RWBY Thread III: Time To Say Goodbye

Stop: So gotta few things that need to be said real quick.
so gotta few things that need to be said real quick.
We get a lot of reports from this thread. A lot of it is just a series of people yelling at each other over arguments that have been rehashed hundreds of times since the end of the recent Volume. And I get that the last Volume - and RWBY in general, really - has some controversial moments that people will want to discuss, argue about, debate, etc.

That's fine. We're not going to stop people from doing that, because that's literally what the point of the thread is. However, there's just a point where it gets to be a bit too much, and arguments about whether or not Ironwood was morally justified in his actions in the recent Volume, or if RWBY and her team were in the right for withholding information from Ironwood out of distrust, or whatever flavor of argument of the day descend into insulting other posters, expressing a demeaning attitude towards other's opinions, and just being overall unpleasant. That tends to happen a lot in this thread. We want it to stop happening in this thread.

So! As of now the thread is in a higher state of moderation. What that means is that any future infractions will result in a weeklong boot from the thread, and repeated offenders will likely be permanently removed. So please, everyone endeavor to actually respect the other's arguments, and even if you strongly disagree with them please stay civil and mindful when it comes to responding to others.

In addition, users should refrain from talking about off-site users in the thread. Bear in mind that this does not mean that you cannot continue to post tumblr posts, for example, that add onto the discussion in the thread, with the caveat that it's related to RWBY of course. But any objections to offsite users in the thread should be handled via PM, or they'll be treated as thread violations and infracted as such.

No what I meant was that Ozpins magical powers that he later divided among the maidens is what he tapped into via his Aura experiments that the gods took notice of. The reincarnation is still the true curse.

As for Salem, possibly a creation of the God of Darkness that he lost control of.
I maintain that Ozpin is lying, and that he and Salem are the God(esse)s of Light and Darkness respectively, and the entire conflict between the two is actually the result of a very bad break up.

Just watched Volume 5.

Loved it. Also, for critique about the fight scenes, I came to accept that it will decrease in quality with Monty's passing. But hey, we got the Battle of the Bitches, which was incredible.

Also, this was Yang's volume. She developed a ton.

Also why is Ruby is still the protagonist? Like, she's done little if anything...

This one of my gripes with the show, in that it never focuses much on the title character.

Ruby isn't the title character, though. The title is RWBY, after all, so the whole team are the "title character." Ruby just happens to be the leader who thus gets top billing; remember, the series was first hyped up with a trailer for each of them, Ruby just got hers first.

What Leingod says is true, I don't resent other members of RWBY getting focus, I do however resent Jaune and other frankly less necessary stuff getting more focus than Ruby or her scenes being all about other people.

Well consider how everyone ended up coming to Ruby when she decided to head to Mistral. First JNR, then Yang, then Weiss, and then Blake.

That aren't against Grimm.

To be fair, given both her motivation (protect people from monsters) and her powers (anti-Grimm and maybe anti-magic in general), it sort of makes sense that Ruby's a bit overspecialized toward Grimm-slaying.

And hell, if it weren't for Salem being savvy enough not to rely entirely on Grimm, that wouldn't even be overspecialization, it'd just be smart.

Also: the food fight. She won that. She also got the better of two separate members of Team BRNZ in the first match in the Vytal Festival, both times taking them out of the fight until a teammate helped them. I think the only real problem is that Ruby is consistently matched up against villains who actually matter to the plot and whom the plot can't really afford her to have her beat just yet, whereas the rest of the team gets a few unique-looking mooks and minibosses to tangle with to keep their win:loss ratio high in every volume. So basically, Ruby's problem is that she's the only one who consistently gets to fight villains who actually matter, but because they matter she doesn't get to decisively win.

Roman was schooling her before he became Grimm chow. And Neo got knocked off because she didn't have the high ground.

But yeah, Ruby is gonna be pivotal against Salem since she's as Anti-Grimm as can be.

Also, did anyone LOVE that part when Yang left her prosthetic arm to Jerkucry and while her eyes flashed red, she held herself back to get to Raven.

And she beat Raven by talking.

Best girl has come a long way. And I love it.

And Neo got knocked off because she didn't have the high ground.

Technically, the high ground is the exact reason she got taken out of the fight. And it's definitely not a "kinda" just because Ruby didn't kick her ass conventionally; you don't need to prove you're the better fighter to be the winner, after all.

Also even if she didn't beat him herself Ruby was basically the cause of Roman's death and her taking down the airship saved basically everyone's asses. The volume 3 finale was basically

1) Pyrrha
2) Ruby
3) Weiss
4) Blake
5) Yang

In terms of focus. And with Yang being completely sidelined in Volume 4 it makes sense to make her the big star in Volume 5. Especially since no other volume has focused as much on Yang.

TBF, it is called RWBY, which is short for Ruby Weiss Blake Yang. Volume 5 was the Yang show, which I loved a ton. I think Volume 4 was centered around Weiss too...

A lot of Blake feature in there too. Ruby being with a team meant she shared more time with Jaune/Ren/Nora, the latter of two who got their flashbacks, and eventually Qrow.

Some more Cross Tag info:

Gamestops have a beta of the game in kiosks in some places right now: got to play the game a bit today. It looks fun.

Some of my friends are streaming the demo later on at Twitch I might pop on some of their streams once the game is released.

Also, Switch and PS4 are going to get demos in Japan in May. Would not be surprised if America gets it too. Unfortunately, Europe version is going to be delayed a bit, and no word on PC version release date yet.

Preview vid of the kiosk is up.

So is RWBY Chibi on hiatus while they do Nomad of Nowhere, or this just going to be a really short season?
