RWBY Thread III: Time To Say Goodbye

Stop: So gotta few things that need to be said real quick.
so gotta few things that need to be said real quick.
We get a lot of reports from this thread. A lot of it is just a series of people yelling at each other over arguments that have been rehashed hundreds of times since the end of the recent Volume. And I get that the last Volume - and RWBY in general, really - has some controversial moments that people will want to discuss, argue about, debate, etc.

That's fine. We're not going to stop people from doing that, because that's literally what the point of the thread is. However, there's just a point where it gets to be a bit too much, and arguments about whether or not Ironwood was morally justified in his actions in the recent Volume, or if RWBY and her team were in the right for withholding information from Ironwood out of distrust, or whatever flavor of argument of the day descend into insulting other posters, expressing a demeaning attitude towards other's opinions, and just being overall unpleasant. That tends to happen a lot in this thread. We want it to stop happening in this thread.

So! As of now the thread is in a higher state of moderation. What that means is that any future infractions will result in a weeklong boot from the thread, and repeated offenders will likely be permanently removed. So please, everyone endeavor to actually respect the other's arguments, and even if you strongly disagree with them please stay civil and mindful when it comes to responding to others.

In addition, users should refrain from talking about off-site users in the thread. Bear in mind that this does not mean that you cannot continue to post tumblr posts, for example, that add onto the discussion in the thread, with the caveat that it's related to RWBY of course. But any objections to offsite users in the thread should be handled via PM, or they'll be treated as thread violations and infracted as such.

I'm looking forward to all this Cinder and Salem content this volume. Come on and give us that backstory CRWBY, I love all the hints we've gotten, but I wanna see it.

So something kinda funny I just realized Ironwood cut off the evacuation of mantle to stop any of Salem's spies from getting in right. And we talked about how that's dumb because Cindy was already in.
Something I didn't think about till now is the two people he caught that were working for Salem were from atlas

Sometimes the greatest threat to oneself is not from outside, but from within.

Excellent point there XD

Of course realizing both that Atlesians can and will betray Atlas and that Atlas can be infiltrated isn't something Ironwood can wrap his head around.

Maybe but I think that's dealing with what the audience knows and what the in universe people know.

We know that their are few agents of Salem and how the RWBY met all of them. But the protagonist can't know that what they saw is all their is. Using the evacuation as cover is something Salem team would absolutely use if they wanted to.

We also know how effective a few of Salem agents are in sabotage.

I mean they were making that observation as an audience member but even in universe so far all the infiltrators or traitors are either from Atlas or just rolled into Atlas. Ironwood can't strictly know that but the fact his immediate reactions is "Refugees = bad" with no consideration to Atlas based leaks is a rather clear reminder of his biases.

And, well, he found out about the infiltrators by ONE BREAKING INTO HIS OFFICE AND LEAVING A MESSAGE ON HIS DESK. THEY'RE ALREADY THERE!

Yes and their could be more coming in. Even though we know thats not the case none of the protagonists know that fact. Since they don't have access for a close up view on Salem faction like the viewer.

So with the first season of the Grimm Campaign concluded I was kinda curious about how people felt about it?

Personally I really enjoyed it, I've tried watching Critical Role and similar series but could never get into them, despite being a fan of tabletop games, the way I did with the Grimm campaign.

First off I really enjoyed the setting, Kuchinashi is fantastic, somehow having both a noir and wild west frontier feel to it beneath the overall East Asian aesthetic that's common to most of Mistral.

I also really like Team SAFR, they have an 'everyman' feel to them that sets them apart from the heroes of the main series. To me they're a good cross-section of what I imagine most Huntsmen and Huntress to be like, you've got your altruists, your fortune seekers, your honorable warrior types, as well as giving a good idea what such people are like in terms of powers and skill. I think among Arrastra and Asher are my favorites, being the braincells of the team. [I say this with love :D]

The campaign's story has been pretty fun as well, watching the heroes having to piece things with so little to go on while the mysteries pile up. Also, Team SMMK are the platonic ideal of 'love to hate' villains and I do hope our heroes will be able to kick their asses at some point.

I'm especially intrigued by the Grimm controlling necklace, my guess is it's some sort of magical artifact from the first humans. I'd actually wondered since volume 6 if that would be a thing in the main series; magic items from that era that weren't quite relic level but could none the less be dangerous as illustrated in the finale. Speaking of which I'm beginning to see why this incedent was big enough to bring to Oz and Glynda's attention

Personally I loved the Grimm Campaign and can't wait for more. I hope when season 2 rolls around they start airing season 1 episodes for everyone so that more people will get a taste of what they're missing out on.

Team SAFR needs more love. 😆

This campaign also introduced me to Talespire for which I both love it and hate it. I say hate because Talespire is currently in a closed Beta and I only heard about it after the end of the Kickstarter where one could get access to the beta. So now I'm stuck waiting who knows how long for Talespire to be ready for stores I can't wait since The Grimm Campaign reignited my love for DnD.

The artefacts are definitely magic. They say so outright at the auction. And it's mentioned several time that Pastel found the artefacts in super ancient ruins that are far older than anything else. Like several orders of magnitude older than most ancient ruins.

And it's confirmed in Fairy Tales of Remnant that 1st age humanity could enchant places and objects with magic.

That seems to be RT's approach these days so I'm confident we will get the Grimm Campaign on YT eventually.

Indeed, I'm surprised there isn't more fan art of them at this point, that said there is what appears to be concept art of the bunch floating around on Tumblr:

Speaking of SAFR do you have a favorite among the bunch?

My sympathies, I feel much the same way, Talespire is a potential godsend for TTRPG enthusiasts everywhere but it's clearly gonna be a bit before it becomes available :frown2: .

That they did, I guess I was holding out for some sort of confirmation from someone in the know about such things in series or WoG. Remember all the speculation back in the day about Raven's portals being some form of magic?

Not sure how. If the deaths of her own children or personally murdering Ozma isn't going to make her understand, how is Oscar going to?

Why does everyone keep bringing up her kids? They probably don't register with her because she blames Ozma for what happened that day.
Their break up, the death, all of it because Ozma.

Salem, in a way, is a combination of just about every major villain.

Roman - Trickery and a smooth talker
Cinder - Demands things and throws a fit when she feels robbed
Adam - "It's not my fault, it's everyone else's fault, and if you go against me I will cut you!"
Watts - Bitterness and resentment for not being chosen.
Hazel - The loss of a loved one drove them to their actions

As for how Oscar and/or Ruby could do so....well they are the more "simple souls"
We've seen Oscar try and talk people down (although it got him shot last time) but if he tries to follow Ruby's example I could seem him standing defiant before Salem and having words with her.
Ruby, on the other hand, could in theory use her life experiences to try and relate with Salem and use that as her verbal means of getting through to her.

Because maybe they're her kids?

If losing Ozma supposedly caused her to have an emotional breakdown so large, it led to the apocalypse, losing her kids should have had the same effect, but as far as we know, she just shrugged it off.
As far as Ozpin knows. Remember the question was "what is ozpin hiding from us."

That could mean one of the two things: either she did have a breakdown and Ozma don't know about it since we only got his side of the story, or she really shrugged it off and it's a sign that she already was over her humanity, but didn't go all out yet.

So I just remembered that Qrow's huntsmen license has his last name misspelt and I was about to make a joke about it.

Then I took a look at my BCID (British Columbia identification) and I notice that my name is also misspelt. So I guess government employees fucking up is probably not solely in fiction.
