RWBY Thread III: Time To Say Goodbye

Stop: So gotta few things that need to be said real quick.
so gotta few things that need to be said real quick.
We get a lot of reports from this thread. A lot of it is just a series of people yelling at each other over arguments that have been rehashed hundreds of times since the end of the recent Volume. And I get that the last Volume - and RWBY in general, really - has some controversial moments that people will want to discuss, argue about, debate, etc.

That's fine. We're not going to stop people from doing that, because that's literally what the point of the thread is. However, there's just a point where it gets to be a bit too much, and arguments about whether or not Ironwood was morally justified in his actions in the recent Volume, or if RWBY and her team were in the right for withholding information from Ironwood out of distrust, or whatever flavor of argument of the day descend into insulting other posters, expressing a demeaning attitude towards other's opinions, and just being overall unpleasant. That tends to happen a lot in this thread. We want it to stop happening in this thread.

So! As of now the thread is in a higher state of moderation. What that means is that any future infractions will result in a weeklong boot from the thread, and repeated offenders will likely be permanently removed. So please, everyone endeavor to actually respect the other's arguments, and even if you strongly disagree with them please stay civil and mindful when it comes to responding to others.

In addition, users should refrain from talking about off-site users in the thread. Bear in mind that this does not mean that you cannot continue to post tumblr posts, for example, that add onto the discussion in the thread, with the caveat that it's related to RWBY of course. But any objections to offsite users in the thread should be handled via PM, or they'll be treated as thread violations and infracted as such.

Again the reason Ruby and co walked was because Ruby didn't realize it was as far as it was. It's not really a matter of debate.

And again, it's not like they were initially planning to walk the whole way. Shion (and the airship they were going to use) was burnt to the ground and they just couldn't find a decent ride from then on so they kept walking.

Wait wait wait, back the truck up. Are you seriously trying to compare the completely undeveloped Oregon Trail to the connection between a port town and the capital of the continent?
Yes, much like how the major port towns in California that linked the American continents with Asia (through which many people entered the country, including the thousands of Chinese immigrants that helped build the railroad) weren't connected to the capitol of the United States or other major cities of the east coast by a railroad until decades after they'd experienced population explosion. The California gold rush was in 1849. They didn't start building the transcontinental railroad until 1863.

A railroad is a massive logistical undertaking, and just because people live somewhere doesn't mean they'll have one.

Also, on what are you basing your assumption that JNPR landed in a major port town? We never see the place they landed after crossing the ocean. Could have been some backwater for all we know.

A massive logistical undertaking that you'll have to defend the entire length of both during and after construction because of Grimm, I'll point out. If you build a railroad anywhere in Remnant, that thing had damn well better pay for itself immediately.

Plus we don't know where RNJR arrived but given Oscar is described as a farm boy of Mistral, that implies he and thus his train line live near Mistral, the capital of Anima and the main kingdom, meanwhile RNJR for all we now ended up somewhere on the Western end of the continent and regardless, likely not somewhere that could support a train line.

Yeah we've only seen three so far, we don't know much about V6's but Oscar's is near Mistral and the one raided by Blake and Adam seems to be an SDC one and heavily reinforced, along with travelling on a fairly tight slope for at least a duration of the trip, likely making it harder for many Grimm to notice or get to in comparison to a normal train.

I just discovered something awesome.

There is also a folk legend that says Corgis were a gift from the woodland fairies, and that the breed's markings were left on its coat by fairy harnesses and saddles.

The Ancient Connection Between Corgis and Fairies
The diminutive dog breed was said to have been handy for pulling the fairies' carts and carriages, as well as for riding into battle.

That's right, the war corgi has precedent. I now want it to turn out that Zwei is the descendant of the pet dog of one of Ozpin's prior incarnations that he had the bright idea of infusing a little bit of magic into.

Blake: "Ruby, what's the plan?"
Ruby: "Don't let anyone else die!"

That's not a plan, you nincompoop. That's an objective. I thought this volume was supposed to show Ruby's character somehow progressing. I get that it's just a short trailer, but come on. I've heard plenty of trailers that have someone say an inspiring speech. These doofuses have had nearly six years to get their act together, and they're still putting out shitty trailers like that? Woo-wee, the trees look pretty. Clearly that's all that matters.

Also why did the relic get small enough to hold in the palm of your hand? In v5 it was a giant fucking magical lantern, but now it's less than 50% the size?

Ok, Seven I'm actually kind of curious, why do you seem to have so many non-sequiturs in this thread? Like it seems like a lot of posts you make have little connection to the ongoing discussion, and seem to be a random thought. So I'm wondering where do you get these criticisms from? Do you come up with all of them at once and dole them out whenever you feel there's a lull in the thread or do you just rewatch the show constantly and see new issues every time? No judgment, just honest curiosity, because the last time you were in this thread you were focused on the fact that the characters were walking to Mistral in Volume 4 and now you're bringing up an issue from the trailer.

He's not coming up with them himself. He's repeating things said by other people.

The "that's not a plan" thing was already brought up in this thread:
"So what's the plan, Ruby?"
"Don't let anyone else die."
"Ruby, that's a goal, but like - how do we do that?"
"Don't let anyone else die?"
"Ruby. That's not a plan. That's the objective of a plan."

And "Why not take a train?" was posted to the RWBY Headscratchers TV Tropes page years ago, with similar results.

Hey, so I heard Lionheart was put in his position by Ozpin due to wanting to combat bigotry against Faunus which was/is an issue in Mistral, is that rumor true and if so can someone direct me to the source?

Edit: never mind, got it on SB.

The relic's magic will likely get explained in the upcoming season. Given it literally appeared at the very end of the last episode of the previous season, you can't have expected them to fit in some kind of full lore dump regarding its powers.

You're asking this out of a magical item.
I mean, not sure if you're joking or pointing out the same thing that I'm about to, but being able to resize to fit the wearer is a extremely basic and widespread power of magic items, and is a trait that magical items have in a ton of different settings. Especially powerful divine artefacts like the Relics. Even in a low-magic setting like Middle Earth the One Ring was noted to seemingly turn bigger or smaller when people weren't paying attention, which is how it contrived to get lost and found when it tired of its current wearer.

I'm a bit dubious of the idea myself, but considering that every goddamn weapon in this setting is collapsible....

That said, I don't remember seeing the relic during the trailer, but I also wasn't really looking. Does anybody have a timestamp where it appears?

This is RWBY.

The surprising thing won't be if the relic changes sizes, it will be if the relic doesn't transform into a gun.

Possibly you need all four relics together to transform them into a gun that can kill Salem.
