a play, it went about as well as can be expected :)
Oh gosh Ozpin narrates!
Haha Red's grandmother XD
Yang scene stealing queen.
Poor Blake
Wow Zwei is good with commands.
Well now we know why Port's weapon has two axe blades.... the answer clears nothing up.
Zwei is super fluid and adorable, everyone fleeing was great.
Oh and Jaune, Sun and Neptune did some stuff, the latter two being trolls.

I agree with Yang, Little Red Riding Hood is a total Mary Sue, and is basically Ruby's idealized version of herself.

And that third part, once again from Owls.

EDIT: Complete trailer found:

We obviously all saw this weeks ago, but I just found this HD recording from the panel, and it's amazing being able to properly see the improvements they've made in the animation. Seriously, the trailer's gorgeous. I can't wait until Rooster Teeth properly uploads the trailer to YouTube so we can really take it in.

Seems to have more of cel-shaded look than the previous material, which is nice as it compensates for RWBY's relatively low resolution CGI. Also Ruby seems to have drastically improved her control over her semblance.

There has been a time skip of what was it 6-8 months given that they have been travelling and fighting all that time I would expect her to have improved.

On the one hand: Cool, it shows that some good amount of time has passed.

On the other hand: Fuck. The people who wank her semblance are going to cream themselves.

Wow, season 4 looks much more three dimensional than the previous seasons, it seems like they decided to change perspectives and field of views.

I like the effects on the Grimm, along with the fact that they've gotten clearly smarter.
I like the shadow effects and eye-glowing, but I'm not really a fan of the light-trails coming from the eyes. I might like them if they were made much shorter in both duration and physical length, but as it stands they just seem silly to me.

RWBY Chibi is up!
Ren is so considerate :)

Blake is being driven to paranoia! Then again with Zwei's wink... Well its not paranoia if they are out to get you.

Nora rocket surfing yes!

HAHAHA Blake's book is the most hilarious thing ever! If Arslan ever appears I want her reading it too XD

Poor Ruby :(

Nora is awesome.

I know this has probably already been up here and commented on, but at all the time and pages that have passed there's a good chance some of us have forgotten about it. The actual RWBY stuff is pretty much all in the first 20 minutes. Some bullet points:

  • Monty first started seriously considering making his own show during crunch time for Season 10 of RvB. He was talking to Burnie about ideas he had for Season 11 when they weren't even sure they'd be able to finish Season 10, and Burnie told him "Monty, if you get Season 10 done, you can do whatever you want," and Monty was like, "I'll hold you to that"
  • There was a reason for Monty to make the map of Remnant from a ketchup-stained napkin other than just because he was weird like that. According to him, he did things like that to introduce an element of randomness and chaos to what is typically a very rigid, artifice-laden process. That's also why he wanted to bring as many people as possible onto the project; because he knew that one guy working alone can become very rigid in his vision. So Shane Newville's arguments about Rooster Teeth "betraying" Monty's vision ring even more hollow
  • He specifically brought Kerry and Miles on to RWBY from the earliest brainstorming stages because he himself knew that writing wasn't what he was best at. He said that the reason the Red Trailer is almost all action is because Monty did it by himself in about 3 weeks because this was right after finishing RvB Season 10 and presumably everyone who wasn't Monty was either too busy or burned out to suddenly start working on animating an entirely new thing, and action scenes were something he could do in his sleep
  • Speaking of the Red trailer, he said it was very important to him to make sure that the action on-screen matched with the rhythm of the music. The human mind, according to Monty, naturally accepts rhythm, so people can accept very crazy and fantastic fight scenes if you make sure they follow the rhythm of the soundtrack
  • Monty's personal philosophy for making good fight scenes was to have his characters waste as little movement as possible while still being really flashy. You can see that encapsulated in the Red Trailer in the way that Ruby uses the recoil of her weapon to move around the battlefield and reloads even as she's swinging her weapon. In Volumes 1 and 2, most of the flourishes the characters made usually served some kind of purpose rather than just being there to look cool

It's good to know he was the kind of guy who admitted he would need a swift kick in the butt if he ever went to far. So few artists ever seem to realize that.

So according to this video (which should be timestamped for the relevant section):

Meg Turney met and befriended Monty before she even started working at Rooster Teeth, "for a completely separate [from Immersion] project that was RWBY-related." Is that just her role as Neon Katt, or might it be something else?

Also, Monty helped Meg and Gavin get together and they talk a little about Monty in the early part of the video.

Remember Nadir Shiko from team ABRN? The guy who did basically nothing that entire fight except get taken out of the fight like three times in a row? I've seen people say that his weapon was just an assault rifle, turns out that's not true.

It's a gunblade.

Speaking of team ABRN, some people have either not noticed or forgotten that Bolin Hori's weapon isn't just a staff; the staff has retracting blades on both ends.

When was the sword mode stuff anyway? Was it against Big Bird or Team RWBY?
