RWBY Thread III: Time To Say Goodbye

Stop: So gotta few things that need to be said real quick.
so gotta few things that need to be said real quick.
We get a lot of reports from this thread. A lot of it is just a series of people yelling at each other over arguments that have been rehashed hundreds of times since the end of the recent Volume. And I get that the last Volume - and RWBY in general, really - has some controversial moments that people will want to discuss, argue about, debate, etc.

That's fine. We're not going to stop people from doing that, because that's literally what the point of the thread is. However, there's just a point where it gets to be a bit too much, and arguments about whether or not Ironwood was morally justified in his actions in the recent Volume, or if RWBY and her team were in the right for withholding information from Ironwood out of distrust, or whatever flavor of argument of the day descend into insulting other posters, expressing a demeaning attitude towards other's opinions, and just being overall unpleasant. That tends to happen a lot in this thread. We want it to stop happening in this thread.

So! As of now the thread is in a higher state of moderation. What that means is that any future infractions will result in a weeklong boot from the thread, and repeated offenders will likely be permanently removed. So please, everyone endeavor to actually respect the other's arguments, and even if you strongly disagree with them please stay civil and mindful when it comes to responding to others.

In addition, users should refrain from talking about off-site users in the thread. Bear in mind that this does not mean that you cannot continue to post tumblr posts, for example, that add onto the discussion in the thread, with the caveat that it's related to RWBY of course. But any objections to offsite users in the thread should be handled via PM, or they'll be treated as thread violations and infracted as such.

What? He sounded like a great guy to me.

The asshole is the next guy.
Might be another Nick we're missing? And we going with the Christian saint or more the later guys who inspired the winter slash pagam christian traditions?

Admittedly a lineage that includes Snow Queen Snow White (Without black hair or red lips, that's not a disney-fication Snow's descripting as snow skin, ebony hair, and red lips are rather critical in her iconic versions) and.. whatever Jacques is (Jack Frost?)

I am surprised no 7 Dwarves analogue so far back home. But do have "wicked" Stepmother (drunk/indiposed mother)

Multiple...he acted different like ONE time.
Okay there is shonen-fying and then there is copping out. Not seven brothers in a caretaker/subservient or whatever position feels OFF.
Okay better watch him again maybe it will work for me.

He changed into 3 different personalities with eye colour switching.
It's hardly some huge issue.

*rewatched* a little more apparent. Also changed with a *sneeze* okay okay got to give more credit where due. Still kinda odd ability for manservant. Is this an Aflred Pennysworth deal, some time in the army, then fell for the stage before coming back for the family business of butling?

Maybe he used to be a Huntsman alongside Nicholas, his apprentice perhaps. Maybe he will attempt to assassinate Jacques at some point for ruining his mentors lifework.

Hey so do we know how to spell the name of the town Blake's in and, though I think this is the case, whether the Faunus still call it Menagerie?

Blake calls it Menagerie, and no one calls the continent of Anima Mantle. Continents and capitals have different names.

Also, there is probably more than one settlement on Menagerie.

Wait but didn't the person discussing with Jacques about the state of there society from the recent episode directly refer to Mantle as if it was a seperate entity?

*watches* SDC WoR

Hmmph, on a certain level, abstraction matters and avoids detailing a world that's made so you don't lock yourself into, or out, of anything. On another. I mean, mining company, those are the original evil business overlords. A littles specifity wouldn't hurt as I doubt we're going to directly cover the (boring) parts of developing a multinational corporation.

Nick looked more naked than any figure I can remember. Mind his silohuette was such.. ahem.

Yeah "Good" and "old" get used so Santa along with the whole, from a north company traveling the world to personally export gifts that enfranchise people.

Jacques was the *immediate* successor? Dust has negative longterm side effects?

I get Jacques is an ass who you just KNOW is self-focused but frankly I've had a hard time siding for Weiss for being pissed off she has to perform duties to keep the family name afloat in a time of crisis while living in grotesque comfort and luxury. Add in her suspicion of her brother and.. I don't know I GET these are not nice people. No one got ultrarich by playing fairly by the rules and then not use them on others. Its the lack of specificity the whole he's a businessman who likes profit and orders his kids and dislikes his business being interfered with and etc So thus he's evil, don't question it.

