RWBY Thread III: Time To Say Goodbye

Stop: So gotta few things that need to be said real quick.
so gotta few things that need to be said real quick.
We get a lot of reports from this thread. A lot of it is just a series of people yelling at each other over arguments that have been rehashed hundreds of times since the end of the recent Volume. And I get that the last Volume - and RWBY in general, really - has some controversial moments that people will want to discuss, argue about, debate, etc.

That's fine. We're not going to stop people from doing that, because that's literally what the point of the thread is. However, there's just a point where it gets to be a bit too much, and arguments about whether or not Ironwood was morally justified in his actions in the recent Volume, or if RWBY and her team were in the right for withholding information from Ironwood out of distrust, or whatever flavor of argument of the day descend into insulting other posters, expressing a demeaning attitude towards other's opinions, and just being overall unpleasant. That tends to happen a lot in this thread. We want it to stop happening in this thread.

So! As of now the thread is in a higher state of moderation. What that means is that any future infractions will result in a weeklong boot from the thread, and repeated offenders will likely be permanently removed. So please, everyone endeavor to actually respect the other's arguments, and even if you strongly disagree with them please stay civil and mindful when it comes to responding to others.

In addition, users should refrain from talking about off-site users in the thread. Bear in mind that this does not mean that you cannot continue to post tumblr posts, for example, that add onto the discussion in the thread, with the caveat that it's related to RWBY of course. But any objections to offsite users in the thread should be handled via PM, or they'll be treated as thread violations and infracted as such.

So apparently Semblance/Aura can allow someone to become 'more than human (or Faunus presumably) and while messing about with a conceptual fight scene between Cinder and an OC (fear not I have no intention of writing it) somehting both characters did struck me as "becoming more than insert species here" and I started thinking about how such a thing might manifest when used at its full. Now its been hinted Ozpin is already such a person, or entity, but he's obviously human looking so presumably it either isn't particularly grand or can be turned off an on.

So, how do I think it manifests? Basically it involves the individual becoming "one" with their Aura and a living incarnation of their Semblance, becoming a mix between a sort of quasi spirit/elemental (not RWBY terms just the most appropriate) and a living concept. The best example I can think of off the top of my head would be sort of like Flash becoming one, or close to one with the speed force.

Basically Ruby's Semblance, except she might manifest more as rose petals

In the characters I was imagining, accurately or inaccurately, I basically pictured someone who could fuse their skin with a crystallised coat, literally becoming a living diamond sort of entity.
Sort of reminiscent of this but less, um, none Faunusoid.

And, probably incorrectly in Cinder's case, I imagined her becoming a sort of living pillar of fire when activating her power, giant head, distorted voice and all before becoming a more living humanoid flame thing that won't die when cut, stabbed, punched of blasted. (Though her Semblance seems more likely to involve runes, or glass I concede)
"Manifestation"
"Human form use"
"True form"
I couldn't find a "giant elemental scene" that really had what I wanted but the top pic was close.

Of course some other reach this point but many fail, being subsumed by their Semblances and dying.

>tfw Grimm are more of a threat in the video game than they are in the actual show :V

Is anyone going to comment on how Winter's summon was a inverse coloration Grimm? Does that not strike anyone as ominous?
Color appears to be similar to the general Schnee Aura so nothing surprising there.

As for the form, their summoning is apparently based on 'defeated enemies'. As a Huntress, Winter has slaughtered a lot of Grimm in her day.

Specialist. Winter is military, a normal Huntress is a bit more mercenary/classic RPG hero, taking whatever job is offered.

No, Winter's a Huntress and a member of Atlas' Specialist Unit, as the products of Atlas Academy tend to be (it's one of the reasons Qrow doesn't like Jimmy boy).

See: World of Remnant; Hunters and Huntresses

No, it's pretty clearly a snow-white Grimm. And I'd certainly be wary of somebody who appears to summon Grimm, even if they do have all the wrong colorations and are biddable.

It raises all sorts of questions as to what exactly the Grimm are.

Indeed. If the Grimm are supposed to be physical manifestations of conflict or negative emotions or something, you simply shouldn't be able to summon a friendly Grimm. Speaking of its hard to imagine that in-universe there isn't going to be some suspicion for someone who can "make" Grimm or "control" Grimm.

For that matter I still have a suspicion that dust and Grimm are connected. Every living thing has an aura, except Grimm, which don't, while dust allows for feats otherwise only possibly with aura to be replicated or enhances aura feats. That makes me wonder if dust was created by desouling what became the Grimm, perhaps because they're fucking up the land a la Shinra or something. Meanwhile Schnee specializes in both dust... and summoning Grimm.

OK, Weiss in RWBY Grimm Eclipse is OP as hell.

Look, Weiss is hinted to be able to to summon the giant knight robot-thing she fought in her trailer in the future. Winter summons images of Grimm because they're literally the easiest fucking opponent to find. What, did you want to see her summoning the splitting image of some deceased White Fang members?

So this is probably old news for some people, but I just now found out where Monty got the inspiration for Team SSSN's character designs.

I kind of wish I hadn't.

why is k-pop?

Easy the Grimm are some nature's wrath stuff killing the humans/faunus for polluting the planet or for being a danger to it.

Edit: at least that was my first thoughts upon seeing the Schnee's summoning stuff.

Chapter 5 preview!

The rainbow girl is a monkey Faunus...I guess you could say she's a Rainbow Monkey!

I hope they don't go the stereotypical "girl freaks out due to being called fat" thing.

Also we have our first bard! :D

Also we finally get to meet Penny's partner, cool :D

Well we've already seen what happens if you cut her hair, I imagine the fat jab will end the same way.
While I can see where you're coming from I can't say I agree. Yang only flips out when her hair is actually damaged and its likely somehting she takes a certain amount of pride in, plus is actually glows when she powers up meaning she may have a closer connection to it than others might with their own hair. Comparably, flipping out at a weight based insult when, A, she clearly not remotely overweight and B, doing so makes her seem very superficially insecure in a very stereotypical manner that just, well, kind of doesn't seem to match with how she's been portrayed so far, at least to me.
