RWBY Thread III: Time To Say Goodbye

Stop: So gotta few things that need to be said real quick.
so gotta few things that need to be said real quick.
We get a lot of reports from this thread. A lot of it is just a series of people yelling at each other over arguments that have been rehashed hundreds of times since the end of the recent Volume. And I get that the last Volume - and RWBY in general, really - has some controversial moments that people will want to discuss, argue about, debate, etc.

That's fine. We're not going to stop people from doing that, because that's literally what the point of the thread is. However, there's just a point where it gets to be a bit too much, and arguments about whether or not Ironwood was morally justified in his actions in the recent Volume, or if RWBY and her team were in the right for withholding information from Ironwood out of distrust, or whatever flavor of argument of the day descend into insulting other posters, expressing a demeaning attitude towards other's opinions, and just being overall unpleasant. That tends to happen a lot in this thread. We want it to stop happening in this thread.

So! As of now the thread is in a higher state of moderation. What that means is that any future infractions will result in a weeklong boot from the thread, and repeated offenders will likely be permanently removed. So please, everyone endeavor to actually respect the other's arguments, and even if you strongly disagree with them please stay civil and mindful when it comes to responding to others.

In addition, users should refrain from talking about off-site users in the thread. Bear in mind that this does not mean that you cannot continue to post tumblr posts, for example, that add onto the discussion in the thread, with the caveat that it's related to RWBY of course. But any objections to offsite users in the thread should be handled via PM, or they'll be treated as thread violations and infracted as such.

Okay, I like the artist's style. The 'Red Trailer' portion made the Omega Beowolves (Omega is the bottom of a pack, so I use it for the immature/maskless) pretty terrifying. I honestly hope there will be an English release... if only because it started in America and so it should be!

That's a nice manga. I can't wait for the translation!

As a side note about the fight between Qrow and Winter, I found it interesting how Qrow didn't take Winter seriously up until the last ten seconds of the fight, and even then it was more of a "Okay, this was fun, I'm going to curbstomp you now" kind of serious.

Winter was smug throughout most of the fight, when Qrow was deliberately fighting handicapped. At first he fought with his offhand, then he restricted himself to using the gun/sword modes of his weapon, rather than the scythe.

Whereas there was at no point that Winter wasn't giving the fight her all, as evidenced by her rather frustrated expressions throughout. But Qrow was just smiling for most of it.

Sad to see the cape missing and I am deeply worried its going to be built around Ruby and Jaune instead of Ruby and WBY.

Eh...the eyes creep me out.

Is it just me, or does Ruby look like a psychopath half of the time?
She's secretly planning to kill everyone!
You mean Ruby isn't a closet psychopath?
... You didn't realize?
I mean, it's an admirable thing, in- and out-setting, but that episode kind of hammered home (to me) that Ruby isn't quite mentally normal. Her team-mates all have doubts, but Ruby, who is 2 years younger, is quite happy to live a life of killing things. That's not a normal outlook, or one that someone with a normal, healthy mind* is likely to develop.

She's unlikely to be a danger to humans, but she's going to raise quite a few flags for fanaticism, psychopathy, and other traits that soldiers tend to develop to cope with their work. Less extreme, in some cases, because she's fighting literal monsters, but they're still going to be there.

* Normal and healthy. Ruby is very much not a normal person, and in real-life her outlook would be disturbing to most people.

Iunno I thought it was put in as a joke rather than "Ruby is a psychopath."

Absolutely no one in universe expresses any problem with killing Grimm. They're very literally soulless monsters who hate all human (and faunus) life and want to eradicate it. Wanting to kill them seems like a perfectly normal and rational response IC.

Now, deciding from the age of 15 without any doubt that you want to spend the rest of your life killing them is another thing, but it's very clear that Ruby's main reason for doing that is because she wants to be a hero who protects people like her mother was, not because she has some deep, burning desire to wipe out as many Grimm as possible or anything.

She's less a trigger-happy sociopath and more a superhero in a world where there's stuff around that doesn't "count" against the no-kill thing.

Also she's not like that against actual people. Sure, she'll beat the tar out of thugs and the White Fang, but she uses non-lethal takedowns in those cases, unlike her "THE ONLY GOOD GRIMM IS ONE THAT'S IN PIECES" attitude elsewhere... which is everyone's attitude.

Just watch meek little Velvet murdering Grimm with single leaping kicks... despite being a Dust mage type of character.

She lets a First Year team walk all over her, and can barely admit to being bullied, but she has absolutely no problems killing soulless monsters by the busload.

I'm not saying that it's irrational or abnormal. Heck, it's not even unhealthy or bad.
She's just not sane. She is very definitely fucked up in the head - and, for a Huntress, that's a good thing (what we've seen of how she is, at least).

Why? I mean, pretty much all of them decided one way or another to become Huntresses or Hunters at the same or a younger age than her which is why they attended combat schools. None of them are doubting their willingness to slaughter Grim or anything, just weather they can accomplish their grander goal, in Blake and Weiss's cases, or whether their carefree attitude is healthy in Yang's case. I mean, look at Yang's trailer.

If anyone racked up a kill count in people during their trailers, the most likely candidate would be Yang.

I didn't say Ruby was unique in not being sane, just that the episode I pointed out drove it home (for me) that she really isn't sane.

There was her bit in Round One as well. When Blake lists off all of the dangerous things they've gone up against over the last two volumes and Ruby's response was basically "Squee".

She's not a psycho, but she's definitely a bit of a nutter.
