RWBY Thread III: Time To Say Goodbye

Stop: So gotta few things that need to be said real quick.
so gotta few things that need to be said real quick.
We get a lot of reports from this thread. A lot of it is just a series of people yelling at each other over arguments that have been rehashed hundreds of times since the end of the recent Volume. And I get that the last Volume - and RWBY in general, really - has some controversial moments that people will want to discuss, argue about, debate, etc.

That's fine. We're not going to stop people from doing that, because that's literally what the point of the thread is. However, there's just a point where it gets to be a bit too much, and arguments about whether or not Ironwood was morally justified in his actions in the recent Volume, or if RWBY and her team were in the right for withholding information from Ironwood out of distrust, or whatever flavor of argument of the day descend into insulting other posters, expressing a demeaning attitude towards other's opinions, and just being overall unpleasant. That tends to happen a lot in this thread. We want it to stop happening in this thread.

So! As of now the thread is in a higher state of moderation. What that means is that any future infractions will result in a weeklong boot from the thread, and repeated offenders will likely be permanently removed. So please, everyone endeavor to actually respect the other's arguments, and even if you strongly disagree with them please stay civil and mindful when it comes to responding to others.

In addition, users should refrain from talking about off-site users in the thread. Bear in mind that this does not mean that you cannot continue to post tumblr posts, for example, that add onto the discussion in the thread, with the caveat that it's related to RWBY of course. But any objections to offsite users in the thread should be handled via PM, or they'll be treated as thread violations and infracted as such.

Memory must be failing me. I thought she offered to help train him. That's generally the fastest way to help someone become less shit.
I was referring to his combat skills. She hadn't when I stopped to post.

The revelation shortly afterwards explains a lot. Does beg the question of J as a master criminal and whether Ozzy was really fooled, though.

...P is real thirsty, tho. And seriously, is birdy just stalking them? "Overheard you from my dorm" my ass.

Personally I'm a fan, worts and all, but I honestly think a lot of fans are in denial over why they like this show, which is that it was a labor of love by Monty Oum.
While that plays a part in my love of the show the fact is for all its flaws RWBY represents a lot of what I enjoy in media, I genuinely like the characters, the setting and when it focusses on them I think its great, its when it focusses on romance, Jaune, slice of life, Jaune, or tries too hard on the comedy I dislike it.

Yyyyyyeah, Season 1 suffers from a severe overdose of Jaune Arc. If you don't like him, and I don't think there's anybody that'd blame you for not liking him, it's gonna be bumpy ride for a bit.

I understand that this plotline only works if you do it early on, but holy man did it drag.
His Arc dragged on a bit, yeah.

So far, I've been assuming Ozpin knows, because Jaune's relative lack of skill (and, y'know, Aura) in the forest is too egregious to assume otherwise. Everyone else displays fairly consistent competence, but Jaune is basically useless as anything but a tactician (which he's competent at).

...P is real thirsty, tho.
Yeah. Yeah, she is.

"Magnets are cool too!"

Okay, I admit it. I lol'd.

Blah blah Blake's obviously a Faunus and weirdo robot girl stuff

This episode definitely showcases that the run cycles are some of the jankier animations, and that monkey flip away...

By the by, I really, desperately want to like Weiss, but Jesus fuck whoever was writing this just keeps going to her to introduce their conflict via her being a bitch, while Yang just kind of rots on the vine.

...huh. You know, I totally called it with her being a robot and all, but I didn't expect her to be a Murakumo unit. Also, what is it with all these side girls being better than the main characters(aside from Blake, I actually like Blake a lot)? Also 100% non-lethal lasers lolwut?

What is the Murakumo? I assume its a Ship Girls thing?
I'm pretty sure Salty is referring to the Murakumo Units from the videogames Blazblue, long story short they are a sort of cyborg girls created to explore the local equivalent of the Warp and who are ridiculously hard to kill. (and often even then manage to come back to life)
Which doesn't really relate to Penny's case, since the latter is 100% mechanic.

EDIT: Salty is probably referring to Penny's fight style with her floating blades, which is a blatant reference to the Murakumo Units' fighting style.

I'm pretty sure he knows about Jaune. One theory is that Ozpin is trying to recruit as many people as possible for the events to come, and thus is ready to be much more flexible on the admissions in Beacon, explaining why he proposed Ruby to join two years in advance for example.

Her bitchy character at this point is made on purpose.

OK those look awesome, thanks for the info.

Starting up Season 2, I think.

President jokes and a food fight? Alright, they seem to have finally figured out that high-energy is the way to go.

And yes Nora, you are indeed the Queen of Der Kestle.

