RWBY Thread III: Time To Say Goodbye

Stop: So gotta few things that need to be said real quick.
so gotta few things that need to be said real quick.
We get a lot of reports from this thread. A lot of it is just a series of people yelling at each other over arguments that have been rehashed hundreds of times since the end of the recent Volume. And I get that the last Volume - and RWBY in general, really - has some controversial moments that people will want to discuss, argue about, debate, etc.

That's fine. We're not going to stop people from doing that, because that's literally what the point of the thread is. However, there's just a point where it gets to be a bit too much, and arguments about whether or not Ironwood was morally justified in his actions in the recent Volume, or if RWBY and her team were in the right for withholding information from Ironwood out of distrust, or whatever flavor of argument of the day descend into insulting other posters, expressing a demeaning attitude towards other's opinions, and just being overall unpleasant. That tends to happen a lot in this thread. We want it to stop happening in this thread.

So! As of now the thread is in a higher state of moderation. What that means is that any future infractions will result in a weeklong boot from the thread, and repeated offenders will likely be permanently removed. So please, everyone endeavor to actually respect the other's arguments, and even if you strongly disagree with them please stay civil and mindful when it comes to responding to others.

In addition, users should refrain from talking about off-site users in the thread. Bear in mind that this does not mean that you cannot continue to post tumblr posts, for example, that add onto the discussion in the thread, with the caveat that it's related to RWBY of course. But any objections to offsite users in the thread should be handled via PM, or they'll be treated as thread violations and infracted as such.

Then what are those citizens doing, if not found in of the scenes with packed marketplaces? They need to read currency face values and signage.
A lot of human history doesn't have high literacy rates.

Numbers were much more common, or just straight up asking stall owners what the prices for their items are and then trying to haggle. Heck, even after the printing press encouraged mass literacy was far from all encompassing. In the 1870s only around 20% of Western Europe was literate iirc, but markets were still bustling affairs.

Spotty literacy in remnant is perfectly believable.

You know what would be hilarious as a V9 or V10 plot reveal? That the reason help from Vacuo and or Mistral and/or Vale couldn't get to Atlas in time to help against Salem was because the Dust embargo Ironwood used to neuter the other nations so they wouldn't be able to go to war also created a fuel shortage that dramatically slowed down the process of getting a large scale rescue expedition.

And possibly hostility and suspicion caused by the embargo and Atlas' isolasionism after their suspect actions at Beacon also lessened the good will towards Atlas enough that a lot of people either outright didn't want to help or suspected that the whole thing could be a trap.

I mean that is just one issue of numerous other problems plaguing the other three kingdoms. Vacou just came out of a civil war so they wouldn't be reliable help. Mistral so corrupt that I won't doubt that their relief forced is crippled by half with lot of asset being "relocated" to the numerous syndicates.

Vale lost its academy and is still recovering from the fall of Beacon.

So out of the three Vale is the most reliable one but probably won't be able offer as much without risking their own kingdom.

just mulling something in my head....

How do we think Tyrian Callows will meet his end? While I'm sure many would want it to be Qrow running him through, I honestly don't think that will happen.

That or people wanted to help, but the Council got too uppity and went "LOL NOPE, LET ATLAS FALL".

He gets a redemption arc because he finds the nothingness after death too scary or something.

Its pretty hard to say, given V8 spent so much time trying to have Qrow learn to stamp down on his vengeance tendencies I am unsure it'd be narratively satisfying for him to murder Tyrian. I've seen some suggest it might tie into a potential side shift from Mercury with a surprise attack or Mercury Emerald team up, but we don't know enough about what Mercury's gonna be doing to say.

Tyrian will be killed by a horde of Grimm. It's their nature.

I more or less agree with these takes.

I mean the only people so far who have died by their "destined rival"/"person they personally wronged" has been Adam being shanked by Bees, and even then it wasn't taken as a moment of glory. Not sure you could get the same out of Qrow (with or without Robyn/AceOps) taking out Tyrian.

So basically a more fitting end would be Emerald/Mercury working together to fend him off or death by Grimm. Aside from Cinder it has been Tyrian that has been around the Duo the most and even imploring them to follow their heart, but it was clear he was daring them to just so he could have the pleasure of hunting them down. And Death By Horde would work with his allusion.

I still hope Ruby has a moment like this in volume 9

"For it is in passing that we achieve immortality. Through this we a become paragon of virtue and glory to rise above all. Infinite in distance and unbound by death. I release your soul and by my shoulder protect thee." - Pyrrha unlocking Jaune's aura.
I am waiting for the show to revisit this chant in some way at some point in the show's future. I think you can probably tie this line to the death of Pyrrha, Penny, and the "Lesson" tied to Salem's curse.

He'll do something stupid and short-sighted that'll get himself killed. He is the scorpion that poisoned the frog, after all.
