RWBY Thread III: Time To Say Goodbye

Stop: So gotta few things that need to be said real quick.
so gotta few things that need to be said real quick.
We get a lot of reports from this thread. A lot of it is just a series of people yelling at each other over arguments that have been rehashed hundreds of times since the end of the recent Volume. And I get that the last Volume - and RWBY in general, really - has some controversial moments that people will want to discuss, argue about, debate, etc.

That's fine. We're not going to stop people from doing that, because that's literally what the point of the thread is. However, there's just a point where it gets to be a bit too much, and arguments about whether or not Ironwood was morally justified in his actions in the recent Volume, or if RWBY and her team were in the right for withholding information from Ironwood out of distrust, or whatever flavor of argument of the day descend into insulting other posters, expressing a demeaning attitude towards other's opinions, and just being overall unpleasant. That tends to happen a lot in this thread. We want it to stop happening in this thread.

So! As of now the thread is in a higher state of moderation. What that means is that any future infractions will result in a weeklong boot from the thread, and repeated offenders will likely be permanently removed. So please, everyone endeavor to actually respect the other's arguments, and even if you strongly disagree with them please stay civil and mindful when it comes to responding to others.

In addition, users should refrain from talking about off-site users in the thread. Bear in mind that this does not mean that you cannot continue to post tumblr posts, for example, that add onto the discussion in the thread, with the caveat that it's related to RWBY of course. But any objections to offsite users in the thread should be handled via PM, or they'll be treated as thread violations and infracted as such.

Isn't he like twice her age?
I honestly dont know.
He is old enough to have a niece Yang's age which is 17. But we dont know how old he was when she was born.
Winter is older then 17 which is weiss age but how much older is the question I would guess 4-5 at the least 8 at the most.

Considering Ruby and Yang as well as the little backstory we have plus the fact Raven and Qrow look older I am going to guess at qrow being 35 while Winter is 21-23.

So older to be sure but not twice her age and some women like older men.

The real issue is how old Raven is in relation to Qrow her brother who we guess is a younger brother, maybe like ruby and got in early, and how old was she when she had Yang.

I can't deny it looks fun :)

The look on Weiss's face is what escalates that ship from cute to hilarious.
This artist has some great expressions and Yeah Weiss's reaction in general just sells this to me.

Weiss: Dammit Winter, don't woe my team mates!
Winter: I can't turn of my swagger dear sister.

I thought they were twins?

As far as I can tell and this is after looking at the wiki no its not mentioned if they are twins or not

They dont look like twins their eyes are different both in shape and color and their faces are different .

Its hard to say I mean its an anime so how close to keeping the family looks is subjective but they dont look like twins to me and I cant find any mention they are.

They could just be fraternal twins.

But yeah, we've no real information either way.

Hmm, yeah they do look fairly different, though as noted above they could be fraternal, but as you said we really don't know. Though even then I think that's still place him at like 30s to early 40s.

On Qrow's age, hmm, Yang's seventeen or so and presumably Raven didn't have her while at Beacon so he was probably twenty five or so when Yang was born assuming it happened right after Beacon, so forty two maybe?

So like this?

Well, that exact sequence would require Yang getting a hand with things. I regret nothing![/Horrible Agony]

30s is the bare min of what Qrow could be at.
Assuming that Raven has Yang as early as possible aka 17-18, I am ignoring Moral issues and just going by numbers, since Yang is 17 that would mean the YOUNGEST qrow could reasonably be is 34-35.

As opposed to them being identical twins? Is Qrow secretly a woman?
In VERY rare cases you can have Identical twins that are male and female.
Monozygotic twins are genetically identical unless there has been a mutation in development. and they are almost always the same gender. (On extremely rare occasions. an original XXY zygote may form monozygotic boy/girl twins by dropping the Y chromosome for one twin and the extra X chromosome for the other.)

Winter strikes me more as late 20s based on her seemingly having a high position under Ironwood. Early 20s would make her a fresh graduate from Atlas Academy and she seems too well established in her current role to be new to the military.

Furthermore it must have taken her a while to afford that fancy ship Qrow hates, if Father Schnee cut her off when she joined the military.

Episode 11 had me yelling the name of every character who had a line in a mixture of confusion, shock, and "WTFBBQ?"
Also, forgive this post (it's really late) but... when Ozpin tells the story of the maidens for the first time, I could've sworn he said they were all waiting for Summer rather than Fall, and then it was switched...?
edit: I just looked at the wiki, it was always Fall who was last, but they switched Fall and Summer's colours so that was what confused me.

