RWBY Thread III: Time To Say Goodbye

Stop: So gotta few things that need to be said real quick.
so gotta few things that need to be said real quick.
We get a lot of reports from this thread. A lot of it is just a series of people yelling at each other over arguments that have been rehashed hundreds of times since the end of the recent Volume. And I get that the last Volume - and RWBY in general, really - has some controversial moments that people will want to discuss, argue about, debate, etc.

That's fine. We're not going to stop people from doing that, because that's literally what the point of the thread is. However, there's just a point where it gets to be a bit too much, and arguments about whether or not Ironwood was morally justified in his actions in the recent Volume, or if RWBY and her team were in the right for withholding information from Ironwood out of distrust, or whatever flavor of argument of the day descend into insulting other posters, expressing a demeaning attitude towards other's opinions, and just being overall unpleasant. That tends to happen a lot in this thread. We want it to stop happening in this thread.

So! As of now the thread is in a higher state of moderation. What that means is that any future infractions will result in a weeklong boot from the thread, and repeated offenders will likely be permanently removed. So please, everyone endeavor to actually respect the other's arguments, and even if you strongly disagree with them please stay civil and mindful when it comes to responding to others.

In addition, users should refrain from talking about off-site users in the thread. Bear in mind that this does not mean that you cannot continue to post tumblr posts, for example, that add onto the discussion in the thread, with the caveat that it's related to RWBY of course. But any objections to offsite users in the thread should be handled via PM, or they'll be treated as thread violations and infracted as such.

Seems like Cinder's fire-throwing was probably retconned from being direct Dust usage (which seems to be this setting's equivalent of being a mage) to being Maiden powers.

I don't think the Dust thefts were ever related to that, however. It can't be little enough to fit into the lining of clothes and require entire shipping containers worth.

Pretty sure she used the fiery explosions before she got said power, specifically we saw her create explosions around Amber in their fight.

I agree on that.

I never got the confusion about the Dust though like.

Roman steals it, Cinder says move it to their secret base, a secret base which now has mechs, guns, a working train and giant bombs as well as a train cart full of the Dust crates they used to move the Dust. I feel the flow of events makes a good amount of sense without some White Fang needing to go "Careful, or you'll set off the bombs we are fueling with the Dust we stole."

Sigh. Does it not occur to you people that having Magic does not prevent people from also using Dust?

There is made a extremely clear distinction between her using Dust, and her later using Magic.

We actually see Cinder using fire powers before she ever got magic. Magic makes it possible for her to use elemental magic without Dust but it doesn't necessarily make it useless. Hell being able to use Dust manipulation seems like something that Maiden's deliberately cultivate since it looks similar enough to magic to let them conceal low-key uses of their power. Amber, Cinder and Raven have all had Dust manipulation skills in addition to their Maiden powers.

MurderofBirds goes over the Red Like Roses manga anthology. And apparently he was actually hired by Viz to promote it. Neat. So to summarize, you will likely enjoy this manga if:

  • You miss the slice of life, happy fun times of Volume 1-2(and the first half of 3) and wanted to see more of what their actual daily life was like in that period. Not much/any action, just slice of life goodness.
  • You want Ruby to be more fleshed out and to get a deeper look at what makes her tick as a character.
  • You wanted to see more of minor characters from the Beacon Arc, such as CVFY, CRDL, SSSN, Penny, Roman (plus more RWBY&JNPR)
  • You're a White Rose shipper/friendshipper. Nothing romantic but plenty of bonding (that can be interpreted as romantic)

Didn't you make a statement about not wanting to post here?
Oh he does that all the time. Both here and on Spacebattles. But he always comes back. Always.

I know, right? Sure would be nice to post something critical and not get personally attacked. Hard to remember the last time someone tried to debate me and didn't go after me instead of the argument I presented. So rare.

I didn't personally attack you, I noted that you made a statement about not wanting to post here and that you are now doing just that and asked why you decided to weigh in on a 2 day old topic, then asked you to explain what was a retcon.

Warning: Warning

warning I was asked to take a look at this situation and this kind of petty bickering is just needlessly disruptive. I'm removing all three of you from the thread for three days. When you return, be aware that your personal differences are of no interest to anyone else, that sniping at other users is not acceptable and that when a moderator steps in, that's your clue to drop something.

Sort yourselves out.

What are the 'main' RWBY media you would consider main currently?

There's the show, and RWBY Chibi on Rooster Teeth's website and Youtube channel. I know that at least.