...Udder Satisfaction? Sigh.

Hmm, Monty seems to have realized that his particle work was often the most vibrant thing in his fight scenes, so we're getting more of it with these watermelon chunks.

...Swordfish vs the Invincible Super Melon.

Alright, that thing with the debris? That is what I'm talking about.

You know Cinder, if you want people to do their jobs well, being cryptic and sinister doesn't help.

Monty has stated that he didn't want you to necessarily like all of the characters from the get go. He really liked characters that—twenty episodes in—you realize you like. Naturally, there has to be some likeability in the first place, but I like the sentiment.

Also, I wanted to give my thoughts on the Japanese RWBY Dub clip that was released just a bit ago. Overall, I'm very pleased with both the episode clip and what we can see from the trailer footage. Ruby and Jaune stand out with Hayami Saori's energetic performance really showing off her character, and Shimono Hiro's awkward Jaune during the launch was especially hilarious. Ruby's "Heeh...?" in the episode clip was great, as was her asking for Glynda's sign(ature). A note to everyone complaining about Torchwick being nowhere near as sarcastic: in Japan, sarcasm and sarcastic humor are frowned upon, so you will be hard pressed to find an actual sarcastic character in any Japanese show. Torchwick was fine, but I want to see how he is during ep. 16 to give my final verdict on him. I will need to warm up to Inoue Kazuhiko's Ozpin, as he doesn't quite nail the mysterious and calculating vibe Shannon gives off, but again, I want to see how he is during dialogue before I give final judgments. One thing I was disappointed by was their choice of footage for the final scene of the trailer, which spoils Blake's involvement with the White Fang (yes, it is howaito fangu, not shiroi kiba), as I feel they could have better served a part during the argument in Vale.

I was also pleased to see how well their lip sync was, as only Ozpin's line during the cliff scene really felt off. Was also happy that Yang doesn't sound too much like Ryuuko, as they have completely different attitudes. I'm liking Weiss so far, but Blake needs a little more dialogue until I can get used to her. Nora's hyperactive dream recollection was just as hilarious as in the actual show, but RLR II playing behind it didn't really give it the right snap (but that's a trailer only problem). Will have to see about Ren, but he's horribly quiet for both of the first two volumes (doesn't he have more lines in Vol. 3 than in 1 and 2 combined?). Pyrrha was fine, but right now I'm the most curious about Port and Oobleck. I'm glad they've kept them unspoiled for now, but I really want to see what they do for them. If Oobleck is anywhere near as energetic as Nora, I'll be happy, and the boring drawl from Port is a must. But I'll just have to wait and find out.

...Ye gods and little fishes. They've still got Jaune hung up on Weiss while Thirstmistress Pyrrha hangs out in the background.

Awwwwww yeaaaaaaahhhh, it's robot time bitches.

...I see Ruby agrees.

Oh, hey there Junior. I see Yang's decided it's time to blow up your club again.

Alrighty, it's time for mecha fighting! My word, they finally managed to animate something with a run cycle that has some weight in it. There's that particle excellence again with the fog of ice shards.

...holy shit Weiss knows Haste! Ruby's play-naming leaves something to be desired tho.

...wow that was a clunky bit of exposition that just reinforces how much Yang has been out of focus up until now.

Well hello there bichromatic girl. What's your deal?

...just how many places does Oldman own?

Alright, this fight between the Thirstmistress and Bird Team is more the kind of thing I was hoping to see.

Guess it's time for Douchelord McGunboots. I see Monty took reference from Taekwondo.

Oh god they're still doing the "Jaune's infatuated with Weiss" thing.

Who is that? I got the other 2, and the last one is making me think Cinder, but I have no idea why you'd call her that.

I believe 'Thirsty' is the new fan way of talking about characters in unrequited love. I don't know, I just like what I like and don't stress too much following these new fangled fandom terms. (I didn't even know what 'shipping' was until a year after the term had entered common parlance ). So I believe it's a reference to Pyrra.

Personally as relationship troubles go I like Nora more than Pyrra. Pyrra has no reason to lack confidence in approaching Jaun and letting him know how she feels, while Nora has sympathetic reasons to be afraid that admitting her feelings will change the pre-existing relationship she values with Ren.

Edit : Also Nora's song is better.

Oh my god they're actually having Jaune whine about Whitey to Pyrrha's face. Could this plot point go ahead and die faster? Please?

Haha, laser pointers and cats. Dumb, yet clever enough to be actually funny.

Samurai Shampoo, lol. Man, Ren not wanting to have this awkward excuse for a conversation half-naked is so relatable.

...That said, this plot needs to die in the firiest fire ever, it drags so much.
