RWBY Thread III: Time To Say Goodbye

Stop: So gotta few things that need to be said real quick.
so gotta few things that need to be said real quick.
We get a lot of reports from this thread. A lot of it is just a series of people yelling at each other over arguments that have been rehashed hundreds of times since the end of the recent Volume. And I get that the last Volume - and RWBY in general, really - has some controversial moments that people will want to discuss, argue about, debate, etc.

That's fine. We're not going to stop people from doing that, because that's literally what the point of the thread is. However, there's just a point where it gets to be a bit too much, and arguments about whether or not Ironwood was morally justified in his actions in the recent Volume, or if RWBY and her team were in the right for withholding information from Ironwood out of distrust, or whatever flavor of argument of the day descend into insulting other posters, expressing a demeaning attitude towards other's opinions, and just being overall unpleasant. That tends to happen a lot in this thread. We want it to stop happening in this thread.

So! As of now the thread is in a higher state of moderation. What that means is that any future infractions will result in a weeklong boot from the thread, and repeated offenders will likely be permanently removed. So please, everyone endeavor to actually respect the other's arguments, and even if you strongly disagree with them please stay civil and mindful when it comes to responding to others.

In addition, users should refrain from talking about off-site users in the thread. Bear in mind that this does not mean that you cannot continue to post tumblr posts, for example, that add onto the discussion in the thread, with the caveat that it's related to RWBY of course. But any objections to offsite users in the thread should be handled via PM, or they'll be treated as thread violations and infracted as such.

Yeah, but that's usually against Aura users. Mikasa is a human that doesn't have a protective forcefield while Blake has an automatic weapon.
Also her semblance.
Mikasa stabs her, only for the body to be a clone that explodes, or for the real Blake to appear above her to slice her.

Also Mikasa doesn't have night vision.

I have to give it to Mikasa.

The Paths give her an immense skill advantage, something that Blake just can't keep up with. That'a really all that has to be said. There's no way that Blake even touches her, and Mikasa is strong enough to go beast mode on Titans. I don't think Blake is walking away from getting a love tap from Mikasa, Aura be damned.

Blake is Stronger, faster, more durable, and has a weapon better suited to the task of fighting someone else.

Mikasa might have a skill advantage, but that's not enough to overcome Blake's advantage in everything else.

People get off on the idea that meanspirited cynism is "intelligent" and "being realistic" and any character who isn't a bitter broody asshole is obviously just an idiot or faking it for some reason. Many of these people are likely antisocial and bitter themselves and take comfort in the idea that they're smarter than everyone else because they treat people around them like garbage.

Well ya
Death Battle is 10 years old this year.

After Blake vs Mikasa the only of the RWBY 4 that will be left is Ruby herself, and if I recall Monty himself wanted a Ruby VS Maka (Soul Eater) fight.

Ruby vs Maka is a terrible idea. I think Mikasa is going to win, but Blake has options, at the very least.

Not only is Maka on an entirely different level of power compared to Ruby, to the point that she can punch out immortal fear gods, but if you get Maka, you get Soul, and Soul could probably beat Ruby by himself too. Together, that's just unfair.

Maybe Ruby can fight Adora? She's resilient and strong, but her damage output isn't off the chain like Maka's.

To be honest I don't actually expect to agree with whatever nonsense DB comes up with to justify their choices, I just watch to see if it has a good fight animation. So win or lose if Blake and Mikasa gets a good lucking fight I'll be happy with it.

Well similar point between Ruby and Maka are;
School girls born to the the job
Fight with a Scythe
Combat dark forces of the world

For Ruby and Adora......what is the connecting thread?

As for the fight itself, well this being Death Battle I could see Ruby having 1 potential ace against the Soul Hunting Duo...Silver Eyes VS the Black Blood. Ruby's eyes work on Grimm since they are beings of Destruction, and in a sense the Black Blood is kind of similar.

As for Maka punching the big bad....I honestly don't know if that was just an anime thing for a badass will power moment. What I do know is that Anime Maka and Manga Maka are fairly different in power/abilities when each ended. Anime Maka had Maka unconsciously making use of her Weapon Blood to sprout scythes, while I think Manga Maka/Soul
ended up with a great degree of control over the Black Blood and the pair's final form in the final battle on the moon had Maka in her black dress and Soul's scythe form got BIG and the blade looked like it was made of Piano keys (which Soul did with his leg in the ending party afterwards)
.

But either way I don't think Ruby will be getting her DB this season since we now have Blake on the docket, plus I could see Rooster Teeth wanting the RWBY story to be closer to the end before they fulfil that wish of Monty's.

What I keep circling back to for the Death Battle is, what does Mikasa have to break Blake's aura? She's an incredibly skilled fighter to be sure, but her whole thing is slicing a weakpoint and not getting hit. She doesn't have any real stopping power.

The Thunder Spears?

Mitsuru vs. Weiss should have shown that just because someone has Aura doesn't make them OP.

So a very obvious special preparation one shot (two if she completely disarms herself for a bit) weapon that Blake can just lolshadowclone. Provided she doesn't just dodge it normally because again it's an obvious attack.

I didn't ignore those because I didn't know about them, I did it because they're not effective weapons for the target.

Mikasa is also full of grit and determination, and while it might take time to break an aura we have seen Gamboul Shroud take damage before. Cut the ribbon and she won't slingshot around, and the blade has been broken from a strong enough strike.

Meanwhile Mikasa has the 3D Maneuver Gear and with that spare blades.

But in the end we'll see by around the end of the month.

in other news

I think the logic with the Mikasa thing is that she is very explicitly one of her setting's strongest human fighters, an absolute beast who does not hesitate to regularly take on dozens of creatures ten times her size head-on and come out with barely a scratch, because getting hit even once could mean death. She's also about as skilled in taking down human foes with ruthless efficiency. (Also keep in mind that AoT's setting already suspends some disbelief and physics to allow its humans to jump around like Spider-Man and do some of the stuff they do.)

Blake on the other hand is a tag-team fighter, who works at her best when doing stuff like yeeting Yang at the enemy, covering for Weiss, or creating distractions for Ruby. She's not a full support fighter like Weiss, but it's pretty telling that when she fights 1-on-1 against someone else, she is essentially tag teaming with herself. She hasn't really received all that much in terms of direct combat upgrades throughout the course of the series, either.

I'm not really gonna dwell on it any more or address any future posts on the subject, but thematically speaking (and putting aside the usual 'who is stronger in terms of raw numbers/strength' arguments, which even in this case aren't too relevant), I'd say Mikasa has a better chance of winning than Blake does.
