RWBY Thread III: Time To Say Goodbye

Stop: So gotta few things that need to be said real quick.
so gotta few things that need to be said real quick.
We get a lot of reports from this thread. A lot of it is just a series of people yelling at each other over arguments that have been rehashed hundreds of times since the end of the recent Volume. And I get that the last Volume - and RWBY in general, really - has some controversial moments that people will want to discuss, argue about, debate, etc.

That's fine. We're not going to stop people from doing that, because that's literally what the point of the thread is. However, there's just a point where it gets to be a bit too much, and arguments about whether or not Ironwood was morally justified in his actions in the recent Volume, or if RWBY and her team were in the right for withholding information from Ironwood out of distrust, or whatever flavor of argument of the day descend into insulting other posters, expressing a demeaning attitude towards other's opinions, and just being overall unpleasant. That tends to happen a lot in this thread. We want it to stop happening in this thread.

So! As of now the thread is in a higher state of moderation. What that means is that any future infractions will result in a weeklong boot from the thread, and repeated offenders will likely be permanently removed. So please, everyone endeavor to actually respect the other's arguments, and even if you strongly disagree with them please stay civil and mindful when it comes to responding to others.

In addition, users should refrain from talking about off-site users in the thread. Bear in mind that this does not mean that you cannot continue to post tumblr posts, for example, that add onto the discussion in the thread, with the caveat that it's related to RWBY of course. But any objections to offsite users in the thread should be handled via PM, or they'll be treated as thread violations and infracted as such.

There is a new outfit change coming at some point. No Vacuo arc seems extremely unlikely.
They're heading to Vacuo. That's been in the cards since early on.

It's called Mettle. They really do love their puns.

Him burning the skin off his arm was something his semblance was active for. Christ, James.

I seriously doubt we won't have a Vacuo Arc, even assuming Salem is the only "end boss" as other analysts have noted this is more likely to mean that the Vacuo Arc will be Salem "Flying blind" so to speak, with no plan, nothing set up and everything to lose in contrast to her comparatively cool, collected handling of things so far.

We've got a ways to go before we get there.

I will say though, that while Salem not caring if she's out in the open is an advantage for her at the moment, that is subject to change in the future. Right now, it doesn't matter, Ironwood practically rolled out the welcome mat for her, and her only real opposition are severely outnumbered and outgunned. But once she's done with Atlas? All bets are off, because the people that survive and get out of there, will have every reason not to keep her a secret anymore.

It could be difficult for Neo to tell her otherwise, if Salem's eyes are glued to the prize.

Unless the icecream killer finally indulges in using her Semblance to make images of text or pictographs.
I've been thinking ever since Neo's return that she's just going along with Cinder until she can get Cinder and Ruby in the same room, after which she instantly switches sides to team up with someone she knows can beat Cinder so she can get revenge on who actually got Roman killed. And not having her contributions be acknowledged seems like the perfect reason to stop just waiting for it to happen and to make it happen.

I'd be interested to see what would happen if Salem DID notice Neo's existence.

How would the two react to each other?

But it's possible that Neo doesn't go anywhere near Salem.

I fully expect Cinder to take credit for getting the lamp while downplaying Neo's work. Also wouldn't put it past Cinder to point out how Neo was so useful while her other underlings couldn't bother having her back. Sure it was out of EM's hands but Cinder is spiteful enough to shame them over it.

Aaawwww. This is cute.

Ok so I saw that Fiona dropped for Amity Arena recently, which is neat and the description was another fun piece of in-universe bias from the Atlas folks but I didn't think much of it aside from that. The Fiona artwork was about what I expected (aside from some comments on how Fiona seemed ripped in proportion to her tiny frame) but nothing about the art stood out from any of the other AA designs. But then I saw this:

Holy carp! Those clunky crossbow staffs the Happy Huntresses use can turn into duel wielding crossbow-pistols with bayonets? Their weapons just got 300% cooler.

So, much like Fair Game, it's just a case of people on the internet making something out of nothing, taking it too far and spinning it into their own headcanon, then getting mad when it doesn't happen.

Well their twitter DID accidentally "tease" fair game like 2 or 3 times over the course of the season, so with a rabid fandom wanting M|M representation it was bound to happen. *shrugs*

I think Ruby and friends will manage to get Amity up, even if only for a few moments. They don't need it to fly/float, they just need it to be able to broadcast. And when that broadcast suddenly goes live, it will be Ruby giving the message, and this will be her big rally speech. And when it does, we'll probably get a montage of various places across Remnant Ruby's friends and allies are. Tai, The Faunus Militia, CFVY and SSSN in Vacuo, The Beacon Staff, all of them will see Ruby, alive and defiant. Those outside the Ozluminati will be shocked about Salem, and everyone will be shocked if Ruby tells the world about her Immortality, but in the end her message will be clear. Do not give in. Do not give up. Keep Moving Forward.

Whenever someone says that they wish Blake acknowledged her privilege, it sounds to me like they want Blake to apologize for being born.

Like somehow she should be ashamed for being born with ears she could hide under a bow, or born to the man who would be acknowledged as Menagerie's chieftain by people grateful for his help and leadership.

I think if she apologized to Sun for passing as a human, after she watched him get chased by the police, he would tell her to stop being weird. Her pity wouldn't make him less of a target; if he wanted to be harassed and accused less, he might not stowaway on ships and throw banana peels at cops.

If she apologized to Velvet, Velvet would likely pity Blake for being the one too scared to attend Beacon without a disguise. It's not like Velvet couldn't have tried hiding her ears under a hat.

How else could Blake "acknowledge her privilege" except to defer and submit and bow and scrape to other faunus who suffered more than her? Even when those faunus are abusive shits like Adam or murderous bastards like the White Fang who were trying to murder everyone in Beacon and Vale?

Blake stood up to Ilia when Ilia was working for the people who murdered Sienna Khan and were plotting to murder her own parents and drag her to Adam in chains. Blake lectured other faunus who were actively hurting other faunus.

And it's not like Blake ever demanded special treatment. She could have stayed safe at home on Menagerie, but chose to leave her home and family to risk death or worse at the fangs of the Grimm in the wilderness or the guns of the SDC and kingdoms. She roughed it along with the rest of them.

There's only two ways other faunus could react to Blake acknowledging her privilege. One is telling her to stop apologizing for the circumstances of her birth and start taking pride in the sacrifices she chose to make.

The other is kicking her while she's groveling and telling her to fall in line.

Yeah I feel that idea is alongside the same line as the people who said Weiss needed to see Adam's branding. Why? So she can feel guilty? It's not like she's been flaunting her family's company's actions in Blake's face or anything after v1. At no point had she said what they had done was a good thing or excused any of it. So what would the point be other than pile more angst on her?

If Amity doesn't attain greater height than it already could, its signal cannot reach the other towers. That was the entire point of the plan to raise it up so high.

There seems to be a curious idea that suffering makes one more righteous than anyone else.

I think those who grow past their suffering are the ones who become righteous.

Imagine if Adam forgave the ones who branded him. Imagine if he told them to their faces that he forgave them.

Either they would be humbled and ashamed, or they would become furious and demand to know how he thought he had the right to forgive them as though they'd done something wrong. What gave him the right to look down on them?

"How could I be looking down on you if I didn't have the moral high ground? And if you're righteous, why do you need me to hate you?"

I'm surprised people ever thought it was in doubt, but might as well post it here.

Which should have always been obvious, even from the most cynical perspective of RT riding there money maker, there was never any way they wouldn't go to Vacuo.
