RWBY Thread III: Time To Say Goodbye

Stop: So gotta few things that need to be said real quick.
so gotta few things that need to be said real quick.
We get a lot of reports from this thread. A lot of it is just a series of people yelling at each other over arguments that have been rehashed hundreds of times since the end of the recent Volume. And I get that the last Volume - and RWBY in general, really - has some controversial moments that people will want to discuss, argue about, debate, etc.

That's fine. We're not going to stop people from doing that, because that's literally what the point of the thread is. However, there's just a point where it gets to be a bit too much, and arguments about whether or not Ironwood was morally justified in his actions in the recent Volume, or if RWBY and her team were in the right for withholding information from Ironwood out of distrust, or whatever flavor of argument of the day descend into insulting other posters, expressing a demeaning attitude towards other's opinions, and just being overall unpleasant. That tends to happen a lot in this thread. We want it to stop happening in this thread.

So! As of now the thread is in a higher state of moderation. What that means is that any future infractions will result in a weeklong boot from the thread, and repeated offenders will likely be permanently removed. So please, everyone endeavor to actually respect the other's arguments, and even if you strongly disagree with them please stay civil and mindful when it comes to responding to others.

In addition, users should refrain from talking about off-site users in the thread. Bear in mind that this does not mean that you cannot continue to post tumblr posts, for example, that add onto the discussion in the thread, with the caveat that it's related to RWBY of course. But any objections to offsite users in the thread should be handled via PM, or they'll be treated as thread violations and infracted as such.

I feel that most people don't understand that when you love something you want to see it succeed. So when that something fucks up you can't help but point it out in the vain hope that maybe, just maybe, it'll learn from the mistake and get better.

God I hope it gets better.

That is all true. Also some of us just like to watch the world burn pick apart things I love. I have given someone money to help fund them picking apart shows I love. If I like a show chances are I will like babbling about what it did wrong. Sure it is bad to talk about only the negative but it is boring for me to only talk about the positive. Shows are the sum total of their good and bad qualities. After all sometimes those bad qualities can even be endearing flaws in a good show even if they would be annoying in a lesser show.

Often it's the things we love that we are the most critical about. If RWBY didn't have anything good in it, folks wouldn't be on a 350+ page thread being critical about it, folks would have just stopped caring.

There is a fundamental human desire for the good to be perfect. That is why we are so critical of imperfections in the things we like.

Just to get it off my chest, I would love a character to be based off of Pecos Bill. If you never heard of him, he's American folklore hero in the same vein as Paul Bunyan and Johnny Appleseed. Among his feats include being raised by coyotes, using a pet rattlesnake for a lasso, using said lasso to wrangle a tornado, and snacking on dynamite.

Ugh, Raven didn't give us anything incriminating on Ozpin. She was just beating around the bush, planting doubts in Yang and Weiss. We already know of Salem, of Ozpin handling things for lifetimes, of the Maidens' magic and those Relics. The only new thing we got was that the bird forms have a connection to Ozpin.
More than anything, what Raven told us was everything we needed to know about Raven. It was also everything YANG needed to hear.

Basically, that Raven is an asshole. She went to Beacon to learn how to kill the people who would stop her from killing people, and she abandoned her team rather than join the fight against Salem. She'd rather leave the protection of humanity up to someone else, just as she would rather leave the business of growing food up to someone else.

Raven's not interested in giving anyone anything that she can take for free.

Also how did they manage to get through that whole conversation without Summer coming up once?!
Raven might blame herself for Summer's death. She and Yang were definitely both thinking about Summer, but neither one wanted to touch that nerve, because neither one of them had yet given up on the other.

Perhaps the reality of Ozpins connection to Qrow and Raven is quite different then what we expected. Perhaps Qrow and Raven were originally birds who Ozpin turned into humans for whatever reason. Would explain Qrows lack of Knowledge when it comes to cloths during his school years.
It wouldn't explain how they were bandits from Mistral BEFORE going to Beacon, though.

One thing Raven seemed intent on emphasizing was Yang questioning everyone and everything, even her, so that might come up again later, especially as she referenced finding things out by herself.

Well, someone's still a heartless bitch, who here thinks Raven wants to join Salem?

[FIRST] Volume 5, Chapter 7: Rest and Resolutions
Volume 5, Chapter 7: Rest and Resolutions is up for FIRST members.

lots of good old fashioned funny business, parted about 7 minutes in by Oz coming clean about Qrow and Raven.

Oh, and he is the Wizard from the Tale of Four Maidens.

Cinder and Co. are at Raven's camp!!! SHOWDOOOOOOOOOWN

probably!

Some funny scenes,

though I'm kind of shocked how casually she reattached her arm. Given that a couple episodes ago she was shaking after just using it to punch someone.

Exposition was alright but hey we established stuff! Yay competence.

Nah.

If Raven wanted to join Salem, she'd already have done so. She's got a maiden, after all, which is great collateral to bargain with... Though I'm not sure what motivation anyone would have to join up with the eldritch horror that wants to murder their entire species, except maybe 'don't murder me personally' or something like that.
