RWBY Thread III: Time To Say Goodbye

Stop: So gotta few things that need to be said real quick.
so gotta few things that need to be said real quick.
We get a lot of reports from this thread. A lot of it is just a series of people yelling at each other over arguments that have been rehashed hundreds of times since the end of the recent Volume. And I get that the last Volume - and RWBY in general, really - has some controversial moments that people will want to discuss, argue about, debate, etc.

That's fine. We're not going to stop people from doing that, because that's literally what the point of the thread is. However, there's just a point where it gets to be a bit too much, and arguments about whether or not Ironwood was morally justified in his actions in the recent Volume, or if RWBY and her team were in the right for withholding information from Ironwood out of distrust, or whatever flavor of argument of the day descend into insulting other posters, expressing a demeaning attitude towards other's opinions, and just being overall unpleasant. That tends to happen a lot in this thread. We want it to stop happening in this thread.

So! As of now the thread is in a higher state of moderation. What that means is that any future infractions will result in a weeklong boot from the thread, and repeated offenders will likely be permanently removed. So please, everyone endeavor to actually respect the other's arguments, and even if you strongly disagree with them please stay civil and mindful when it comes to responding to others.

In addition, users should refrain from talking about off-site users in the thread. Bear in mind that this does not mean that you cannot continue to post tumblr posts, for example, that add onto the discussion in the thread, with the caveat that it's related to RWBY of course. But any objections to offsite users in the thread should be handled via PM, or they'll be treated as thread violations and infracted as such.

I wonder how they are going to do any kind of levity going into Volume 9.

Yang - *makes a joke*

Weiss - *pinching the bridge of her nose* "I am glad you're alright and we're alive and all that....but let me make one thing clear. I would end you for that joke if I hadn't just seen Blake try to decapitate a person for seemingly killing you."

Blake - *monkey clinging to Yang, ears pinned, hissing at Weiss*

Next RWBY League chapter is out
Weiss and Diana meet Victor, who turns out to be the Astronaut mentioned in the background of the Schnee Party.

Turns out in this universe trying to use Dust to get to space with a fancy ship is new, or Victor was lied to/tricked into thinking the ship could make it.

Atlas has a secret space program.

Investors tries to cover up the failure and sent assassins after Victor, he kicked their butts I think.

Thanks to Weiss he is now powered by a Glyph. This is one of the only things in this series so far that has made me raise an eyebrow.

Pyrrha, Jaune, and other brainwashed victims are closing in on the trio.

Next time, Super Bees are at the waterfront and will meet Aquaman.

Goddamn y'all talked a lot the last few days.

There was a tumblr post comparing the two with their lengths, actually.

Uh, that tumblr post hitches a lot of wagons to Sokka's arc wrapping up completely in season 1, when one of the best episodes of season 3 is the actual conclusion to his arc in finding his worth and contribution as a non-bender among a squad of bending prodigies.

Just my 2c but, on Salem, I think she's supposed to feed into the shows general themes in that no matter how much we cultivate acceptance and unity in our differences, the inborn forces that attempt to tears us apart will never really be gone so long as we remain human.

Salem can't be destroyed she can only be overcome. Bigotry and authoritarian repression cannot be purged from the human soul, they can only be overcome.

As for flaws. I think the shows biggest weakness bites again from its earliest seasons. Namely that what is actually important keeps shifting without any clear sense of payoff.

We just piled Silver Eyes, Magic Treasures, and Four Maidens all up on top of each other and then had to tie them all together somehow.

I am not confident there was a clear plan there to begin with.

I don't remember that much on when the relics were introduced, actually. I didn't think it was until Qrow got to the Tale of two Brothers in V4, but I could be forgetting a WoR episode.

Silver Eyes were almost certainly a thing from the beginning and IIRC the Maidens were something Monty came up with basically while writing the season.

Yeah, I kinda feel like the post was biased towards RWBY and, in trying to make itself look good, decides to underplay how Avatar did its arcs, even comparing Weiss to someone who doesn't even have a similar arc. Like, the creators of RWBY outright made Jaune their answer to Sokka, but they compared him to Weiss of all people?

Silver Eyes have been a part since the beginning.
Maiden's became a thing somewhere between the start of Volume 2 and the creation of Volume 3.

As for Salem, I think you hit the nail on the head. I mean after all, in universe humanity has The 4 Gifts (Knowledge, Choice, Creation, Destruction) and it is up to each individual how they go about using them. Salem or no Salem there will always be fear, hatred, and resentment, but on the flip side of that coin there will trust, love and forgiveness.

Silver Eyes have been a part since the beginning.

Which was fine. I was referring to the tendency to sort of pile elements on without resolving them. Which forced the show to kind have to awkardwly shoehorn the maidens and magic treasures and whatnot all together in this big back ground exposition.

I still think that while the Maidens as they currently are didn't exist from the start, there was meant to be something seasonal and characters filling similar roles as living keys. Mostly because in V2 Cinder & Pyrrha shared a 'Autumn' theme in the opening and cos the Relics are kind of integral to the main plot.

Also yeah the above was a great breakdown on what role Salem plays thematically and narratively, as both a metaphor and an active participant in the world. Its rather fitting in that respect, that she also doesn't seem to engineer the societal ills so much as just let other people take advantage of them for her ends.

OK, so I've been knocking a random idea in my head for a bit, so I'll see if I can articulate it.

compare the 4 RWBY girls with other leader figures

Ruby to Ozpin

Weiss to Ironwood

Blake to Lionheart (and also Sienna and Ghira)

And Yang to Theodore

Starting with "The Leaders" (Ruby/Ozpin), they are the leaders of their respective groups. Oz has spent lifetimes trying to build trust, but he himself still had trouble trusting others enough to fully open up. Ruby has found herself smack in the middle of an ancient shadow war and has been trying to keep everyone's spirit's up and keep them moving forward (even without full plan), much like Oz.

Next is "The Atlesians" (Weiss/Ironwood), they believe they should be in charge. Thankfully Weiss got over this very quickly, but Ironwood never did and we've seen where that got him.

Then we have "The Felines" (Blake/Lionheart/Sienna/Ghira), and when I think about it the 3 older faunus have each represented a bit of Blake's past. Ghira is where Blake started as a kid, she had optimism and hope. Overtime and with the growing impatience of the White Fang she followed Sienna's path in Necessary Violence until Adam took things to far and she ran, which took her into a Lionheart phase where she believed all she was good at was running away. And now she stands as her own person. No longer running away, but instead running to others. She will show love and hope, but will choose violence when her loved ones are threatened.

And lastly "The Brawlers"......and sadly this is where it's flismy for me. It's been months since I read the books so I can't recall much about Theodore other than him having a pair of Red gloves with gravity dust crystals in them and not being afraid about squaring up with people, and having to be reigned in by Rumpole at times. Anyone where with a better read on Theo and can think of how he lines up with Yang's story so far?

Reading the 5&6 Issue of the Justice league Cross
I ain't liking the way the did a couple of the background fanunus they are to animal. In canon funaus only have one animal Feature the mouse lady has a mouse noise and ears, the falcon has wings and hair, the cheetah Looks like the villainess cheetah if we just took off her ears. Like it's not too bad But it's a nitpick. Also oh boy cyborg and Diana might be About to encounter a hard counter to them.

I feel like they're ship teasing every possible combo of RWBY girl and LEaguer. And I'm here for it
It's giving me two new Weiss ships so that's fun
