RWBY Thread III: Time To Say Goodbye

Stop: So gotta few things that need to be said real quick.
so gotta few things that need to be said real quick.
We get a lot of reports from this thread. A lot of it is just a series of people yelling at each other over arguments that have been rehashed hundreds of times since the end of the recent Volume. And I get that the last Volume - and RWBY in general, really - has some controversial moments that people will want to discuss, argue about, debate, etc.

That's fine. We're not going to stop people from doing that, because that's literally what the point of the thread is. However, there's just a point where it gets to be a bit too much, and arguments about whether or not Ironwood was morally justified in his actions in the recent Volume, or if RWBY and her team were in the right for withholding information from Ironwood out of distrust, or whatever flavor of argument of the day descend into insulting other posters, expressing a demeaning attitude towards other's opinions, and just being overall unpleasant. That tends to happen a lot in this thread. We want it to stop happening in this thread.

So! As of now the thread is in a higher state of moderation. What that means is that any future infractions will result in a weeklong boot from the thread, and repeated offenders will likely be permanently removed. So please, everyone endeavor to actually respect the other's arguments, and even if you strongly disagree with them please stay civil and mindful when it comes to responding to others.

In addition, users should refrain from talking about off-site users in the thread. Bear in mind that this does not mean that you cannot continue to post tumblr posts, for example, that add onto the discussion in the thread, with the caveat that it's related to RWBY of course. But any objections to offsite users in the thread should be handled via PM, or they'll be treated as thread violations and infracted as such.

Like, I sort of see Pyrrha. She's the sacrificial lamb. Her job is to die. Her entire purpose in the cast is to get killed off at the end of V3, to be the definitive hammer moment for the audience that Crap Is Real.
Funny thought I had on that topic: Pyrrha dying exacerbated the cast-bloat problem. Consider: Jaune's huge role thus far has been deeply problematic, and while Ren and Nora are quite likable they're also a bit extraneous when the writers are complaining about the cast being too big. But it's kind of hard to have Jaune, Ren and Nora step back to being minor characters at this point because they have this fucking huge personal impetus to be involved: Cinder killed their friend.

(I'd rather keep Ilya and ditch Oscar, personally. Having Ozpin come back basically means that RWBY is just getting led around by him instead of doing things on their own initiative. There's a reason that mentors so frequently get killed off: so the protagonist can come out of their shadow and into their own.)

We will have to wait and see I suppose but worrying about Sun tagging along does not seem like something worth being worried about.
Well, it would be nice if you wound up being correct, but past experience is not encouraging. I guess we'll find out in a year.

Unfortunately very much true. The best I could hope for is for Ren and Nora, being less connected to Pyrrha, to view it as "our comrade fell in the battle against Salem; we shall fight the war in her name" and then be sent to do something else offscreen. For Jaune, though, it's personal. (Moreso with Jaune, because they've committed to Jaune as a protagonist, wherever Jaune goes, the camera and the screen time will follow, so the best thing to do with him is to keep him integrated with RWBY and the main plot so we don't get another Jaundice moment.)

Given how V5 ended, I think Ozpin's going to be leaving Oscar in charge of his own body for most of V6, possibly surfacing only to drop hints and direction of varying crypticness as the plot requires. But I actually agree with you. Bringing Oz back in Oscar wasn't a horrible decision, but making Oscar into a main cast member was.

Honestly, RWBY treats its cast like it's a series of doorstopper books. They have really good character creation work, but nowhere enough space to tell the stories that those characters demand be told. Mind you, the fans don't help sometimes (see, eg., the outcry over how Sienna Kahn was "wasted" by being introduced and killed off in a single episode).

I'm pretty sure that Sun's going to be staying in Mistral, they even have a perfect reason for him to stay narratively sice all of the local Huntsmen are dead. Students might not be fully trained but they're better than no one and that's also all the more reason for everyone that can to stay rather than running off.

Not sure if the rest of JNPR will stay or not though.

