RWBY Thread III: Time To Say Goodbye

Stop: So gotta few things that need to be said real quick.
so gotta few things that need to be said real quick.
We get a lot of reports from this thread. A lot of it is just a series of people yelling at each other over arguments that have been rehashed hundreds of times since the end of the recent Volume. And I get that the last Volume - and RWBY in general, really - has some controversial moments that people will want to discuss, argue about, debate, etc.

That's fine. We're not going to stop people from doing that, because that's literally what the point of the thread is. However, there's just a point where it gets to be a bit too much, and arguments about whether or not Ironwood was morally justified in his actions in the recent Volume, or if RWBY and her team were in the right for withholding information from Ironwood out of distrust, or whatever flavor of argument of the day descend into insulting other posters, expressing a demeaning attitude towards other's opinions, and just being overall unpleasant. That tends to happen a lot in this thread. We want it to stop happening in this thread.

So! As of now the thread is in a higher state of moderation. What that means is that any future infractions will result in a weeklong boot from the thread, and repeated offenders will likely be permanently removed. So please, everyone endeavor to actually respect the other's arguments, and even if you strongly disagree with them please stay civil and mindful when it comes to responding to others.

In addition, users should refrain from talking about off-site users in the thread. Bear in mind that this does not mean that you cannot continue to post tumblr posts, for example, that add onto the discussion in the thread, with the caveat that it's related to RWBY of course. But any objections to offsite users in the thread should be handled via PM, or they'll be treated as thread violations and infracted as such.

More then one
Salem, Cinder, Emerald - pin their love and life on one thing, and lose it when it is taken

Ruby and the others - have had the love and support of others

there difference is clear.

The mocking of the "If Ironwood had done his job the Grimm river would have been dealt with" would hold more weight if the people doing it actually understood what they were talking about, but I'll simplify it for them.

1: If Ironwood hadn't been fucking over Mantle's defenses the Grimm wouldn't have been able to tear through the city so easily, making evacuation easier or even unnecessary, and ensured there were people and drones on the wall who could see the river approaching before it got there letting them be more prepared.

2: If he hadn't opted to leave everyone in Mantle to die, they'd either already be leaving via the staff or have had eyes across the city who could have seen it approaching and or heard the call on the subject, rather than just ignoring the place, again allowing them to actually respond.

Its all very simple, by neglecting Mantle, by neglecting its people and the world below, Ironwood got snuck up on, again, its a recurring theme with him.

Its a pattern of abuse!

Also gosh the animation is so expressive now!

See the Cinder backstory makes me think she's going to overcome Salem's control like she did the necklace. Problem is I see where that's coming from but I kind of don't want her as a separate rogue faction that kind of divides the heroes' priorities. Feels like Salem should be single endpoint now, not stop to deal with Cindee first unless it's a lesd up to the final Salem confrontation. I'm much more a fan of the idea that Cinder gets overtaken by the Grimm arm.

well
rogue can still work without dividing priorities. I've seen a few times in Kamen Rider and Super Sentai where the Lancer/Dark Horse general (who usually has a feud with the Red Ranger/Main Rider of the antagonist group) sometimes break off to either;
pursue a personal objective
do a good
or just have enough with their boss' shit and chose to fight on their terms.

one example is Rio The Black Lion from GekiRanger. For a good chunk of the season he was THE main antagonist, but eventually that changed as we got more story on the character and why they fought for power. He and GekiRed traded fights all show, but in the end the True Big Bad showed themself as an immortal, multiheaded dragon. Rio, having slowly grown and changed, and alongside their loyal lady sidekick Mele, joined the GekiRangers and their Masters in working together to try and seal the Dragon. At a crucial point Rio even makes a sacrifice play to save the GekiRangers and give them that last push to finish the job.

so for Cinder, she could spend the final arcs of RWBY in the future fighting against her own arm in one last struggle to be free and take control of her life, and join the heroes in a final push against The Witch.

also
to add more about the Gekiranger thing
Rio is decked head to toe in black leather
Mele is loyal to him alone and her color is green
The Dragon, Long, that they are initially serving is Immortal
Rio has a rivalry with the RED Ranger.
Rio is all about that Power of Hatred

Also, character song

Kuroki Kodou ~Yuruginai Omoi~
Come, seeking power now
with outstretched hands
The inside of your locked heart is already broken
The shape of love is crumbling
drowning in darkness, believe only in power

Gentle! Violent!
When you open your eyes
Throw away love and become a lion
Today! The future!
You can hold them in those hands!
Seek strength
Soaked in passion!

It is not filled yet
This gap in your heart
There is no place of refuge
From being burdened with sadness

This nightmare, being hit by the rain
When the tears die in the end, believe in hatred

Distorted love
In whirling darkness
Roaring lion with a black pulse
Certainly! With these hands!
And a steady mind
I'll grasp it. Until this day
Rain will pour in my heart

Gentle! Violent!
If you open your eyes
you throw away love and become a lion
Today! The future!
You can hold them in those hands!
Seek strength
Soaked in passion!