Speaking of the Maidens, they came out of nowhere. I mean, if Pyrrha has said she was reading a book about the legend of the four maidens instead of the girl with two souls (which was fauxshadowing), I would have been fine with it. Or maybe when Yang was giving her backstory to blake, she mentioned that "the Tale of the Four Maidens was Ruby's favorite story." Or some mention of it. As it is, the thought going through my head is still "where did these hacks come from, and why are they so important?" Even the World of Remnant episode failed to specify why they're so important. Amber's powers aren't outside the power of a particularly strong Semblance, and unless it turns out Glynda is secretly a Maiden she has at least as much power as half a Maiden if not more, and precision control to match, so why should we care that Cinder now has the powers of the Fall Maiden? Glynda could still take her.

Some people have speculated that the Miadens powers arent suited for combat but have other effects we arent aware of yet.
We have seen Amber use her powers but it was an overwhelming style that past the initial power attacks isnt well put together. And considering if you are going to fight someone with that level of power choosing the least experienced one makes sense.
So for all we currently know Amber was the least powerful and unsuited to a combat role out of all the maidens.

Its hard to say since all we know is amber next episode should tell us just how powerful Cinder becomes since we have seen her at partial Maiden powers and we know she knows how to fight.

One possible idea is that the maidens might be able to pacify grim such as the grim dragon flying around. But that is just an idea and may not hold any weight.

If I could have one thing happen in the season finale, I would cut it out with the excessive amounts of doom and gloom. For the past several months there's been nothing but. Barely even a joke tossed out here and there. If the finale keeps up the same tone as the past few months, then I will let loose with a resounding "meh."

Sorry I was meant to say "late" 30s.

I assumed she was assigned that ship and just decked it out with her sigil because she could myself XD

I think you mean Blake here not Pyrrha.

I'll admit the Maidens aren't as powerful as some expected, this doesn't bother me personally but it could easily be that Amber wasn't that strong or skilled yet and being able to pull on an extra power source and call on a lot of powerful attacks without Aura, tech or Dust seems pretty useful, plus they may have abilities we haven't seen yet.

That might be asking a bit much without some sort of jarring plot turn.

The tone of the past two-three months is pissing me off. Not just because it's doom and gloom, but because it's all doom and gloom. There's no room to breathe. Not even a joke here and there. Especially because it's so abrupt. Until ep. 7, while Cinder was doing shit in the background there was still pretty much all lighthearted. I was expecting the last two episodes to be something like Ozpin getting dismissed from Beacon with a shroud cast upon the school. Instead, Penny dead! Grimm and White Fang working together! Roman destroying Atlas warships with liberated warship! Giant dragon out of nowhere! Coco's Grimm-shredding minigun now useless! Corrupted robot army! I mean, holy shit Miles Luna and Kerry Shawcross, learn some fucking pacing.

It's not the dark tone itself I have issue with. It's how abrupt the change is, and how they aren't even lightening things with a joke. I mean, you know the recent "Dumb RWBY" comic?

Have something like that. Something to lighten the mood at least a little.

Lolwut?

Things have been building up to this for the entire season, with hints here and there and really taking off with the Yang vs. Mercury fight. I'm not sure how you can call this 'abrupt' when practically every other episode references the fact that there's shit going down and reaching a boiling point soon, combined with jump cuts to the Grimm moving ever onwards towards Vale.

So for all we currently know Amber was the least powerful and unsuited to a combat role out of all the maidens.

Considering the objective of Ozpin's conspiracy is to keep the maiden's out of the eye of history it could simply be that they don't have much opportunity to develop their fighting abilities or much need to for that matter.

Which may be part of why Pyrra was put forward as a candidate to receive Ambers powers. Knowing that somebody was gunning for the maidens, ensuring the next Fall Maiden could at least defend herself was probably regarded as prudent.

Ultimately the point of each maiden may be as much or more to keep their powers out of undeserving hands as to use them in a time of need.

Well different strokes for different folks I guess, I won't deny its worrying and stressful but I'm enjoying the shift from a story perspective. Though I disagree that its abrupt, it feels like everything in RWBY has been building to and hinting at this the entire time its been running from the White Fang, to Roman to Cinder's machinations in the background and even the music. I disagree that this is 'bad' pacing, it feels like the entire thing was meant to jump from 3 to 10 for the cast as well, they aren't meant to be eased into it so much as chucked into the deep end. Plus Coco's Grim shredding gun being useless is hardly shocking tome, if it was the be all end all everyone would use one, and Griffons were hyped up by the professors and the Paladins by Winter as being tough as nails opponents.

I don't think the RWBY cast are really in a position to be making jokes, at this point it feels more like it'd be force gallows humour, though Velvet got a cheery scene if nothing else, plus Neo texting Roman made me laugh.
