RWBY Thread III: Time To Say Goodbye

Stop: So gotta few things that need to be said real quick.
so gotta few things that need to be said real quick.
We get a lot of reports from this thread. A lot of it is just a series of people yelling at each other over arguments that have been rehashed hundreds of times since the end of the recent Volume. And I get that the last Volume - and RWBY in general, really - has some controversial moments that people will want to discuss, argue about, debate, etc.

That's fine. We're not going to stop people from doing that, because that's literally what the point of the thread is. However, there's just a point where it gets to be a bit too much, and arguments about whether or not Ironwood was morally justified in his actions in the recent Volume, or if RWBY and her team were in the right for withholding information from Ironwood out of distrust, or whatever flavor of argument of the day descend into insulting other posters, expressing a demeaning attitude towards other's opinions, and just being overall unpleasant. That tends to happen a lot in this thread. We want it to stop happening in this thread.

So! As of now the thread is in a higher state of moderation. What that means is that any future infractions will result in a weeklong boot from the thread, and repeated offenders will likely be permanently removed. So please, everyone endeavor to actually respect the other's arguments, and even if you strongly disagree with them please stay civil and mindful when it comes to responding to others.

In addition, users should refrain from talking about off-site users in the thread. Bear in mind that this does not mean that you cannot continue to post tumblr posts, for example, that add onto the discussion in the thread, with the caveat that it's related to RWBY of course. But any objections to offsite users in the thread should be handled via PM, or they'll be treated as thread violations and infracted as such.

Funny thing, right after the flashback ep in Volume 3, it occured to me that Adam could be a weak point in Cinders plan. I wondered if he'd get word to Blake, or sabotage Cinder in some way. But no, he was more then happy to unleash Grimm on civilian targets. He went along with that. He decided, all on his own, to screw over the cause he claimed he was fighting for. If he was merely scared for his own life, it'd be cowardly but understandable somewhat. But no, it was made very clear when he ran into Blake it was because he just liked killing and hurting people.

Don't forget at the end of V2 after The Breach when Emerald questions if the White Fang will still listen to them, and that was when Adam made his on screen debut in the series proper by saying "They'll listen to me."

Indeed, plus he was clearly away from Cinder for some time with no watcher, he could have easily gone to Sienna and explained the situation but he didn't, because this served his interests.

So, one theory I found on the internet was that Penny obtained Fria's aura which was tied to the Maiden Powers as opposed to just becoming the Winter Maiden.

To sum up the theory:

We've seen how Penny is able to accumilate other people's Auras via Pietro's Aura transfer and that Atlas was planning on making something to " Capture it and cram it into something else" as Qrow puts it. Winter also says how Fria's "a part of Penny now" and the animation showed that the transfer happened via touch. It's noted that the Maiden powers are tied to one's Aura, so the conclusion is that Penny didn't just get Fria's Maidenhood, but also her Aura.

While we're on the subject, I've never really understood the reluctance some people have with the message of Penny being a real person.

It just seems so bizarre, it's not exactly like it's a unique message or storyline.

1 - they don't like her
2 - "the Pinocchio stuff is shoved in our face/crammed down our throats"
3 - Pietro is a man
4 - Winter should of gotten the powers because reasons

take your pic.

sounds like a way to weasel out of the cosmic acknowledgement that penny is a real girl.
No. It's just giving a theory on how Penny was able to become a Maiden using evidence that the show has expressed. Metaphorically, yes, Penny became a real girl and all that, but theoritically, it also happened because she took Fria's Aura.

There's some pretty clear trans subtext to Penny's storyline, so not super surprising that there would be some dogwhistling backlash from the transphobic sections of the viewership.

For me I don't have a problem with Penny getting maiden power. My only problem is when people downplay or ignore Fria mental health and act that she was completely aware of everything.

She just hits way to many familiar notes with people with Alzheimer's for me not to be annoyed when people say like she doesn't.

I agree that Fria had Alzheimer's/Dementia but what difference does that make to the plot?

I'm just gonna paraphrase what a wise soul said to me on the matter of Fria.

Namely that she was lucid when it came to judging Penny worthy of becoming the Maiden whatever else can be said about her mental health at the time doesn't change that or as they noted rob her of agency.

I won't be arguing it further however as I am very sleepy & it will likely go in circles.

I had a thought today.

Some of you may have heard about the Space Jam sequel. Basically, it's now a massive crossover theoretically involving every franchise owned by Warner Bros.

Warner Bros. owns Rooster Teeth.

And therefore, Warner Bros. owns RWBY.

Therefore, the cast of RWBY could theoretically appear in Space Jam.

What happens next?

Are we prepared for the consequences?

OK, they go out of their way to specify "movies", so I'm guessing RWBY won't get more than a cameo at best. But still. One must ask the dangerous questions.

I'm honestly surprised RT hasn't done work with the NBA. Most of those guys have Twitch channels and RT or at least AH were some of the biggest names in Let's Plays not that long ago.

what does one say to people who demand "hard evidence" as to why Penny, an artificial being, can be a Maiden without going into headcanons or "MaH tHeMeS" as they put it.

Tell them that there was never any evidence that biology was necessary to the Maiden process. They simply assumed that Maidens had to be human with no evidence
