RWBY Thread III: Time To Say Goodbye

Stop: So gotta few things that need to be said real quick.
so gotta few things that need to be said real quick.
We get a lot of reports from this thread. A lot of it is just a series of people yelling at each other over arguments that have been rehashed hundreds of times since the end of the recent Volume. And I get that the last Volume - and RWBY in general, really - has some controversial moments that people will want to discuss, argue about, debate, etc.

That's fine. We're not going to stop people from doing that, because that's literally what the point of the thread is. However, there's just a point where it gets to be a bit too much, and arguments about whether or not Ironwood was morally justified in his actions in the recent Volume, or if RWBY and her team were in the right for withholding information from Ironwood out of distrust, or whatever flavor of argument of the day descend into insulting other posters, expressing a demeaning attitude towards other's opinions, and just being overall unpleasant. That tends to happen a lot in this thread. We want it to stop happening in this thread.

So! As of now the thread is in a higher state of moderation. What that means is that any future infractions will result in a weeklong boot from the thread, and repeated offenders will likely be permanently removed. So please, everyone endeavor to actually respect the other's arguments, and even if you strongly disagree with them please stay civil and mindful when it comes to responding to others.

In addition, users should refrain from talking about off-site users in the thread. Bear in mind that this does not mean that you cannot continue to post tumblr posts, for example, that add onto the discussion in the thread, with the caveat that it's related to RWBY of course. But any objections to offsite users in the thread should be handled via PM, or they'll be treated as thread violations and infracted as such.

My current thoughts are that the match is about to start, and Penny starts looking for Ruby to see if she is watching.

Friend Ruby not detected.
Broadening scan.
Friend Ruby located.
Friend Ruby is displaying signs of combat.
You are combat ready!

"Apologies Phyrra but Ruby is in danger! I forfeit."

Penny zooms away to save Friend Ruby.
That would be a WONDERFUL way for Cinder's plan to stumble.

Bunch of up-tight dicks.

Though if team FNKY is any indication Atlas isn't quite the regimented neo fascist society that people usually assume the premier military establishment would be.

I guess it comes down to comparison between the kingdoms rather than an objective standard. Remnant did fight a world war for the sake of individuality after all.

Best name for the best ship.

Ostensibly. How far the 'individuality' thing extends is pretty unclear beyond the name of colors (And it was obviously one of those cases where some people ended up freer than others)

When it comes to Penny Cinder doesn't necessarily have to, if she can, assume direct control. Just messing with how much power Penny puts into an attack or her energy readings, what she sees could be enough to cause problems, potentialy horrible problems.

I'm not quite sure if this is right, but I don't think Cinder will hack Penny to go full beast mode.
No, she'll take control of certain systems, causing oddities that make Penny's attacks more lethal than they should be.
And the Pyrrha gets arrested/shot in the face for destroying extremely valuable military property.

While cinder can most likely make Penny FAR more dangerous then she wants to be, Pyrrha defending herself wont get her arrested or shot you know why?

Penny is in a combat tournament. And after Yang you bet everyone is going to be watching closely for foul play.

No the most likely outcome is 1 of 2 things. Either make Penny go berserk and let it be known she is an Atlas Military Robot which will make the people nervous and untrusting of ALL atlas mechs. Or Penny is a serious Key to a move one that needs her to take damage for since its no randomly selected system that placed the girl that can control metal against the metal girl.

I think Penny made to go berserk while pleading to be stopped as she cant stop herself is the most likely and heart wrenching outcome because its RIGHT up cinder's game plan style to do that.

I believe you misunderstand me.
The reason she would be arrested and/or shot?
Penny is the first synthetic human capable of producing an aura.
The value of such a thing is unbelievable.
Why?
Well, think about it like this.
What's the advantage a standard NCR trooper has over an NCR Ranger?
Sheer weight of numbers.
Rangers take longer to train, equip, and prepare. They come in singles or pairs typically with only a few exceptions. A standard Trooper only takes a few weeks to train, and has rather cheep and basic equipment. Take away that numbers advantage? Troopers are then obsolete.
See what I'm getting at? No?
If you take a Hunter/Huntress and but them against a regular soldier, than the winner is obvious. However, hunters aren't as common as soldiers, and take longer to train and prepare. But, if you could mass produce hunters and huntresses with that training programmed into them....
You wouldn't need soldiers.
Penny is basically Atlas' first step toward making mass produced super soldiers. Penny is the first, and all designs will likely be based off her.
She's too valuable for Atlas to lose. They won't allow it to go unpunished (or lightly) if she's destroyed.

No you misunderstand the situation
one BIG issue with that.
NO
ONE
KNOWS
ABOUT
HER

Literally only Atlas and Ruby know about her and from what we have seen not even her "partner" knows about her robotic nature.

Yes let us cart away and kill the woman who just stopped a robot rampage. Why? Well she WAS the only robot with an Aura....Ok did Pyrrha know about that while said robot was going out of control? Well no because it was top secret. Then why are you holding her accountable for destroying an out of control robot that she had no way to know was valuable? Well Aura...NO.

Your argument breaks down once you realize Penny is a secret and not a well known fact only a VERY small number of people know what she is and that does not include Pyrrha or the public and like Ironwood pointed out the truth wont matter.

So no Atlas LITERALLY can NOT shoot or arrest Pyrrha for destroying Penny on National TV if Penny go Berserk.

Now not to say I think Penny will be destroyed by Pyrrha but after Yang and the situation if Pyrrha has to go that far and its clear she HAD to Atlas wont be able to touch her.

Penny is valuable. Losing her would hurt.

Shooting Pyrrha would help... how?

Ironwood doesn't seem like the type to lash out.
"If you were one of my men, I'd have you shot!"
And that was for destroying two basic bots, and getting in a brawl with one of his officers.
So, yeah, Ironwood does seem like one to do that.
And, in the military, trust me. "It's okay, you didn't know." Is not something you will ever likely hear.
If they don't outright execute her for destroying a valued piece of equipment that likely cost them billions to produce, you can bet your ass she'll be put under MA.

Yeah NO
Pyrrha isnt military so yeah

As for the fight with Qrow he PUBLICLY got into a huge fight with Winter and put people in danger for what seems like to Ironwood a small issue that is completely reasonable. So to Ironwood that fight was a HUGE problem.

Pyrrha isnt Military and isnt even from Atlas's home she is Beacon and Vale.
They put a COMBAT robot into a Tournament her getting destroyed is a serious possibility one they will try HARD to prevent but one none the less.
So they cant arrest or shot pyrrha on such crappy reasons.

Pyrrha is a civilian as far as Atlas is concerned a Civilian put in danger by THEIR machine...yeah them even TRYING is going to not go over well.

A civilian from a foreign nation.
That just destroyed a rather expensive piece of equipment.
In a tournament meant for fair sport and competition, not fights to the death.
That is EASILY grounds for arrest.

  1. Pyrrha isn't one of Ironwood's men. She's a 17 year old student and international celebrity.
  2. I think you're taking that figure of speech rather too literally.
1. Fame won't do jack to help under law, and she's within the age to be tried. She would be arrested.
2. No, I'm pretty sure he was being literal.
Also, sense Penny has an Aura, and therefore a soul, would she be seen as a living person/human being?
