RWBY Thread III: Time To Say Goodbye

Stop: So gotta few things that need to be said real quick.
so gotta few things that need to be said real quick.
We get a lot of reports from this thread. A lot of it is just a series of people yelling at each other over arguments that have been rehashed hundreds of times since the end of the recent Volume. And I get that the last Volume - and RWBY in general, really - has some controversial moments that people will want to discuss, argue about, debate, etc.

That's fine. We're not going to stop people from doing that, because that's literally what the point of the thread is. However, there's just a point where it gets to be a bit too much, and arguments about whether or not Ironwood was morally justified in his actions in the recent Volume, or if RWBY and her team were in the right for withholding information from Ironwood out of distrust, or whatever flavor of argument of the day descend into insulting other posters, expressing a demeaning attitude towards other's opinions, and just being overall unpleasant. That tends to happen a lot in this thread. We want it to stop happening in this thread.

So! As of now the thread is in a higher state of moderation. What that means is that any future infractions will result in a weeklong boot from the thread, and repeated offenders will likely be permanently removed. So please, everyone endeavor to actually respect the other's arguments, and even if you strongly disagree with them please stay civil and mindful when it comes to responding to others.

In addition, users should refrain from talking about off-site users in the thread. Bear in mind that this does not mean that you cannot continue to post tumblr posts, for example, that add onto the discussion in the thread, with the caveat that it's related to RWBY of course. But any objections to offsite users in the thread should be handled via PM, or they'll be treated as thread violations and infracted as such.

hmmmmm...

Anyone else hope we get a response to Divide at some point before the end of the series?

Probably. Maybe in the Volume where they end up proving Salem wrong.

Keep in mind that part of the song is all about blaming Ozpin for the shit he did and then saying how all it takes to divide humanity is to "plant seeds of doubt", and so far, the good guys ended up being divided because of those very seeds of doubt (though some were not planted by Salem) and that the kids still don't like Ozpin as far as they're concerned.

If there is a response song that proves her wrong, it will mostly depend on if Volume 8 or 9 will end in the heroes prevailing in unifying humanity against Salem and accepting Ozpin back, since those two would be the ultimate counterpoints to the song.

I'm kind of hoping the series will end with Oz finishing his original conversation with Salem as we get a epilogue montage or whatnot. Then you can include an Oz counter to Divide then.

God, I love to hate Fionas bio so much. The real life writers did a great job with the in-universe casual racism, and I want to shake their hands and then possibly just shake them :)

(*2 a.m. ramblings*)
what other songs do we want to see a new part for?
what about characters with song stories?

not sure what else story wise you can do with Weiss

Divide and I'm The One could have potential with a part 2 of some kind

what else?

It astounds me the kind of racist framing that Amity Arena's in-universe team gets away with when Atlas should want to portray itself in the best light possible.

Atlas isn't even supposed to be the most racist kingdom... though I can understand how Atlas City would be more racist than Mantle, where the faunus population is likely much higher and regular humans share burdens with them.

Makes me wonder how much worse the situation is in Mistral. We didn't get to see much of Mistral itself, but we know its where Sienna Khan felt the need to have her headquarters.

Aaaaaaaaand what does this have to do with RWBY?
I think you posted this in the wrong thread?

Nope. I feel I posted this in the proper thread mainly because of Red's main take and a quote from Terry Pratchett she shares.

for those that don't feel like sitting through the video, here is the quote in question

Now, after looking at said quote, I want you to think on WHY I feel this fits RWBY threads.

No, I refuse to sit here and ponder what point you're trying to make. Either say something or don't, don't try and act like some professor in a classroom.

Yeeesh fine. Sorry if you feel insulted by me trying to get people to think.

Here is my point. There are people out there that feel RWBY and Ruby are dumb for trying to be optimistic, hopeful, and all that stuff. There are people and characters that feel things are hopeless and some who feel it is Ruby/RWBY's fault. However hope is not dumb, foolish, or childish, and Ruby is not as naïve as people think she is, as many others have also pointed out. Despite how dark, hopeless, and even "grim" their world is, Ruby holds onto that hope. The hope that things can be better and that that has been her main drive. Series creator Monty had even once spoken upon the "Indomitable spirit of man" and part of that spirit IS hope. Raven, Leo, and most recently Ironwood have given up hope that they can stand up against Salem, but Ruby hasn't. Despite seemingly impossible odds Ruby is willing to stand, and I find that admirable. So I say I stand with Ruby, I will keep that hope that life is not in vain.

Now that I have maid my point, what say the rest of you?

For future reference @Pugman just posting a video with nothing else isn't helpful for anyone. At the very least you need to provide a summary for the video and how you feel it ties into the thread when you post so that other posters have something to work off of other than confusion. Not everyone can, or wants to, sit through a video to guess at its relation to the topic.

But otherwise, let's put this discussion to rest and get back to a more RWBY-centric conversation if we please. It clearly won't go anywhere good.

Man, that year went fast though. Feels like volume 7 only just came out.

Except you weren't trying to get people to think. You were trying to show how clever you are. That's not the same thing.
I think they were just trying to stir up a conversation VS making a blunt statement.

Anyway I agree Pugman, RWBY is very much a hope punk show and its characters reflect that, a major theme of the series is the push pull between despair and hope, giving up and continuing forward, bitterness vs optimism so that quote fits it well and is honestly more engaging to me than "Everything is miserable, let's justify hard men making hard decisions that aren't hard for them"

Also something about RWBY's wardrobe:

Amen. Ruby Rose is more mature then her critics give her credit for. She knows the world is cruel and flawed, and she can't cure all its ills. But that doesn't stop her from trying to do something about it anyway. From slaying monsters to caring for a scared robot girl that isn't sure how real she is, she cares.

just had a thought;
while I doubt Phoenix is correct in his theory that Glynda is The Crown of Choice like how Jinn is The Lamp of Knowledge
BUT, she could still be connected TO the crown in a way.
If she is connected, then I'd say she is the descendent of The King and The Widow. While others have speculated that The King is Another Oz, I don't think that's the case. If the story was of Another Oz I feel there would of been 2 tells in the tale. One, The King would of recognized it sooner. Two, there would of been signs that there was more to him then just a kind King (like how there were tells in The Infinite Man and how people picked up on there being more to Ozpin from the start). As for Glynda, the crown could of become a family insignia over the years and thus she now has it on her outfit. It would give her a tie to the relic, oz, and the fable.

But in the end there is probably no real deep in-universe reason why Glynda's symbol is a crown. In the end she was probably just a very skilled and dedicated huntress Oz liked and trusted enough to have in his current Circle.

I don't know if any of you have posted this yet, but this person has compiled the various leitmotifs from the score into videos on their youtube channel:

The Grimm Campaign is a lot of fun:

Pyke scored a major own goal there, but that moment earlier in the episode where he managed to make Opal of all people dumbstruck by using his Semblance to guess the "secret knock" to her bar was awesome and hilarious. Especially because he did something so major for such a stupid reason. Truly he is Fool's Gold. XD

Also this moment was cute:

This is a mechanic I would love to see in vanilla D&D/Pathfinder:

If anyone asks you what the Grimm Campaign is about, just show them this image. Poor Arrastra.

I really hope they release that playtest episode. It sounds amazing.

Also someone made an interesting observation about the Headmasters:

Get yourself a right hand (wo) man

Thanks to the Grimm Campaign and the novels, we know have a fuller picture of the four Academies and their headmasters. Namely, an idea of their relationships and one thing stands out to me. Ozpin,...
