RWBY Thread III: Time To Say Goodbye

Stop: So gotta few things that need to be said real quick.
so gotta few things that need to be said real quick.
We get a lot of reports from this thread. A lot of it is just a series of people yelling at each other over arguments that have been rehashed hundreds of times since the end of the recent Volume. And I get that the last Volume - and RWBY in general, really - has some controversial moments that people will want to discuss, argue about, debate, etc.

That's fine. We're not going to stop people from doing that, because that's literally what the point of the thread is. However, there's just a point where it gets to be a bit too much, and arguments about whether or not Ironwood was morally justified in his actions in the recent Volume, or if RWBY and her team were in the right for withholding information from Ironwood out of distrust, or whatever flavor of argument of the day descend into insulting other posters, expressing a demeaning attitude towards other's opinions, and just being overall unpleasant. That tends to happen a lot in this thread. We want it to stop happening in this thread.

So! As of now the thread is in a higher state of moderation. What that means is that any future infractions will result in a weeklong boot from the thread, and repeated offenders will likely be permanently removed. So please, everyone endeavor to actually respect the other's arguments, and even if you strongly disagree with them please stay civil and mindful when it comes to responding to others.

In addition, users should refrain from talking about off-site users in the thread. Bear in mind that this does not mean that you cannot continue to post tumblr posts, for example, that add onto the discussion in the thread, with the caveat that it's related to RWBY of course. But any objections to offsite users in the thread should be handled via PM, or they'll be treated as thread violations and infracted as such.

Yeah I dropped it too because the story was getting too outlandish for my taste (and it was a pain in the ass to find an English translation) but the long-haired Ruby is still to this day one of the best adult Ruby fan designs I've seen. (and I'm still salty that the author had her cut her hair back to short  )

Was thinking
If Penny was able to still fight this hard against the hack then its very likely she'd crashed several times trying to get to the others.
If the heroes foil Salem again partly by turning her allies against her I could see Salem go "You wanna play dirty, fine we'll play dirty" and use GrimmSummer next.

Wow this episode was great for Schnee family and Ruby-Blake development! Also Cinder basically confirmed to become Hound 2.0 by the end of the season imo, no way they would have killed it off that early if they didn't have a replacement, and Cinder is far less skeletized than that poor faunus inside the Hound so she may be able to take advantage of its apparent SE resistance (while weakened terribly, SE did not turn it to stone and only a small portion burned away).

I'm glad Blake and Ruby are talking so much this season, and very pleased to see in-show confirmation Ruby inspires people. Cynicism is not gonna get me through this pandemic.

So basically all the custom Grimm jobs are boss fights... Def looking forward to the flying Beringals.

Whitely did even more to win me over this episode. Step one care about other people and act on it instead of scoffing, step two realize your vast family resources can be used to help a ton more people if you get off your ass... and that'll be one order of refugees from Mantle to safety, with free shipping! Willow was kinda dicey for a while but she pulled through in the end. Glad they have a path to evacuate Mantle without Ironwood's approval now.

Willow has a Boarbatusk summon, which is a point in favor of of my theory that she was the one to train Winter in the Schnee Semblance.

But jesus SDC is worse than Amazon. Own and control the entire Kingdom's delivery system (including a personal army of drones to pilot the SDC shuttles!) and personal backup grids for all execs.

I think Jacques's password was WHI- something, my guess is WHITE or WHITLEY

Ironwood once again confirmed blithering moron, Watts ofc ordered Penny to self terminate after opening vault. Ahhh they need to find Pietro or destroy the hacked sword. Looks like Penny can resist the hacking directives temporarily while emotionally and physically grounded by a friend, but not permanently.

But what if Nuts and Doltz sails because Ruby's support helps Penny overcome the hack permanently I will mentally prepare for my emotional hurting when they make Ruby kill evil Penny instead of being hopeful.

Also it was a very cool touch that the eyeless Hound was explicitly scent tracking and got confused because Penny's blood was on multiple people.

