RWBY Thread III: Time To Say Goodbye

Stop: So gotta few things that need to be said real quick.
so gotta few things that need to be said real quick.
We get a lot of reports from this thread. A lot of it is just a series of people yelling at each other over arguments that have been rehashed hundreds of times since the end of the recent Volume. And I get that the last Volume - and RWBY in general, really - has some controversial moments that people will want to discuss, argue about, debate, etc.

That's fine. We're not going to stop people from doing that, because that's literally what the point of the thread is. However, there's just a point where it gets to be a bit too much, and arguments about whether or not Ironwood was morally justified in his actions in the recent Volume, or if RWBY and her team were in the right for withholding information from Ironwood out of distrust, or whatever flavor of argument of the day descend into insulting other posters, expressing a demeaning attitude towards other's opinions, and just being overall unpleasant. That tends to happen a lot in this thread. We want it to stop happening in this thread.

So! As of now the thread is in a higher state of moderation. What that means is that any future infractions will result in a weeklong boot from the thread, and repeated offenders will likely be permanently removed. So please, everyone endeavor to actually respect the other's arguments, and even if you strongly disagree with them please stay civil and mindful when it comes to responding to others.

In addition, users should refrain from talking about off-site users in the thread. Bear in mind that this does not mean that you cannot continue to post tumblr posts, for example, that add onto the discussion in the thread, with the caveat that it's related to RWBY of course. But any objections to offsite users in the thread should be handled via PM, or they'll be treated as thread violations and infracted as such.

Personally I want each member of team RWBY to have a small arc that is mostly character development for each of them while at the same time either building the world some more, setting something up for later or advancing the main plot.

Off the top of my head I can see Weiss's being focused around her getting out from under her father's thumb, maybe show us some of Atlas and possibly the Schnee dust company's exploitative business practices.

Blake's could focus more heavily on the White Fang, anti-faunus racism (which will most likely be on the rise after what just happened) and confronting her past rather than run away from it.

As for Yang the obvious choice would be her dealing with her current depression while showing us what's happening in Vale and maybe have some backstory on her mother's team. Although personally i'd love to see some of Vale's criminal element and maybe even her running into Neo who's going through a similar thing due to Roman's death (Insert denial via illusionary Roman here).

Still haven't explained how I'm wrong. Y'all are doing the same thing you're accusing me of doing. Think about that.

Plot hole: Ruby's cloak seems ripped, and fans theorize it's because she's been on the road for so long. But if that's true, how does she have a new, fanservice-y outfit?

Dude, you not agreeing with people isn't them not explaining things.

Because she hasn't replaced the coat? Also her new outfit had some tears on it as well if I recall. Honestly, while I'm always wary when content creators give a woman a new outfit that's more revealing I hadn't considered Ruby's outfit as remotely 'fanservicey' until people started saying it was and going on and on with stuff like "She's growing up and realised she wants to show off for the boy!" BS. But then, that's an issue with fans.

You: ruby left her team, shes not a tru hero gaiz

Me:
Weiss got pulled from the team by her father, who's been made out as overbearing and controlling since day one. Blake abandoned the team to go off gallivanting around Vale entirely of her own accord, potentially due to fears for their safety after Adam showed up. And Yang is bedridden or otherwise wallowing in self pity.

So I fully expect the writers to do something* with her running away from Yang *coughRavencough*, but that's all the 'calling out' I honestly imagine she'll get.

You: *Evidently unable to read*

Unless you're suggesting that she should track down Blake, whose life for a long time literally depended on her ability to hide, get Weiss out from directly under her father's thumb, and give Yang the classic therapy no jutsu and then go traipsing around with them.

There can be a lot of in-universe reasons for that tattered cloak:
  • it has a sentimental value and thus she won't replace it even though it got damaged during her journey and she could had bought a new one where she got her new clothes
  • it was tattered recently before the battle in the trailer (alongside the rest of her new clothes) and she didn't had the time to change them
  • she recently developed a big fangirlism on Qrow and want to emulate his style, hence the gray clothes and tattered cape
  • she needed to pee but in the middle of the woods there isn't any toilet paper, so well, she did with what she had
But I think that in the end the main reason for it is rule of cool, which this entire world runs on.

I can actually see Ruby doing this last one.
Well, she tried at the end of the previous volume, but Yang wasn't in any state of mind to listen, so Ruby probably though that Yang needed to be left alone for some time.

So to pass the time let's brainstorm various ways we'd like the first episodes focused on the individual RWBY members could turn out.

Personally I want the first Yang focused episode to start with a sad parallel to her trailer (Doing noticeably worse due to loss of an arm and showing a sad anger rather than her original cocky confidence) so as to show how broken she is both physically and mentally followed by someone (I sort of want it to be Junior) giving her a bit of a pep talk or point her to wherever Neo is holed up to grieve for Torchwick's death.

I expect Junior, Melanie, and Militia are going to be Yang's support system and trainers. They'll get her back to fighting shape and eventually get her the new Robot arm... Robot arm in volume 7.

I don't see why they would do that: they are information brokers, no personal coaches, besides Yang previously completely wrecked their club, so they have even less reasons to help her.

Junior seems to like her a little, and they are literally the only characters Yang has interacted with that are not enemies and our able to help her. Her dad is too far gone to really be willing to try.

Do we know that? I mean yeah he was mentioned to be broken down after the death of Summer but do we know if he has recovered since? because it looked like he was functioning pretty well during the Epilogue and was out looking for Ruby when he discovered that she left for parts unknown.

Maybe but I see it going another way, mainly due to the fact that the Grimm invasion has probably turned Vale into more of a lawless area due to the chaos and loss of communications. In that sort of place criminal elements often end up fueling the black market with once common goods that are now hard to find.

I can see Yang in her funk acting essentially as hired muscle for scavenging operations or just keeping order in some areas. Through this we could get a pretty good look at the condition of vale, a little bit of a look at what happens to hunter/tresses that can't make the cut and the criminal element.

However if someone is to train Yang it is either going to be her Dad, one of the Beacon teachers or (and this is what I hope for as it will also be a prime chance for backstory) a Neo who is lost with Roman.

I'm rather worried about Yang's arc in the next season, thanks to the lyrics of the full version of the S3 opening theme. Specifically, this bit:

Swallowed by the darkness
Soon the moon is bathed in black
The light of hope is taken
And discontent is the contagion

The blinding eyes
That burn a yellow flame
The embers that remain
Will light the fuse of condemnation

Kingdoms in tatters
Hung on the brink of a war
The peace will succumb to flames
I'm of the opinion that the first of these verses refers to Blake, and the second to Yang. Given what Yang was saying about Blake at the end of the S3 finale, I'm betting that this guess isn't too far off.

Why is Taiyang a broken man? He has a House and a Job, this indicates that he is mostly fine.
It's more in the emotionally broken sense since he lost both Women he loved in a relative short order, and was apparently so self absorbed in his grief according to Yang that he didn't notice that she had left with Ruby to find her Mother and were then rescued by Qrow weather by coincidence or that was when Taiyang broke out of his funk and asked Qrow for help, think Danny from Worm, however this was Taiyang from the past and we have no idea what he is like now outside of a few scenes in the last episode such as him sleeping beside Ruby's bed when she wakes up showing visable anger at Qrow for when he wants to talk to Ruby alone most likely knowing what he is about to tell her and finally he was last scene walking into Ruby's room with food when he discovered her gone and was running to find her.

She waited until he left the house before she did anything. Anything regarding how Qrow managed to find them is another matter.

Nope. My parents did it regularly once I was 8 or 9, they figured I was smart enough to not wander off and to know what to do if a stranger came by.
To be fair though, they just lost their mother so I think the context is slightly different, plus I think Yang would have been like... five and they seem to live in the woods on an island with Grim on it.
