RWBY Thread III: Time To Say Goodbye

Stop: So gotta few things that need to be said real quick.
so gotta few things that need to be said real quick.
We get a lot of reports from this thread. A lot of it is just a series of people yelling at each other over arguments that have been rehashed hundreds of times since the end of the recent Volume. And I get that the last Volume - and RWBY in general, really - has some controversial moments that people will want to discuss, argue about, debate, etc.

That's fine. We're not going to stop people from doing that, because that's literally what the point of the thread is. However, there's just a point where it gets to be a bit too much, and arguments about whether or not Ironwood was morally justified in his actions in the recent Volume, or if RWBY and her team were in the right for withholding information from Ironwood out of distrust, or whatever flavor of argument of the day descend into insulting other posters, expressing a demeaning attitude towards other's opinions, and just being overall unpleasant. That tends to happen a lot in this thread. We want it to stop happening in this thread.

So! As of now the thread is in a higher state of moderation. What that means is that any future infractions will result in a weeklong boot from the thread, and repeated offenders will likely be permanently removed. So please, everyone endeavor to actually respect the other's arguments, and even if you strongly disagree with them please stay civil and mindful when it comes to responding to others.

In addition, users should refrain from talking about off-site users in the thread. Bear in mind that this does not mean that you cannot continue to post tumblr posts, for example, that add onto the discussion in the thread, with the caveat that it's related to RWBY of course. But any objections to offsite users in the thread should be handled via PM, or they'll be treated as thread violations and infracted as such.

I think it's equally likely that they get summoned before Humanity gets united, and Ruby's speech convinces them to leave humanity alone forever
I'm inclined to think it'll be something along those lines. Humanity doesn't need its gods any longer. They've managed just fine thus far without them being around. If humanity should be destroyed, it should be by its own hands. It's something of a stretch but This Will Be The Day possibly points in that direction too.

I don't wanna hear your absolution
Hope you're ready for a revolution
Welcome to a world of new solutions
Welcome to a world of bloody evolution

That said, I do think that to some extent the narrative's characters should explicitly say whether they think the gods are bad or not. Like, the main cast upon seeing Ozma's and Salem's story... they straight up didn't engage with what they thought of the gods. They just jumped straight to 'oh no Salem can't be destroyed', presumably because that was the most relevant part. But as it is right now, and going purely by the text and not at all including what the writers have said, the narrative hasn't explicitly told the audience how they should probably feel about the gods, and that has led to some... interesting discourse.

Humanity doesn't need its gods any longer.

While I think that they will say something like that, I do hope that someone pushes back from within the show. Humanity+Faunus sans the gods have not had a good track record. We've seen racism, terrorism, slavery, Cardin, and a world war against freedom of expression.

Personally, my opinion is that it doesn't matter if gods being back would help humanity behave. You only get to kill all humanity once before you can never be trusted again.

I mean do we have any reason to think that wasn't the case with the human exclusive world when the gods were around? They don't seem to dabble much in human affairs unless pissed off by direct action against themselves and it didn't take much for Salem to turn three nations on them.

it'd be neat if the Bros show up and
GOL: sorry we screwed up
GOD: um looks like you're doing,... well not great to be honest
GOL: but we've grown since then and you are...
GOD: you look like you are really trying ?
GOL: and as we were just in the middle of something.
GOD: lets just put the whole "judgment" thing on hold as that is not us at the moment?
GOL: yeah lets go with that.

That's an interesting idea. Humanity and Faunus have been changing and adapting to the world around them for thousands of years. Is it possible that the Brothers may have changed and adapted as well in all that time they've been away?

I'd at least ask if they'd remove the Grimm from Remnant. Though that might lead to more of humanity/faunus fighting each other in the end, Grimm at least give a common enemy.

Gods are not allowed to change and evolve emotionally, that is the law! *smashes desk, resulting in my toupee sliding off head*

We have seen Light not evolve or change emotionally between his abandoning Remnant and his cursing Ozma. However long that took. Maybe an instant, maybe several million years.

We don't know how long between the two events of them leaving and Oz getting resurrected so it is largely impossible to determine whether he changed or not. He could have been put into the checkout line waiting for a likeminded person to be ready for him the instant GoL left.

Additionally, we didn't get any information regarding his personality when he was speaking with Oz besides the part where he is giving Ozma the choice regarding when to summon the gods back or not. That itself is significantly better then him standing by and not doing anything when GoD genocided humanity.

We also don't know how long ago THAT was from present day.

ya I doubt the Gods have changed. I mean, characters like them rarely do over the course of a show like this.
Light - Not often prone to impulse actions. Likes life and creating things. Is willing to hear people out so long as you remain respectful.
Dark - More likely to act on impulse. Is kinda spiteful, but not above apologizing and correcting his actions (at least in regards to dealing with his brother). Would love for people to treat him like they do his brother, but will not hesitate to use Extinction Wave on everyone.

parts of my ideal end;
- Salem is cleansed of the grimm goo
- Brothers are summoned and Ruby and Co. talk them out of killing humanity
- Brothers lift the curse Salem and Oz, allowing them to finally rest (and frees Oscar from the curse so he can live a normal life)
- The last we see of Oz and Salem is them walking away, each slowly fading through their various form, until they are back at the start, and their 4 daughters are waiting for them with smiles
- Brothers don't FULLY clean up the world, as in return for taking Oz/Salem and removing the relics from the world, they leave behind the now masterless grimm.
- Cinder (sans grimm arm) escapes alongside her crew of Mercury, Emerald, and Neo. However she is not as angry as one would think. Going forward she is still running (as Rhodes said she would be), but with the others by her side she is finally, for the first time in her life, truly free.
- Our heroes recover and do what they can see the rebuilding process begin
- Over time they each go their own ways to follow their various goals
- show ends with some epilogues that go in the reverse order of how we met them
- last one is Ruby once more at Summer's grave as she gives her an update, adding that while the fight against grimm and the wrongs in the world is far from over, she and her friends will keep moving forward.
- scene ends with Yang calling out to Ruby to come on back, camera pans and shows Yang and all the rest of their close friends waiting for her at the treeline, all older but all with smiles on their faces. And so Ruby, with her head high, fiddles with her hood before telling her mother good bye for now before dashing to her friends with a smile on her face and a spark in her eyes.[/spoilers]

I don't post here but I stalk this forum almost daily. I figured I ought to at least share one of my favorite RWBY AMVs I've seen so far. Does anyone else have any AMVs they like?
