RWBY Thread III: Time To Say Goodbye

Stop: So gotta few things that need to be said real quick.
so gotta few things that need to be said real quick.
We get a lot of reports from this thread. A lot of it is just a series of people yelling at each other over arguments that have been rehashed hundreds of times since the end of the recent Volume. And I get that the last Volume - and RWBY in general, really - has some controversial moments that people will want to discuss, argue about, debate, etc.

That's fine. We're not going to stop people from doing that, because that's literally what the point of the thread is. However, there's just a point where it gets to be a bit too much, and arguments about whether or not Ironwood was morally justified in his actions in the recent Volume, or if RWBY and her team were in the right for withholding information from Ironwood out of distrust, or whatever flavor of argument of the day descend into insulting other posters, expressing a demeaning attitude towards other's opinions, and just being overall unpleasant. That tends to happen a lot in this thread. We want it to stop happening in this thread.

So! As of now the thread is in a higher state of moderation. What that means is that any future infractions will result in a weeklong boot from the thread, and repeated offenders will likely be permanently removed. So please, everyone endeavor to actually respect the other's arguments, and even if you strongly disagree with them please stay civil and mindful when it comes to responding to others.

In addition, users should refrain from talking about off-site users in the thread. Bear in mind that this does not mean that you cannot continue to post tumblr posts, for example, that add onto the discussion in the thread, with the caveat that it's related to RWBY of course. But any objections to offsite users in the thread should be handled via PM, or they'll be treated as thread violations and infracted as such.

That didn't really surprise me much. Given RWBY's tendency to follow certain cliches I was fully expecting Cinder to be the penultimate villain. I'm putting twenty on the unspoken party being some sort of Primoridal Grimm.
Certainly a possiblity. Cinder is often equated with a Queen chess-piece. (Queen has pawns etc)

And where there is a queen, there is a king.

In that context I'm now expecting the king to be a fairly weak and static figure but who serves as some sort of lynch-pin given how the chess piece works. Also that says a lot about Roman's potential to be a threat in my books given what happens when a Pawn reaches the other side of the board :D

So Neo's base form represents Neapolitan ice cream. Her disguise can represent Chocolate Mint ice cream. A friend of mine told me that her most recent disguise can be Peppermint ice cream.

Someone please tell me that whenever Neo is disguised, that she resembles different flavors of ice cream and will continue to do so. :lol

...I'm surprised absolutely nobody has mentioned this as of yet.

Who else, besides Amber and Cinder, have we seen with ridiculously powerful, almost magical abilities?

Ding ding ding ding!
Yay what do I win!? :)

Anyway, some folks over on SB have been throwing around ideas like that, its certainly possible given Glynda made a storm and Raven had a nearly matching portal with Cinder, though in Glynda's case no one seemed to think the storm was out of place so it could just be epic Dust Magery but then there weren't many to comment on it.

Now that I think about it, aren't Cinder's Fire things on the ground and Raven's portal looking pretty much the same? Reused assets or something more?

Given the warpy portal fire thingy also shows up in the opening I'd figure there's a connection, though yeah it could be a reused asset it wouldn't be the first time after all.

Ok so my thoughts

We know have a rough timeline. Cinder and Co were getting together before Blake trailer, as proved by the 1st white fang recruitment where Adam tells Blake to get ready for the train, and that Amber's powers were stolen DURING the Blake trailer or shortly after. Cinder's hair is short in her flashback but long by the time we see her in episode 1. I recall someone saying once that Blake trailer is about a year before ep 1 but I am unsure if that was correct. So if anybody knows how long Blake trailer to Ep 1 is we can figure out the timeline.

I dont think Glynda is a maiden she is just too public and uses her powers too often for me to be convinced she a member of an organization bent on keeping the maidens a secret and safe as to be that stupid to hang such an obvious sign. We also dont see anything like the eye mask amber had show up. So I think Glynda is just that powerful we know Qrow for example who is certainly NOT a maiden has been flat out stated as the strongest fighter so people being that strong is not unheard of.

Raven is a strong possible. She uses Portals which we have never seen before but show a visual style like those of the fire portals Cinder used with the Fall power. Her Mask would also cover up the eye mask if all maidens generate it. Her disappearance with Yang and Xian Long may also match her getting the powers and based on the preview/dream/fastforward we know Raven cares about yang maybe enough to leave to protect them.

I am hoping in the next episodes Ozpin and the group realize Yang was not acting like herself when she attacked Mercury and dont think she actually did it BUT because it happened on live TV they have no choice but to continue the investigation. Ironwood showed he was smart by not accusing Ruby during the Dance fiasco and I am hoping RT has that continue where they know they are being played but are locked in because of how it went down.

I am also hoping we see Jaune's parents. The Tournament is being sent around the world and he was in it at least on the team level so it stands to reason they might have seen their darling boy on the big screen and are now on their way to ream him out.
It would be nice if they also showed that he is starting to be more in line with other hunters in terms of ability. Each season he has gotten better which isnt that long of a time if I recall right and in his team bout he wasnt taken out in fact tactically he was well ahead of his game handling that fight pretty well from a team leader position.

Cinder's glowing irises are extremely different from the flaming eye effect she and Amber displayed, so it's probably her Semblance at work.
This is something I noticed and if I hadn't read that I would've chalked it up to Animation Bump or something.

This episode was really enjoyable, and I find myself with a new-found appreciation for the villains (nearly every character appeals to me, but Cinder is my favourite now). I think this is the first time blood has been shown in RWBY?
I've also always liked Cinder's voice acting, from her appearance you'd think she'd have a deeper, huskier voice but it's cool how her voice actress can still sound "sexy and evil" while still having a high voice.

So I just realized that there is one person who can quickly clear Yang's name, Phyrra. Now assuming that her semblance allows her to roughly sense metal then odds are she'd know that Mercury's legs aren't real from her fight with him in dueling class and before someone brings up the "well Emerald merely used an illusion to hide it" it is important to keep in mind that team evil didn't know about Phyrra's semblance until after that fight.

There's been small bits of blood before. Like that time Jaune got smacked with a branch. Or the time Jaune got beat up by Cardin.

But blood on the level of what Merc got this episode? Nah, that's a first I think.

Coco also might be able to back Yang up if she shares her own Emerald-illusion mishap.