So I keep seeing
this bonjour meme:

but honestly. No "Here's Johnny!" meme? In the horror hotel episode? For shame internet. For shame.

There's even a ton of RWBY references in Doctor Sleep and everything. (great movie btw, highly recommend it. The heroine is a Emerald fangirl but honestly she reminds me a lot more of Ruby "I am a sweet little cinnamon roll that loves everyone and wants to make the world better but if you insist on being evil then I will cut you" Rose.

And speaking of Emerald, she is going to have some catching up to do when she defects.

well 2 out of 3 right in regards to what the fuck the hound is is not to bad.

But ya, seeing they just squished a man y'all can bet Ruby is gonna be messed up a touch more. And after Blake tried SO hard to pep talk her!
Welp, now to see what fanfic writers do with this new info.
Also, I will be disappointed if we don't get Hound!Ruby art at some point. It also helps that we now see the inside.
And ya, Hound is basically Grimm Symbiote. Y'all saw how the dog head flipped back on.

As someone who has loved Whitley since Volume 4, can I just say that I am thriving right now? I always knew he had it in him.

Also a little scene during May's departure helps give an idea of just how freaking big some of the Grimm in this swarm are:
At 3:40 or so, you see a giant Seer-type Grimm sitting (and taking up about a fifth of the length) on one of the large Atlas ariships. And then it snaps the thing in half.

So what? The things do nothing under any circumstance.

Those ones are called Tempests

time to ramble

So. Grimm are from Dark and the Silvers have a connection to Light and Oz.
Salem is the way she is because she took a dip in both Brother's pools of magic.
Salem probably figured out the same Silver/Light connection Maria made ages ago after hearing about what they could do to her grimm.
Salem might be doing these experiments as a middle finger to both The Brothers and to Oz.
Gimm are Dark's personal creation, and the Silvers are decedents of Oz bearing a gift from Light, and now Salem is twisting them together into her own personal creations.
How deep does her spite go??

Oh sure the airships do nothing but I enjoy the various little scenes shoing just how nuts some of Salem's forces are.
Also I think a sign of how much time shes put into preparing all of this. There's so much she's brought and done I doubt she started when Hazel told her about Oz. This had to take a long time to create let alone organize. Everyone always asks why she hadn't attacked sooner, it might because she was amassing forces big enough first.

Problem is where are they going to evacuate to? Atlas is compromised and if shit goes wrong, so to will the Crater. Even before Whitley's idea, this was a bit of a problem since, as we saw with Salem arriving onto Atlas, there really isn't any protecting the evacuees.

It's called GTFO of Solitas. I mean, Thor and crew had to abandon Asgard and yet "Asgard" was not "gone" because it's people survived. Salem is occupied screwing around with Jimmy thinking everything is well in hand, meanwhile the people and our heroes will live to see another day and eventually build again.

Sure, but remember that what he sent down there is probably the flying equivalent of Amazon delivery vans. Not exactly suited to an oceanic flight. Who knows if they have the fuel capacity to even theoretically make it, let alone carry frightened civilians at or over maximum capacity.

There literally was thank to Ironwood's shields and the fact he had no idea when Salem was going to arrive before resorting to murdering the elderly and running away with Cinder onboard.

Also what Pugman said.

Given they were part of the SDC delivery fleet that were described specifically as having had nothing to do since the embargo, I would assume they are explicitly designed for crossing the oceans.

Still better then the options they currently have.

I mean for Mantle.
A strategy I can see used is they can't get us all. A lot of Mantle would die from the Grimm destroying the SDC transports but some people will be able to make it out. It's a bit of a roll of the dice to see how many will make it.

So, Argus or vacuo?

Also the reason Whitley thought of this when Ironwood couldn't is because he cares about people he's never met. Ironwood just declared them lost and didn't give it any more thought.

Also Ironwood thinks in terms of big guns and decisive battles(tm). In comparison Whitley was trained to manage a multi-kingdom company. Where a good amount of it's business involves shipping large amounts of cargo in a timely manner all over the place.
