RWBY Thread III: Time To Say Goodbye

Stop: So gotta few things that need to be said real quick.
so gotta few things that need to be said real quick.
We get a lot of reports from this thread. A lot of it is just a series of people yelling at each other over arguments that have been rehashed hundreds of times since the end of the recent Volume. And I get that the last Volume - and RWBY in general, really - has some controversial moments that people will want to discuss, argue about, debate, etc.

That's fine. We're not going to stop people from doing that, because that's literally what the point of the thread is. However, there's just a point where it gets to be a bit too much, and arguments about whether or not Ironwood was morally justified in his actions in the recent Volume, or if RWBY and her team were in the right for withholding information from Ironwood out of distrust, or whatever flavor of argument of the day descend into insulting other posters, expressing a demeaning attitude towards other's opinions, and just being overall unpleasant. That tends to happen a lot in this thread. We want it to stop happening in this thread.

So! As of now the thread is in a higher state of moderation. What that means is that any future infractions will result in a weeklong boot from the thread, and repeated offenders will likely be permanently removed. So please, everyone endeavor to actually respect the other's arguments, and even if you strongly disagree with them please stay civil and mindful when it comes to responding to others.

In addition, users should refrain from talking about off-site users in the thread. Bear in mind that this does not mean that you cannot continue to post tumblr posts, for example, that add onto the discussion in the thread, with the caveat that it's related to RWBY of course. But any objections to offsite users in the thread should be handled via PM, or they'll be treated as thread violations and infracted as such.

And it just gets worse from here. It seems RoosterTeeth did this to get cheaper talent.

100% that's the play by RT. Get rid of their salaried workers and throw in rookie contractors fresh out of college and just eager to get a franchise on their resume. Likely them also trying to be less expensive so they dodge Zazlav's scythe.

The chances of Volume 10 happening shrink further by the day.

I really like this analysis of Qrow's head space in V6.
www.tumblr.com

UNTIL he sees the apathy burning alive, staring back at him with emotionless, deadly faces.

volume 6 is one of my absolute favorite rwby volumes, and ‘alone in the woods’ is one of my absolute favorite episodes of the show, but THIS ONE SCENE IN PARTICULAR always fucking gets me. qrow spen…

And the all too real tragedy is that it still wasn't enough. Once they get to Argus, and they're safe but there is seemingly no way forward, he gets drunk worse than Yang's ever seen him.

Violation of thread policy: Please refrain from discussing off-site users. Future incidents will result in a permanent threadban if this continues.
The Reddit thread that got posted in this link is ironic because if you actually click on it, not only do you see it got removed by the moderators, but redditors called out the person who made this meme.
And OP seems to have a history of ban evasion and harassment going off the comments there, which kinda just helps show how BS the meme is in question.

Good to see Canonseeker still has his sub-dermally shit taste though.

Was that the year they were making Gen:Lock too? That might be part of where those were going if it was.
Considering they lumped in the trailer for that and Nomad of Nowhere at the end of the final episode, I'd say pretty much.

Worst version of herself?

The-god-of-Nihon

Why do people keep wanting Ruby to be the worst version of herself? “Let’s get rid of all of Ruby’s most defining qualities and make her a miserable, terrible person! That’s a fantastic arc, and th…
Once Ruby finds out about Penny's death she should attempt suicide out of despair, because that's something we all want to see, and totally makes sense given her established character. She needs to stop being a naive idealist, and look at the cruel reality; She has to be smarter, and pragmatic, & by 'smarter, & pragmatic' I mean, willing to sacrifice innocent lives, and murder people.
Extremely strawman outlook because I don't think anyone outright said that Ruby should attempt suicide. Fall to despair, yes, but not to that point. If you look at what happened, you can see where they're coming from.
  • Ruby believes they can save the people of Mantle if they could just hold out a little longer and when Ironwood wants none of that, she immediately turns on him and the consequences are that she and the rest of her crew are now wanted criminals. This leads to the consequence of losing the Relic that they were trying to safeguard from Salem's men to Salem's men.
  • Torn between wanting to stick to both the Amity plan and the Mantle evacuation, she's even more torn when it's clear that her own group is divided on what to do, with Yang bringing up how they're only in this mess because of her decision (even darker if you remember that Ironwood's reason for distrusting RWBY in the first place was because of Yang's decision to help Blake leak information to Robyn or that she half-truthed her way around Raven which led to them needing to dump the Relic at Atlas in the first place). She had to be calmed down by Oscar and be told that they'll get the jobs done better if they go their separate ways.
  • This backfires. Yes, they got the clearance to activate Amity, but Nora got fucked up and Penny eventually gets hacked. Worst part is that with how the ambush was done, it didn't really matter if the rest of the group was with them considering how the Ace-Ops locked them out before they even realized what was about to happen.
  • This leads to the infamous bit where they're stuck at the house. Gives Ruby time to stew over how fucked everything is, not helped by the fact that she both isn't able to just go out and help the others (for one she has no idea where Yang and company are and another she can't just help the front lines lest the army become like dumb AI and prioritize arresting her over killing the army of Grimm) and, remember, the last chat with her sister was her basically throwing her under the bus for what went down.
  • By the time Whitley bails her out by calling for Klein, Penny crashes into the Manor and is followed by the Hound, whose Silver Eyed reveal traumatizes Ruby that causes her to remain at the manor despite being previously determined to go and doing something about the situation at hand.
  • Hey, the Mantle Situation got handled, sure hope no one is too stupid enough to ruin i- And here comes Ironwood to fuck that up. What makes it worse though is that he managed to put Penny's life in jeopardy too either directly or indirectly depending on who you think it was that put in the self destruct command.
  • And so, left with no other option and little time to make a decision, Ruby uses the Staff of Creation to save Penny's life. Knowing this would cause Atlas to fall and kill thousands, however, she makes a hasty, last-minute plan to evacuate people to the safest Kingdom she knows without factoring in several things all while forgetting that a certain blood thirsty Maiden is out there with the Relic of Knowledge being stolen moments prior to the Cane Nuke (I do not think the group would neglect to mention this happening, but then again, given Yang and Raven, i wouldn't be surprised if they left out details like the Relic being stolen or Cinder being ordered to bust out Watts and hunt down Penny).
  • This results in her sister being knocked off, her weapon being knocked off, and then her being knocked off. And she doesn't even know if Penny survived. She doesn't know if her plan actually worked. For all she knows, it's a complete failure.
Which brings us to the moment the Strawman is talking about.

The whole reason Ruby did this evacuation in the first place is so that Penny would be saved without needing to expend the lives of Mantle and Atlas. To do the optimal "everyone lives" scenario that Ironwood sternly believed doesn't exist. That was the entire reason she went against his plan in the first place, because she genuinely believed she could risk the fall and fight for every life.

And in the end, she was wrong.

She assumes Yang and Blake are dead at worst and missing at best. Doesn't know if Weiss and Jaune are going to be okay. Doesn't know how the evacuation is going. Knows that those civilians are dead and countless more (soldiers included) were killed during the Battle of Atlas. She doesn't even know if Qrow or Winter are alive.

And then she finds that Penny, the person she risked it all for, ended up dying in the evacuation. The one she wanted to save most of all, to the point where she outright toppled an entire Kingdom for her sake, died.

I don't think that's something she's just gonna perk up and smile at. This is a culmination of all her doubts into one sharp blow and it is going to hurt.
