RWBY Thread III: Time To Say Goodbye

Stop: So gotta few things that need to be said real quick.
so gotta few things that need to be said real quick.
We get a lot of reports from this thread. A lot of it is just a series of people yelling at each other over arguments that have been rehashed hundreds of times since the end of the recent Volume. And I get that the last Volume - and RWBY in general, really - has some controversial moments that people will want to discuss, argue about, debate, etc.

That's fine. We're not going to stop people from doing that, because that's literally what the point of the thread is. However, there's just a point where it gets to be a bit too much, and arguments about whether or not Ironwood was morally justified in his actions in the recent Volume, or if RWBY and her team were in the right for withholding information from Ironwood out of distrust, or whatever flavor of argument of the day descend into insulting other posters, expressing a demeaning attitude towards other's opinions, and just being overall unpleasant. That tends to happen a lot in this thread. We want it to stop happening in this thread.

So! As of now the thread is in a higher state of moderation. What that means is that any future infractions will result in a weeklong boot from the thread, and repeated offenders will likely be permanently removed. So please, everyone endeavor to actually respect the other's arguments, and even if you strongly disagree with them please stay civil and mindful when it comes to responding to others.

In addition, users should refrain from talking about off-site users in the thread. Bear in mind that this does not mean that you cannot continue to post tumblr posts, for example, that add onto the discussion in the thread, with the caveat that it's related to RWBY of course. But any objections to offsite users in the thread should be handled via PM, or they'll be treated as thread violations and infracted as such.

Same reason why you don't have an artillery piece or a command vehicle be on the front lines, fighting the enemy.

I don't think it is a dedicated attack vehicle.

Hmmm.....true. Most Grimm that we've seen aren't that agile or mobile, with the exception of the Nevermore and the King Tajitu, and the Nevermore is still easy enough with enough supporting fire.

Even so, I'm still kinda having trouble believing that a military that has been devoted to this entire line of research for ostensibly years thought that putting something out that could be this easily defeated by students, albeit talented and experienced ones, was a good idea.
So far the only information we have on Remnant's history of warfare is the battles the Faunus fought in to keep from being shipped of to Menagerie. We don't know that fighting other kingdoms is even a thing people like Ironwood consider plausible, much less likely; in which case designing a mech to fight huntsmen/huntresses might actually be a waste of time to the people in charge, nor do we know anything about the role of the mech in the combined arms doctrine of Atlas.

So yeah, complaining about it seems at best counterproductive, given the lack of information we have on it's purpose and place.

Am I missing some kind of fandom meme or something? Why are people suddenly drawing Neo as if she has vitiligo?

Eh, there's plenty of cosmetic stuff that could be used to obtain that effect, so I have my doubts.

... But what if you're right, and she is a chimera? What if she's not Roman's daughter, but his children?
What would that do to her Aura? Right now, everyone seems to have one school of Aura they can do, like with Yang and fire. Would that give her greater flexibility, have no effect, or what?

Blake and Sun took out a small platoon of white fang, Yang singlehandedly cowed a criminal gang, Blake (And Adam) took down a train's defense force cadre and Penny obliterated a squadron of airships.

It's pretty FREAKIN' clear that Huntresses are far and above too much for small conventional forces. We have no proof that Remant's military forces are significantly more competent on the infantry scale to the legions of mooks we've already seen mowed down by our superpowered protagonists. It's quite likely that Grim monsters that hunters use for training exercises would scythe through regular soldier joes.

That mech was actually really damn effective, everything considered. It took on six Hunters total and scored a significant number of clean hits.

She probably does as she's a chimera with notable pigmentation differences.
Her eyes were both brown in her first appearance on stage, though, so either that was a mistake or her later heterochromia is due to her semblance activating (like with Yang) or something.

Neo's two-toned hair is a more striking difference, but that could be dyed. (Ruby's hair is also two-toned, though her color change from black to red is more subtle.)

Apparently, that happens more often than most people would expect.
Indeed. See: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chimera_(genetics)

It wouldn't necessarily make any difference, since biology doesn't seem to be essential for Aura (as Penny demonstrates). Same for semblance, assuming it works similarly.

Though, it would be interesting if it did. And if Neo's hair/eye color is natural, you could imagine that affecting her mindset somehow and bleeding into her Aura/semblance (with some handwaving).

Things I've noticed in RWBY fanart lately:

Yang with a bloody face, looking beaten up. Thing is, she's usually also got a crazed smile on her that implies whoever did it to her got it worse. Makes sense given her power and role as the party tank.

Blake being... Well, black. Or at least ambiguously dark skinned. I'm pretty much convinced the reason Blake isn't like that in the first place is because of Monty figuring at the last moment he wanted to avoid the "Black Ranger Problem" given the color theme naming and fell right into the "X-Men Problem"

An uptick in Melanie and Miltia. The Malachite sisters' reappearance reminded people they exist I guess.

Artists continuing to struggle with the Malachite sisters' design.

People going cray cray for Neo, and usually missing her tri-colored hair.

Rampant lesbianism. (This is not new.)

No new episode this week, BUT we are getting a worldbuilding session to make up for it. All the details are in Grey's journal on the RT site.

Hey Beacon Students-

We have a unique lineup for RWBY fans this Thursday! This is an "off" week for new RWBY episodes, with Chapter 5 hitting next Thursday the 28th. BUT! We do have new content for you this week from the world of Remnant! Called... "World of Remant" ...which seems fitting. Anyhoo, this August 21st, at 3pm Central for Rooster Teeth Sponsors (and 7pm for general public), fans will get the first of several new "history lessons" exploring a particular corner of RWBY's world. And it's all fair game for the quiz... that you give us!

We're also doing a public livestream this Thursday at 5pm Central, here on RoosterTeeth.com! Join Monty, Kerry, Miles and the gang as they answer your questions based on being a third through Volume 2. You can begin leaving your questions now in the comments for this journal entry, and you'll also be able to tweet using #RWBY_QA during the livestream. As part of this stream we'll also be chatting with the RWBY animation team as they wrap up animation for all of Volume 2 this week! So anything goes: story, art, animation, tech, ask away!

See ya in a couple days,
g.

i think their setting the stage for the mid-season fight.

That would be episode 6 though, not episode 5. Though according to Monty's appearance on that annoying as hell hour long after show thingy, something big happens in episode 5 that they briefly wished they could separate.

I don't know. I'm worried that this might mean it won't be shown in the show.
Could be that while its world building, it's of the sort that they can't really fit in the show without seeming like an obvious/blatant info dump.

They got away with Aura last season because Jaune didn't know about the topic. Here it could be stuff that is common knowledge to the in-universe characters but not to us.
