RWBY Thread III: Time To Say Goodbye

Stop: So gotta few things that need to be said real quick.
so gotta few things that need to be said real quick.
We get a lot of reports from this thread. A lot of it is just a series of people yelling at each other over arguments that have been rehashed hundreds of times since the end of the recent Volume. And I get that the last Volume - and RWBY in general, really - has some controversial moments that people will want to discuss, argue about, debate, etc.

That's fine. We're not going to stop people from doing that, because that's literally what the point of the thread is. However, there's just a point where it gets to be a bit too much, and arguments about whether or not Ironwood was morally justified in his actions in the recent Volume, or if RWBY and her team were in the right for withholding information from Ironwood out of distrust, or whatever flavor of argument of the day descend into insulting other posters, expressing a demeaning attitude towards other's opinions, and just being overall unpleasant. That tends to happen a lot in this thread. We want it to stop happening in this thread.

So! As of now the thread is in a higher state of moderation. What that means is that any future infractions will result in a weeklong boot from the thread, and repeated offenders will likely be permanently removed. So please, everyone endeavor to actually respect the other's arguments, and even if you strongly disagree with them please stay civil and mindful when it comes to responding to others.

In addition, users should refrain from talking about off-site users in the thread. Bear in mind that this does not mean that you cannot continue to post tumblr posts, for example, that add onto the discussion in the thread, with the caveat that it's related to RWBY of course. But any objections to offsite users in the thread should be handled via PM, or they'll be treated as thread violations and infracted as such.

Oh shit. We've been hoodwinked. Roman didn't lose this fight, in fact he succeeded beyond our wildest dreams! He pressed the grimdark button! Just look!

Oh no. :(

Speaking of the fight, remember the music that kicked in when Yang started taking the Paladin apart and played during the credits?

Well somebody pieced it together on youtube and included the lyrics. It's this season's Red Like Roses Part II because it is describing some very nasty things about to go down.

It was just fine,
we lived in peace,
looked to a happy ending

The days were bright,
they shined like gold,
every step ascending

Our dreams came true,
our path was clear,
the moon watched safely from above

but every smile
is not the same
and every heart's not filled with…..

Love for mankind
look around, it's getting very hard to find.
Not every open wound is simply healed by time
but revenge is always sweet
and chaos is the prize!

Feel it everywhere and you see it growing,
enemies arise and the hate is flowing,
shattering the moon and bloodying the sky.
The machines of war will fuel both sides,
and the greed will only grow more lies,
farewell to days of peace cuz now it's time to Die!

Is it just me or does it seem like the destruction of the moon is an ongoing process.
The explanation given was that Remnant's moon is not tidally locked to the planet, as Earth's moon is, so the different "phases" of the moon in RWBY (and different levels of disintegration) are actually due to different angles of view.

Since the lyrics speak of the moon watching "safely from above", and later "shattering", I wonder if they refer to current/upcoming events, or if they actually refer to events in the past which led to the original shattering of the moon, however that happened.

also the season 2 trailer shows the moon completely disintegrating

Dear Dust, I hope there's a longer version!

I would hate to live on the coast after that.

They didn't piece it together, Jeff Williams posted the rough unfinished version onto his soundcloud account, and the lyrics to said rough version onto his journal on the Roosterteeth website, that's where they got it from.

Dear Dust, I hope there's a longer version!

Yeah, there probably will be, but unlike with Volume 1, it's not gonna be out until sometime after the finale, same thing with the rest of the soundtrack and the other songs for this Volume (yeah, there's more btw, we're only on our second song if we count the song from the episode 3 credits) since they're not finished yet.

Silly theory for why Roman singled out the ice queen, she's the only one he hasn't met before. He saw Yang at the club, Ruby has gone up against him twice and Blake threatened to cut his throat. Weiss was the only stranger. :p

More seriously I think it would be neat if the next episode openened up with the news lady giving a news report on the incident and aftermath. A news report would let us swiftly see how the Police are handling this, if the White Fang got away, how much RWBY revealed and how Ironwood tries to get his ass out of the fire. Plus we'll get to see Lisa Lavender again.

Inversely he knows that she's of the house of Schnee and was sarcastically acknowledging her presence.

Something that just occurred to me though someone might have suggested this earlier. What if the cryptic chess metaphor that Qrow sent to Ozpin wasn't just a chess metaphor? What if the Queen is an actual queen of one of the four kingdoms? Most likely Vacuo or the fourth kingdom since Cinder is striking at Vale and general Ironwood is from Atlas and seems determined to stop her.

Problem is we don't really know how the various governments of the four kingdoms work. Just another item in the 'have to wait and see' pile.

True its just speculation but I'd still imagine that when they call their nations kingdoms some form of monarchy is present and likely has at least some degree of influence. If one of said monarchs were to use pawns to destabilize the other kingdoms by funding terrorist organisations and grand theft of vital resources it would certainly explain why Ironwood is so concerned.

Speaking of grand theft the fact that seemingly multiple Paladin mech-suits are in the hands of terrorist organizations and crooks is a major black mark for Atlas and the Schnee Dust Company.

Though I have to wonder how the hell Cinder (presumably) pulled that theft off. The things apparently aren't even in general production/circulation yet and she managed to walk off with enough to be termed 'an arsenal'.

My theory is that Ironwood lied about them only starting production. If I'm right, Paladins and the Knights have been in general production for a while, and Cinder managed to grab more than a few.

What kind of bothers me is that how good ARE these mechs supposed to be either way? The only way I can see them being superior to Hunters and Huntresses is that they might be easier to deploy, as they don't take years to train or produce. Otherwise, a single Hunter might lose, but any more Hunters and it looks like it would result in a solid win for the Hunters. If it had been driven off by all six and not destroyed I could accept that it might be somewhat better than a single team, but otherwise my SOD is kinda falling apart.

Probably not meant to take on Hunters on its own. From that fight, it seems like it could probably disengage from a fight against Hunters decently well, but it looks like it'd work better as supporting fire than a standalone combatant. If it had something to keep too much pressure off of it, I can see it doing some good damage to a Hunter. That and it was probably specially designed to fight Grimm, rather than other people.

Hmmm.....true. Most Grimm that we've seen aren't that agile or mobile, with the exception of the Nevermore and the King Tajitu, and the Nevermore is still easy enough with enough supporting fire.

Even so, I'm still kinda having trouble believing that a military that has been devoted to this entire line of research for ostensibly years thought that putting something out that could be this easily defeated by students, albeit talented and experienced ones, was a good idea.

Yeah, depending on when this one got stolen, I'd hope they addressed that at some point afterwards. Either with the unit itself or with something to go alongside it.
