RWBY Thread III: Time To Say Goodbye

Stop: So gotta few things that need to be said real quick.
so gotta few things that need to be said real quick.
We get a lot of reports from this thread. A lot of it is just a series of people yelling at each other over arguments that have been rehashed hundreds of times since the end of the recent Volume. And I get that the last Volume - and RWBY in general, really - has some controversial moments that people will want to discuss, argue about, debate, etc.

That's fine. We're not going to stop people from doing that, because that's literally what the point of the thread is. However, there's just a point where it gets to be a bit too much, and arguments about whether or not Ironwood was morally justified in his actions in the recent Volume, or if RWBY and her team were in the right for withholding information from Ironwood out of distrust, or whatever flavor of argument of the day descend into insulting other posters, expressing a demeaning attitude towards other's opinions, and just being overall unpleasant. That tends to happen a lot in this thread. We want it to stop happening in this thread.

So! As of now the thread is in a higher state of moderation. What that means is that any future infractions will result in a weeklong boot from the thread, and repeated offenders will likely be permanently removed. So please, everyone endeavor to actually respect the other's arguments, and even if you strongly disagree with them please stay civil and mindful when it comes to responding to others.

In addition, users should refrain from talking about off-site users in the thread. Bear in mind that this does not mean that you cannot continue to post tumblr posts, for example, that add onto the discussion in the thread, with the caveat that it's related to RWBY of course. But any objections to offsite users in the thread should be handled via PM, or they'll be treated as thread violations and infracted as such.

Someone got doxxed over RWBY shipping.

Someone in the Tumblr RWBY fandom doxxed me, tracked down where I worked, and tried to get me fired from my job - and kicked off my health insurance. This happened after months and months of harassment and suicide baiting.

Over s h i p p i n g .

So I'm offering a no-questions-asked CASH REWARD for any incriminating evidence - chat logs gloating about what they did, plotting it, etc.

So I can better have a case against them when I bring them to court.

Or, if this coward would like to make a public (and private) apology, I will drop my crusade to drag them into the legal limelight.

Why tho? No seriously, why? I'm an ardent Flown North Shipper, but I won't deny that Snowbird is more canonical.
For the same reason J. K. Rowling got death threats for not having Harry marry Hermione and people in the Steven Universe fandom tried to make another fan commit suicide. Some people are psychotic assholes and when a group gets big enough its basically a certainty that its going to include at least a couple of them.

Sadly this is not new in fanfom or in RWBY, I know several Bee shippers who were chased off the internet by doxxers and someone Knight of Balance almost harassed into suicide cos they disliked Pyrrha's death.

This seems about as believable as getting fired for writing Harry Potter smut.

It's not that insane; for example, I could get serious jail time for RWBY or Harry Potter smut. Under Canadian law, drawing pictures or writing a story that describes underage characters involved in smut is legally manufacturing child pornography. It explicitly doesn't matter if the content is real or reflective of reality, just implying a character is underage is enough and is not a mitigating factor. That's also, incidentally, a huge reason why this forum cracks down on sexual themes involving underage characters; if it didn't, then Squishy could personally be held liable for distributing child pornography for allowing that content to be hosted on the forum.

Does this ever come up legally anywhere? No, because the police have much more significant targets to chase down; people who are actively abusing or offending against children. Resources are limited and there's so much more harm done with real child pornograhpy that it would be an egregious abuse of police resources to go after something where no child was harmed. They could; however, at any time and the prosecutor could take someone to court and get a conviction.

Because someone, please, think of the poor fictional children!

I was being sarcastic. You can't really classify writing cheesy, self-indulgent fanfiction on the internet "distributing child pornography", especially with the Fair Use gray zone fanfiction always tends to inhabit.
And besides, I was trying to make reference to Msscribe.

I'm pretty sure you actually could, in some jurisdictions.

Not the US, maybe, but internationally? Oh yes.

(In the US, you'd just be charged with Copyright Infringement, because technically, the 'gray zone' isn't about legality, it's about enforceability)

But do you think anyone's actually going to bother with stuff like that beyond just giving you prudish looks? To the extent that people will fire you from a completely unrelated day job?

Seems neat, don't know about the game-play aspect, but as an idea it is neat and I have enjoyed some of the character exchanges I have seen.

So, thoughts on RWBY's inclusion in Cross Tag Battle? Also, is Ruby top tier in the game?
Definitely makes me want to buy the game. Especially since Cross Tag is apparently designed from the ground up to be noob friendly. Which is nice since normally its hopelessly confusing to play fighting games if you aren't intimately familiar with the game mechanics and meta-game. It would be nice to actually be able to pull off a ultimate for once.

The game is pretty fun so far, and having the RWBY characters is nice (and I am getting the feeling that we will be getting a RWBY-only game in the future), but personally the UNIEL cast probably is more interesting to me since I am more attached to Melty. It's a bit too early to say if Ruby is top tier, but so far a lot of people are using her since she is easy to use and consider her pretty great overall. Still since it's a tag game, a single character being good is not enough ya know. I do appreciate that the game has a decent tutorial this time, after DBFZ lacked one, so I guess this game works as a decent intro into fighting games.

I can't speak to her strength, but I can't be bothered to play her. She has a line for nearly every action and it's more than a little obnoxious with a fast paced fighter like Blazblue. Weiss is thankfully a little less of a chatterbox so playing her isn't so bad.

Just letting you know, this is very much not true. It's another reason why many sites don't allow underage sex in their fics - there are legal ramifications that could hit them for doing so. Is it likely to happen? Maybe it is, maybe it isn't, but the point is that it is possible.
