RWBY Thread III: Time To Say Goodbye

Stop: So gotta few things that need to be said real quick.
so gotta few things that need to be said real quick.
We get a lot of reports from this thread. A lot of it is just a series of people yelling at each other over arguments that have been rehashed hundreds of times since the end of the recent Volume. And I get that the last Volume - and RWBY in general, really - has some controversial moments that people will want to discuss, argue about, debate, etc.

That's fine. We're not going to stop people from doing that, because that's literally what the point of the thread is. However, there's just a point where it gets to be a bit too much, and arguments about whether or not Ironwood was morally justified in his actions in the recent Volume, or if RWBY and her team were in the right for withholding information from Ironwood out of distrust, or whatever flavor of argument of the day descend into insulting other posters, expressing a demeaning attitude towards other's opinions, and just being overall unpleasant. That tends to happen a lot in this thread. We want it to stop happening in this thread.

So! As of now the thread is in a higher state of moderation. What that means is that any future infractions will result in a weeklong boot from the thread, and repeated offenders will likely be permanently removed. So please, everyone endeavor to actually respect the other's arguments, and even if you strongly disagree with them please stay civil and mindful when it comes to responding to others.

In addition, users should refrain from talking about off-site users in the thread. Bear in mind that this does not mean that you cannot continue to post tumblr posts, for example, that add onto the discussion in the thread, with the caveat that it's related to RWBY of course. But any objections to offsite users in the thread should be handled via PM, or they'll be treated as thread violations and infracted as such.

    1. >he lied
      1. Yeah, never good enough to be liar. And you are the fucking Damsel here. You have what I believe to be the best girl crowning for you and you're going after miss all high and mighty in Weiss.
        1. You deserve this ya pathetic wuss.
  14. Why does Ozpin give the leader-ship role to random people. Doesn't he do like, additional tests for psych evals? Have individual people interview them?? Ruby is inexperienced, and Jaune, the more I talk about him the more I will rant.
    1. And this considering the fact I was okay with Shinji as the main protag considering the issues and hell he went through.
  15. Why do teachers give these assignments in forests filled with dangerous creatures. If they want to train these guys up, simulations or controleld environments are the best. This faculty is the worst.
  16. >Saves the bully
    1. Knew it. /sigh
  17. This series is gonna shove Jaune in our faces aren't they

You know, although I've shit on Miles and Kerry in the past, I do feel some sympathy for them. Apparently one of the shows Monty sat them down to watch was fucking Sword Art Online. You watch shitty anime, you acquire shitty taste. And proof that Monty wasn't perfect, because to show off what he wanted RWBY to be he chose Sword Art Online.
....

Well..

I guess some people have questionable tastes.

I'm not saying I hate faunus or anything, I just think Vale was better when they didn't have the right to make eye contact with us normal folk.

Basically, Pyrhha is a teenage celebrity, and this has made it hard for her to have friends who aren't just hanging around because she's famous, something that makes her sad. But Jaune didn't recognise her, and treated her as just a regular person. It's very refreshing for her.

I mean, I don't actually like Jaune, but it makes sense on Pyrrha's end.

Jaune isn't going away, but if you've gotten this far then know that the Jaunedice arc is the worst chapter. Even most of Jaune's fans don't defend it. (Now imagine how frustrating it was back when Volume 1 first aired, when the show advanced at the rate of a single 5-10 minute episode per week.)

I'm just saying, according to some scientists I know the frontal lobe of the typical faunus is relatively undeveloped.

Dude, no. Not funny. Maybe it's just because I'm currently studying the Emmett Till case, but that is profoundly unfunny to me.

Why does everyone seem to forget that penny had a soul?

And why would having her body dismembered necessarily compromise her soul?

Yang and Ironwood aren't less of alive for losing limbs. And Amber was still in possession of her soul while in a technologically induced coma.

Penny is certainly a person, but she's also a machine, and there's no reason to think dismembering her would actually kill her rather than simply render her 'unconscious' or put her into some sort of protective standby state.

Now if whatever mechanism contains her consciousness was damaged or destroyed I'd be with you. But I'm willing to bet wherever her actual 'soul' is situated is the most heavily reinforced part of her body.

Well, that killed the mood. Not that it's wrong for you to feel that way, but I'm not sure Insufficient Dakka merited the reprimand, either.

A more interesting question is whether the soul can be backed up, or copied and duplicated. We know it can be transferred, at least. It's usually assumed that the soul is unique, but there's not necessarily any reason it has to be so.

Nope. Although in that bet the money is on Penny. Because, y'know, robot.

Same soul jar, new chassis.
Penny motions to her old design model "old and busted" then to herself "New hotness."

Samantha Ireland (Nora's VA, who is basically Nora but toned down enough to be a real person judging from the commentary) also didn't know about the Maiden plotline, and when she was watching Volume 3 (the commentary was recorded around the time Chapter 10 or 11 was released, IIRC) she says she initially skipped the episode that explained it purely by accident and without realizing it, so that she was completely lost when the next episode rolled around.
Oucch, haha, that sounds amusing though.

Ok some theorizing: what kind of event could have made WF to a terrorist organization from a nonviolent one? Salem messing about using Hazel to pressure Sienna (sp?) KHAN?

Blake, imo/iirc (?), stayed after it got violent after seeing WF's new methods 'work', but is progressively less inclined until she left in the Black Trailer.

Well it would allow them to give her an even more intense character redesign than anyone else.
Penny: Rocket punch!
Weiss: Wow really?
Ruby: That is so cool!

I imagine it may have just been frustration, the Faunus were promised equal rights after fighting a war to avoid forceful deportation, but they still get denied service from shops and there's implicit issues with labour laws, so some leaders basically going" Look violence worked last time and asking nicely isn't" wouldn't surprise me, Though I could see some big event, like a collapsed mine, or a dead kid being used as a spark.

They thought they could do that, they didn't know what would actually happen when they tried.

This is why I think it would have made more sense to link Penny's development to the soul/maiden transfer tech. She was a prototype soul jar. Proof of concept.