Nitpick but Salem only had the independent Huntsmen assassinated since those were the ones Qrow was trying to recruit and Blake mentioned Huntsmen being on the way to stop the White Fang. It makes sense really, the independents are the ones that make the most sense to hire for the shadow war since Oz doesn't want the Kingdoms to take notice, and since they're lone wolves there's no coordination so no one really noticed the connection when they all dropped dead until Qrow actively went out looking for as many of them as possible.

Provided she doesn't make a return I will continue to maintain Sienna was wasted personally. But I do agree cast bloat is an issue, I like Ren and Nora but barring their, mostly Ren's, little arc in V4 they don't really get the weight I feel they need to justify their constant presence especially in regards to mourning Pyrrha while I still feel Jaune gets too much focus, emphasis and other stuff and that Sun was unnecessary personally. Yeah having someone to exposition at is useful but I don't think it was strictly necessary past a certain point.
Uh, don't think so? Kind of looked like a Gundam protagonist if I remember correctly. :p
Hmm, that science guy maybe? Oh well XD

Given Ilia's history with Atlas I definitely think out of all the secondary/supporting characters in Mistral she deserves the most to go to Atlas. Also it'd be cool to see Winter again and maybe Mama Schnee as well, :D
He definitively had some kind of spacefuture pistol. Looked like something people in 1910-1960 thought the future would look like.
Oh wait was he a brunette in like a body suit? Also yeah that show had some real retro stuff going on XD

Speaking of villians, whatever happened to Neo. I just remember that dumbass umbrella opening scene on top of the ship. Then my friends told me she never showed up again after that. Is that still the case?

She hasn't shown up again yet, some still have hope but its unclear. I think the creators may have implied something once but that may have just been a rumor.

It's that part of the story production where the staff realize "oh shit, we made too many characters" and proceed to cull all the C-list characters.

Dangit, and I really liked her design and her sassiness. She has more personality and expression than Cinder did in three seasons.

#JusticeForNeo

If they were ever going to actually show some anti-Faunus discrimination on the show, Atlas would be the place to do it.
While I will freely admit its not been demonstrated or handled nearly as well as it could have been, they have shown aspects of it at times.

Edit: But yeah, Atlas feels like the most ideal place for it both to be present and intense.

Especially since Blake is essentially done with the part of her character arc where she has to face the bad apples on her own side. She's removed some of the symptoms, now it's time to face the root cause.

That is one thing I feel could be, if done well, be an excellent path for her to face. IE, what does Blake do when she encounters the same issues her father and the old White Fang did, bigots who can't be reasoned with, overwhelming governments and corporate bodies that exploit and marginalize their people and who aren't intimidated by anything except force (IE Why Sienna was successful) and how does she deal with that?

Might be where Mantle and people like Flynt Coal comes in. Make common cause with all the humans who have also been screwed over by the system and start working on getting enough support to pressure politicians and law-makers to change things.

[Discussion] Chibi Season 3, Episode 6: Teenage Faunus Nina Catgirl
RWBY Chibi is up:
Lets see what is up

The animation in ninja Blake's scene was really cool, detailed and smooth, especially for chibi, that sword kick was great, go Blake!

(Ninja vanishes to next scene)

Smug Weiss is hilarious.

Blake, Blake what are you doing, you're scaring Ruby.

Velvet is amazing, her demeanor, her lines, all if it, she hears all!

Roman just shot me in the face.

Oh gosh Cardin is back, big fan of Roman. Neo is not a fan of Roman's new protege.

Huhahahahahaha, that was dang sinister, great work Roman and Neo's dismissal was hilarious XD

What the fuck was with Blake's expression and tone I am freaking out!

Ruby either screamed ceiling cats or cups.

Rude Ruby, Blake is obviously a panther Faunus.

Nora does not give a craaap about all this drama.

Ninja taxi XD That was good!

I really want Blake or Ren to actually use some of the stuff from this episode in the main show. Sure its ridicilous and over the top humor but a lot of the ninja stuff was still cool as hell. :coolbeans:
