RWBY Thread III: Time To Say Goodbye

Stop: So gotta few things that need to be said real quick.
so gotta few things that need to be said real quick.
We get a lot of reports from this thread. A lot of it is just a series of people yelling at each other over arguments that have been rehashed hundreds of times since the end of the recent Volume. And I get that the last Volume - and RWBY in general, really - has some controversial moments that people will want to discuss, argue about, debate, etc.

That's fine. We're not going to stop people from doing that, because that's literally what the point of the thread is. However, there's just a point where it gets to be a bit too much, and arguments about whether or not Ironwood was morally justified in his actions in the recent Volume, or if RWBY and her team were in the right for withholding information from Ironwood out of distrust, or whatever flavor of argument of the day descend into insulting other posters, expressing a demeaning attitude towards other's opinions, and just being overall unpleasant. That tends to happen a lot in this thread. We want it to stop happening in this thread.

So! As of now the thread is in a higher state of moderation. What that means is that any future infractions will result in a weeklong boot from the thread, and repeated offenders will likely be permanently removed. So please, everyone endeavor to actually respect the other's arguments, and even if you strongly disagree with them please stay civil and mindful when it comes to responding to others.

In addition, users should refrain from talking about off-site users in the thread. Bear in mind that this does not mean that you cannot continue to post tumblr posts, for example, that add onto the discussion in the thread, with the caveat that it's related to RWBY of course. But any objections to offsite users in the thread should be handled via PM, or they'll be treated as thread violations and infracted as such.

Picked up the Ruby Manga today and yeah it's alright the timeline is a bit all over since it expands on the trailers and adds some new adventures that ends with Torchwick planing the breach, they also show off that apparently Penny has a flight attachment which would have been cool to see in series.

20 bucks either Penny is rebuilt or Penny 2.0 will be a character in a later season. Just you watch.

I mean, why else introduce the Blue Fairy :V

Considering the incremental improvements and costume changes that are being made every season, I do hope they take the opportunity to do a significant redesign if Penny 2.0 beomes a thing. I know it's a matter of personal taste, but her costume design was just short of being the most boring for a roccuring character in RWBY (edged out by Scarlett*) and Penny had a way bigger part to play. :(

* And in Scarlett's defense they probably wanted to keep her character model as unencumbered as possible so she could duplicate any other characters without costume bits getting in the way. Which works in universe too, since her body glove provides the absolute maximum range of movement to duplicate techniques and weapons.

Do you mean Velvet?

Personally I really liked her outfit. Not a fan of the original winning fan art it was based on but I thought it worked really well with the redesigned warmer and browner version that they used in the show.

Well if she shows up next volume then "When in Mistral do as the Mistrali":

More seriously though this could maybe work if there's another timeskip before we see her:

Though by far my favorite redesign has to be this or something like it:

Looks very dynamic and striking, plus more badass. But you can still see traces of the original design. That said while looking for that I found this which I also liked:

In fact now I might actually like this more. So conflicted.

Edit:
Made up my mind, I like the last outfit the most. It is just so incredibly adorable in a very Penny way and it clearly takes inspiration from Ruby's Volume 1-3 outfit which is both really cute on its own but becomes especially heartwarming when you consider that Ruby baser her new outfit on Penny's old outfit.

You know, I also think that Penny is going to be rebuild, but at difference that a lot of people I think that the problem is that she would have lost her Aura, her soul, the only thing that made her special, that gave her her destiny, now she is just a machine. Her arc will probably center around Ruby trying to tell her that having an Aura isn't the only thing that made her special, that she still is Penny and that is reason enough to exist.

There would probably be a Penny 2.0 (Nickel?), a new model made with everything that they learned from Penny, that will serve as a foil to Penny. Note, I don't want Nickel to be an antagonist, at least to Penny, but I can see her being protective of her elder sister as she cannot defend herself anymore, and might or might not be jealous of Ruby for being so close to her older sister, something the will amuse Yang to no end as I can see RT reusing some of Ruby's Volume one lines from when she didn't want to leave Yang, leading to a little sister to little sister talk.

Not to say that she cannot recover her Aura, I think that Jaune might help her with that or in the end it might be one of Oscar's first decisions as the Wizard, he can use his magic to help but as Ozpin said even a using a small amount of magic isn't a trivial decision.

I would hope it would be something the oppossite. Due to the extensive rework and basically reconstructing her from what wasn't destroyed, rebooted Penny would not be a match for Ruby's recollections of her. Which would no doubt be upsetting but potentially interesting.

Huh... Ya know it just occurred to me but tons of people seemed angry Adam's attack was strong enough to break through Yang's Aura back in V3 or assumed he has an Aura cutting blade or that it was just bad writing but, Pyrrha's attack on Penny also was strong enough to tear through Penny's Aura and I'm not sure anyone noted that.

it's possible that due to Penny's robotic nature and the super strong magnetic field Pyrrha was using may have shorted a few things out prior to being cut by the blades.

Cinder had access to Penny's blueprints iirc. Maybe there was sabotage somewhere?

Or just the sheer force with which Pyrrha accelerated them. Because of Emerald's illusions, she thought she was pushing on a lot more blades than she actually was, so she probably put way too much oomph into that attack and overwhelmed Penny's Aura.

Maybe aura doesn't protect you from yourself? So the wires could simply cut through Penny because the wires are a part of penny?

Also, maybe penny simply doesn't have aura. Do we have any indication that she does?

The only times I remember her being hurt are when she stopped the truck and when pyhrra pyhrra'd her, and in both times she suffered visible damage, which isn't what usually happens when one is protected by aura.

I should watch the penny vs pyhrra fight again and see if Pyhrra scored any hits, because if she didn't then Penny might have never had an aura to begin with.

I can't wait for Awesome Anime Done Quick tomorrow. Wonder what sort of speed run tricks they'll do.

It's a wonder how she got the second most shonan Semblance in the entire series.
Actually her semblance is in a way contradictory to how she acts. Remember that it's teleportation that alows her to go right to people that she is bonded to.

That presumably means she has some form of lasting emotional connection to them. And if one's semblance reflects one's personality (or the other way around) it would mean that being near/being able to help those she cares about was something that was at least (in the past) very important to her.

Actually on the emotional idea of the bond, over on SB I made a bit of a joke during a conversation back when Raven's semblance was first explained:
I imagine it's the former. Which is probably why Raven was less then pleased with Yang bringing it up. Because it reminded everyone that she still had positive feelings regarding her husband, brother and daughter.

Also because of you bringing up the the 'Tsudere Raven' bit and her reaction to finding out Tai told Yang about her power:

"Stupid Tai! I'm only considering helping Yang because you spilled the beans about my Semblance, n-not because I still like you. S-so don't get the wrong idea, got it?! Baka!"
:D

I know it's never going to happen but the image of Tai being able to make Raven go 'dere-dere' was just so amusing.

That's why I'm so confused at why Rooster Teeth gave her that semblance.

Actually if we look at the context of her devotion to her Tribe and the people she cares about it makes sense, with her brother that one is obvious, with Tai she loves/loved him enough that perhaps she thought he loved her so much she could bring him into the Tribe(Just a thought).....well maybe, as for Yang well again she is her daughter perhaps she wanted her to one day join the tribe as well but she had to prove herself first. Look at there first true meeting, Raven is practically beaming with pride that Yang was able to fight her way to her without anyone else to help her.

That's why I'm so confused at why Rooster Teeth gave her that semblance.
Edit: Plus with such a Semblence she would be able to reach the members of her tribe that she truly cares about and help them regardless of where they are.
Anyway calling it now but Raven in the next episode assuming she isn't killed via back stab from Cinder while she is dealing with Yang will make a daring escape with the relic in tow or toss the relic into one of her portals that leads to Tai since I am not sure who else she would have a bond with that would trigger her semblence since the only other person I can think of would be Vernal and she is dead plus it would be an awesome screw you to Cinder since I doubt Cinder is aware of her portal mechanics
