RWBY Thread III: Time To Say Goodbye

Stop: So gotta few things that need to be said real quick.
so gotta few things that need to be said real quick.
We get a lot of reports from this thread. A lot of it is just a series of people yelling at each other over arguments that have been rehashed hundreds of times since the end of the recent Volume. And I get that the last Volume - and RWBY in general, really - has some controversial moments that people will want to discuss, argue about, debate, etc.

That's fine. We're not going to stop people from doing that, because that's literally what the point of the thread is. However, there's just a point where it gets to be a bit too much, and arguments about whether or not Ironwood was morally justified in his actions in the recent Volume, or if RWBY and her team were in the right for withholding information from Ironwood out of distrust, or whatever flavor of argument of the day descend into insulting other posters, expressing a demeaning attitude towards other's opinions, and just being overall unpleasant. That tends to happen a lot in this thread. We want it to stop happening in this thread.

So! As of now the thread is in a higher state of moderation. What that means is that any future infractions will result in a weeklong boot from the thread, and repeated offenders will likely be permanently removed. So please, everyone endeavor to actually respect the other's arguments, and even if you strongly disagree with them please stay civil and mindful when it comes to responding to others.

In addition, users should refrain from talking about off-site users in the thread. Bear in mind that this does not mean that you cannot continue to post tumblr posts, for example, that add onto the discussion in the thread, with the caveat that it's related to RWBY of course. But any objections to offsite users in the thread should be handled via PM, or they'll be treated as thread violations and infracted as such.

Saw the free play clip.

This is more like a clarification than a spoiler:
Ren and Nora were seriously injured by the Paladin, that's why they were lying down near Yang and Blake in the other preview. Looks like broken ribs, they can't move around. `:(

Definite spoilers here:
Jaune and Pyrrha are still missing. Ruby and Weiss are going to find them. Ruby knows the full extent of Yang and Blake's injuries.

Ruby agrees to evacuate with Sun after she finds Jaune and Pyrrha. Looks like everyone wants to abandon Beacon. Even the White Fang are pulling out, so it wasn't just Adam and Torchwick's negative nancy attitudes drawing aggression. They really didn't have a way to control the Grimm, they just used them as a force multiplier.

...That is so fucked up.

Up for sponsors: Free Play: RWBY Extravaganza! - #42

RWBY chat begins at 9:50. Sneak preview of the next and final episode at 15:20.
Here's a summary of what we saw, with screenshots:

(credit to /u/RussianHoneyBadger on /r/RWBY for the transcript)

Sun, Blake, Yang, Ruby, Weiss, Zwei, Ren, and Nora all waiting on the airship docks.

Sun: Talking to Ruby & Weiss. "She's going to be okay, the soldiers have a ship ready to take you guys to Vale."

Nora: Sitting down because of wounds. "But Jaune and Pyrrha are still missing." Tries to stand but winces and clutches stomach.

Ruby: Surprised. "What!?"

Sun: "Look guys, that giant thing keeps circling the school. Even the White Fang are pulling out. We all have to go! Now!"

Ren: Attempting to stand. "We're not leaving!" Cries out in pain and falls back down, Nora reaching for him in concern.

Shot of Sun overlooking Blake who is barely conscious and Yang who is passed out.

Weiss looking sad/conflicted.

Ruby: Ruby looking conflicted. "I'll find them." Determination filling her voice. "I'll find them and I'll bring them back!"

Weiss: "No." Walks up to Ruby. "We will find them." Turns to Sun. "Watch out for Blake and Yang. We'll be back."

As Geoff noted in the commentary, there's also music in the background by Alex Abraham, one of the artists working at Rooster Teeth along with Jeff Williams and Steve Goldshein. He's responsible for most of the musical cues in RWBY episodes, as you can hear on his SoundCloud page.

And remember, they have a livestream where they are going to do commentary over the whole season in half an hour.
EDIT: The stream is live now. For the next 10 minutes, it's the control room pre-stream show.

Torchwick is confirmed dead. Miles and Grey were reminding fans he got a "stay of execution" because he was so popular. Also confirmed is that Velvet's weapons are temporary and can only be used once.

We also had confirmed that Penny - and Yang's arm - were planned from before Volume 1. Also from the way they're talking about Penny, Penny's definitely fully dead.

Adam's semblance is "close to Yang's", but that's all they'll say about it.

Out of all the changes RT made, those are what stuck?

Wish Roman and Cinder switched places. No one gives a shit about Cinder. She's a dime-a-dozen Aizen clone.
Roman was always a Disk 1 boss while Cinder fit either the Final Fantasy Main Boss or Final Boss slot. Depending on what they do with her backer.

The overarching plot of RWBY kinda makes more sense as you look at it via the lens of a FF game. Which, again, makes sense since Monty loved FF 8.

That was definitely the impression I got, though technically I don't think they said anything definitive. But yeah, they called him a "pawn".

Where did that come from? I don't recall anything that suggested Penny's fate was settled.

I continue to be in blissful denial about Roman's death. Though I am curious as to how he would have died back in Volume 1. Smoked by Penny's doom laser?

I know Cinder is supposed to be the Big Bad, but why couldn't they have made her interesting? You know why everyone loved Roman? His character had actual... y'know, character.

Stop treating your OPINIONS like they're a god damn fact. We get it. YOU dislike Cinder. I don't doubt that other people dislike her as well. But guess what? Other people like her. Other people find her interesting. So stop speaking for everyone!

Name FIVE.

SV's a pretty big place. Shouldn't take that long.

But seriously, do you or anybody else actually like her character, or what results from her actions? There is a difference.

I have to agree Cinder's pretty meh from what we've seen of her so far. She's neither humorous nor interesting. Intimidating, I guess, but there's a bunch of those out there and we already have RWBY villains who are intimidating.

Emerald has a potential redemption plot.

Mercury is a love to hate kind of guy.

I don't really need to speak for Roman and Neo.

Adam has that MUH EDGE thing going on, plus his relationship to Blake is also interesting as well.

Honestly Banesaw has more character than Cinder.

We'll have to see what they have in store for Cinder, but she's pretty underwhelming compared to the rest of RWBY's rogues gallery.
