RWBY Thread III: Time To Say Goodbye

Stop: So gotta few things that need to be said real quick.
so gotta few things that need to be said real quick.
We get a lot of reports from this thread. A lot of it is just a series of people yelling at each other over arguments that have been rehashed hundreds of times since the end of the recent Volume. And I get that the last Volume - and RWBY in general, really - has some controversial moments that people will want to discuss, argue about, debate, etc.

That's fine. We're not going to stop people from doing that, because that's literally what the point of the thread is. However, there's just a point where it gets to be a bit too much, and arguments about whether or not Ironwood was morally justified in his actions in the recent Volume, or if RWBY and her team were in the right for withholding information from Ironwood out of distrust, or whatever flavor of argument of the day descend into insulting other posters, expressing a demeaning attitude towards other's opinions, and just being overall unpleasant. That tends to happen a lot in this thread. We want it to stop happening in this thread.

So! As of now the thread is in a higher state of moderation. What that means is that any future infractions will result in a weeklong boot from the thread, and repeated offenders will likely be permanently removed. So please, everyone endeavor to actually respect the other's arguments, and even if you strongly disagree with them please stay civil and mindful when it comes to responding to others.

In addition, users should refrain from talking about off-site users in the thread. Bear in mind that this does not mean that you cannot continue to post tumblr posts, for example, that add onto the discussion in the thread, with the caveat that it's related to RWBY of course. But any objections to offsite users in the thread should be handled via PM, or they'll be treated as thread violations and infracted as such.

If I had one problem with Cinder is that she hasn't really had any setbacks to her plans with the exception of not getting all the Fall Maiden power right away but even with Half she was able to get the White Fang on her side rather quickly and got the rest of the power later on. Even with the potential of Qrow tanking her whole plan by simply watching the tournament she still got all she wanted.

Kind of makes her look like a villain sue to some extent.
EDIT: Okay the only real setback was the initial Glenn Mountain plan but again she had a perfect back up for it in the end.

*Raises hand*

I've talked about Cinder a bit before, and why I like her. I mean I dig the sardonically amused chessmistress kick she's got going, and the hints of this other lady she's working with/for are interesting, but I also really like how she's the nightmare scenario of modern society wrapped up in a slinky red dress.

Episode title is End of the Beginning. If that's not an "end of Act 1" thing, I don't know what is.

I enjoy Cinder and her character. Yes, her plans have mostly gone off without a hitch, but that's because her overall plan (from what we know of it) just happens to have a lot of ways to get it done. No one really expects a plan that causes a lot of panic for the sake of attracting Grimm because logically, it sounds suicidal in a time of peace. Even Ruby in the last episode was confused about what Roman got out of this. With the part of the Fall Maiden, it doesn't really matter how she got it done, she just needed to kill the Fall Maiden. Her receiving only part of it was a setback, so she worked on trying to find her, or at least her successor.

The part I'm mostly bothered by is how powerful the virus that she uses, but I generally attributed that to the person she's working for, who's implied (by the amounts of money and Dust Cinder offered) to be someone in at least a high position of power.

She's shown to be able to work with what she has, and take potential elements that can assist her and use them to an effective degree. I became more interested when she mentioned how arrogant Ozpin was.

Edit: If anything, I considered Cinder more interesting than Roman.

She's a dime-a-dozen Aizen clone.
Haven't people gone over how her plans don't really resemble the absurdness of Aizen's plans both in micro-managing people of mind-screwing? Besides while Cinder's less fun than Roman she's definitely intriguing to me and I want to see more so its hardly "everyone" as you said.

That was definitely the impression I got, though technically I don't think they said anything definitive. But yeah, they called him a "pawn".
A pawn can become a queen though :(

I'm pretty sure it was shown that Qrow didn't recognise them so even if he did watch the tournament, and he may have watcher their match given how long he'd apparently been at the bar, he wouldn't have figured it out anyway. Besides that though I feel the reason Cinder's plan is hard to thwart is simply because its broad and she's distant from it, she acted through Roman, the White Fang and others and pretty much all were just ways to build up terror and freak people out, that's hard to fight without in-depth knowledge of who she is or the specifics of what she's doing.

This is another reason I like Cinder, yeah; she's a pretty good attempt at a genius planner done right. The current result is clearly not going exactly how she intended it to; she'd hoped to have the Grimm emerging into the city from Mountain Glenn, and she never expected to use Penny like she could. But because her goals are simple and her plans are flexible, she can work around setbacks almost seamlessly and exploit opportunities as they come. It's quite slick, and a lot more impressive to me than some convoluted 'master plan' that requires way too much micromanaging to be practical.

How much do you want to bet that daddy dearest is the one behind Cinder?
Given Cinder said "She was right about you. Such arrogance" I think its a woman myself. Maybe an evil step mother.
I honestly think that it's someone powerful in Mistral, considering how Cinder and her team was able to disguise themselves as students from Haven.
Qrow did say that the other headmasters were meant to be in on the conspiracy and keep the world safe, maybe one of them has turned evil?

So I'm rewatching chapter 5 of volume 3 and my heat is in a million pieces. Not unlike Penny! :p

It's likely a woman, unless Cinder specifically used "she" to misdirect Ozpin in the chance that he survives their fight. That would actually be pretty clever if that was the case.

I think that it might be the headmaster from Mistral. It would make sense as she would be able to say how Ozpin is arrogant if she was a fellow headmaster. It would allow for Cinder's team to enter under Haven as long as Haven can cover for them.

That would be clever, and very simple as well, I quite like it )

That's my thinking as well, heck despite what Qrow said we didn't ever see the other headmasters being talked to so they may actually feel like Ozpin is handling too much themself rather than working with the rest of the team.
This is probably almost exactly on the money, considering Cinder's inspiration.
Thanks, that was my thinking as well.

Probably yeah, if it were as simple as that she'd have likely not needed Neo and Roman to take over the airships.

Like I said, this is the thing that irks me the most. Not hacking the robots from their command station. Taking the ship in the fireplace. It just seems like the command ship would have specialists stationed on board. Enough to at least put up a fight.

And Neo, while deadly, clearly isn't that amazing. Ruby was able to defend herself for a whole half minute. Prodigy or not that isn't a great showing for the ice cream.

 She wasn't Combat Ready.

Until proven otherwise I am convinced that Ruby and Penny will have a heartfelt reunion in Atlas after she's put back together, probably while Yang is getting her Kill Mercury robot arm.

Alternatively, it will be Penny Version 2 who will Ruby despair for being so seemingly soulless :(