Chigireta Hane
There's nothing that I am afraid of already,
how I am to die and be buried.
Even with the red, red coloured sky,
Overflowed with blackness again immediately .

The stars that are falling from the darkness in the sky
Uh-uh, often wishes can be crowded,
and the extent of this voice being blasted
If I became the star,
Will you, for me, be the one that wished for the light?

What if I became the rain,
Will you be that one that loved me?
The love that I yearn for, the sea that is not dirty,
The feather of the fighting angel torned apart.

Come, be prepared, from now on,
because I'll be seriously going out, to show you.
Yes, the power of love is violent and strong
because there's wings that can change fate

Come, be prepared, from now on,
because I'll be seriously going out, to show you.
because, this body, even if destroyed,
will become the light that protect you

while I am thinking about Cinder

What do we think would happen if Cinder pushed her Semblance, Scorching Caress, to the breaking limit?
Like, take away the Grimm Arm and Maiden Powers we have seen her have the ability to burn shit with her touch.
So let's say she throws caution to the wind and just cling to a target with all her might as she uses her whole body as a contact point for it?

Salem - "You have nothing now, Cinder. I have taken back MY gifts to you. What can you even do?"

Cinder - *glares, then smirks, before suddenly charging and tackling Salem, gaining a struggling hold with her one arm and both legs* "I still have something that is mine and mine alone, something I had before ANYONE tried to "help" me. Now BURN." *and just holds tight as she pushes out the power of her semblance through every inch of her body, making Salem scream and thrash in pain* *however the longer this goes, soon Cinder' own flesh begins to burn and boil as Cinder grits her teeth and fights through the pain*

There's definitely some set up for it, still I imagine if it does happen it'll likely either be season finale content or later down the line and Cinder may go full rogue and just peace out of Atlas to go after Raven or the Summer Maiden instead, leaving the heroes to focus on Salem.

That could be pretty epic.

Hmm...
Something similar to what happened when
Angor turned against Morgana, perhaps?

Wow, I chose a time to get back into RWBY.

I burnt out on the show partway through Volume 5, around episode 4 or so. I just wasn't feeling and the RWDE crowd was making the parts I actually liked a slog, especially since I was going through problems with college.

I heard good things about V6+ so I came back in, knocked out Volume 5 without really engaging fandom/discussion elements at all, and then got just pulled in by Volumes 6,7, and 8. And now I've fully caught up just before episode 7 and the three months pause (cries in manly tears). Ah well.

Welcome back, and thanks a ton for all the ratings ;)

I'm glad its been a positive experience this time around, and my sympathies on the ill timed return!

But hey, more time for meta!

Oh, this seven week wait will be hysterical. Whatever cliffhanger they give us will drive everyone round the bend with panicked speculation.

Also, I can't believe I didn't see anyone talking about the MASSIVE Ladybug moment in V8:E3. Move over Bumblebee, move over Nuts & Dolts, there's a new cannon couple in the house!

Ruby left Blake weak at the knees before Yang did :p

I think Atlas is already in plenty of peril, and it is largely Ironwood's fault.

The rest of the credit should of course go to Salem for organising such a masterful exercise in divide and conquer. But without Ironwood's insecurity her position would not be nearly so strong.

Ironwood, Salem, Cinder, Watts and Jacques are the ones that deserve the blame/credit for Atlas being fucked.

Presumably also the unnamed former councilor who sided with Ironwood against Sleet and Carmilla.

Especially since that councilor seems to have been Mantle's representative.

Though for all we know, at one point that councilor did try to improve the situation in Mantle but was blocked by some combination of Sleet, Carmilla, and/or Ironwood.

Or maybe Mantle's representative never sided with Ironwood, but Sleet and Carmilla originally sided with Ironwood when they were scared of war, and they've only turned against Ironwood when war failed to materialize and he's still running roughshod over them.

True, true. I suppose I gave them a pass because they're either dead by Ironwood, or traumatized (by Ironwood) and unlikely to do anything more to fuck things up.

A closer look at the Disc Grenade. Neat detail, apparently the shield size is variable based on how long the activation button is held. That makes it even more potentially useful since it can be scaled to the situation at hand. I hope the settings we've seen so far aren't the biggest, it could really use a proper "block off a street" option.

Also I see dummies in the comments are still complaining about the Tank Build getting more Tank style powers, as if this is a whooly incomprehensible concept rather than the basic building blocks of all sort of video and tabletop games and fantasy stories.

Extra hilarious for complaining about Jaune doing nothing but blocking when one of the first fights in the season was him decapitating a fucking dragon while jousting on a hover bike and then followed up by him launching a grown man sky high with his shield's gravity blast, cutting his way through a small army of centinels while also driving a bike at high speeds and freaking bouncing on centinels with his shield like a Super Mario character and then capping the whole thing off by demonstrating that with a little bit of creativity a ranged barrier can be used for a lot more than just blocking attacks.