I mean at least we *saw* Torchwick stealing, Mercury and Emerald doing a shakedown and killing, and etc. We're supposed to hate Weiss's father because... he doesn't live the lifestyle of two fisted MAN O ACTION? And cuts his daughter off when she refuses to call and pulls her back home when her residence and so on are attacked.

These are flawed and wrong actions. A sign he doesn't respect her as an adult and has a sort of patronizing attitude and so on about himself. But the way he's kept shown as "THE BAD GUY" Feelstoo...assumed and convenient with no attendent proof. Even inthe party it feels he's too strawmannish, butadmittedly that might be all that's too him. He's abusive and controlling and that might be enough with the scale of power and influence he has. Even if he's being stopped by James, though uninformed on other things.

We're supposed to hate him, as far as I understand it, because he's an emotionally abusive, psychological manipulator who regards his children as mere tools and will use whatever means it takes to control them and is also a sleazy business-criminal who unfairly exploits his workers for personal profit and is generally a terrible person.

I thought the side effects were more from how Dust is mined. I don't know about mining anything in real life but isn't there underground gases and breathing in rock dust to worry about? I don't think they'd use explosives to get the Dust from the ground due to how sensitive it is. Wait, how DO they mine dust without setting it off? From the top of my head, any method of mining and refining materials from the earth would make it explode, if it's possible to do so just by shooting a normal bullet and sneezing at it.

Have we seen RAW dust exploding or just REFINED dust exploding? That might be the difference when it comes to mining it since as far as I know the only dust we have seen exploding is the refined dust used in bullets etc.

True, it took Roman shooting a Burn Dust crystal to make it explode, but the powdered Dust only needed a sneeze.

True, though do we know if Aura is constantly running through everything the Hunters do?
Well either Aura is reactive such as what we saw with Nora being hit by the Lightning round or when Tyrian hit Ruby or, or it is running at full speed for when in a combat scenario and it is "off" during non combat scenarios. There is also the scenario where it is just up to the user weather it is on or not as shown when Ruby uses her semblence to escape with Penny or when Yang needs to absorb damage through her Aura in order to power up her semblence.

Doesn't have to be Dust explosions causing the health problems. I mean to take a real world example, look up some of the illnesses and issues that coal miners can get, it's a fairly extensive list.
And considering that Jacques is apparently cutting corners in regards to workplace safety, pay for the workers and potentially any medical care they may get, conditions in the mines are probably closer to the Industrial revolution than a modern 1st world mine would be. In the case of old Nick, I suspect that part of the reason his health eventually gave out (considering he probably had proper protective gear when mining) was that he was always running at 110% with never any time to recuperate.

The interesting thing is that I'm pretty sure that Weiss has met and interacted with her grandfather in the past (though no idea if he's still alive). While he'd handed over the keys to Jackie boy and probably couldn't change the direction in which the CEO was taking the company, he apparently managed to instill at least some of his values into his granddaughter.

I'd have figured Nora was in 'fight mode' by that point, but yeah we don't exactly know whether Aura is always on, responds instantly when need presents itself or is more conscious or some mix.

Given Yang's upper feats of strength, I'm fairly sure that she's not always running at that level, or else she'd need to work pretty hard to control her force when angry or distracted.

That shove she gave Blake in "Burning the Candle" was pretty gentle, all things considered, and we know that Yang has the strength to hurl mega murder-bears across a room with one punch. Someone of Blake's weight wouldn't have taken nearly as much energy to launch.

There's also the fact that what separates hunters from normal people is training. Junior's thugs are drop-outs (presumably), but Yang trained hard enough to graduate combat school and enroll at a hunting academy.

That's not because she's just naturally stronger than they are. Salem say that Remnant's warriors are those who train to harness and amplify their Aura.

Yang learned how to use her Aura to be strong, just as she discovered and refined her Semblance to become even stronger than that.

So I just had a crazy thought about why Tyrian might be interested in Jaune. So remember how Tyrian was originally supposed to he hunting the Spring Maiden and Jaune has 7 sisters? Want to bet one of them is the Maiden in question and Tyrian was interested in Jaune due to there resemblence?
